Depositional Systems Of The Sells And Cecil Sandstones, Atoka Formation (Pennsylvanian), Eastern Crawford And Western Franklin Counties, Arkansas, Chris A. Cardneaux Jan 1978

Depositional Systems Of The Sells And Cecil Sandstones, Atoka Formation (Pennsylvanian), Eastern Crawford And Western Franklin Counties, Arkansas, Chris A. Cardneaux

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

The Cecil and Sells sandstones of the Atoka Formation (Pennsylvanian) were studied in the subsurface of eastern Crawford and western Franklin Counties. Sand of the Cecil sandstone was delivered to a high destructive, wave dominated delta southeast of Fort Smith and reworked laterally by longshore currents to form coastal barrier sands to the east. The Sells sandstone unit accumulated as a distributary channel system that bifurcates to the southeast and southwest. The interdistributary areas are characterized by immature sands interbedded with shales. These immature sands were deposited by crevasse splays and reworking of the distributary mouth bars by marine processes …

Sedimentology Of The Hannibal Formation In Northeastern Missouri And Western Illinois, Michael Harry Deming Jan 1978

Sedimentology Of The Hannibal Formation In Northeastern Missouri And Western Illinois, Michael Harry Deming

Masters Theses

"The Hannibal Formation (Kinderhookian) occurring in northeastern Missouri and western Illinois is a fine-grained, terrigenous, sedimentary unit which can be divided into an upper and a lower portion, based on lithology. The upper portion consists of alternating coarse and argillaceous, fine siltstone units, while the lower portion consists of a silty mudstone with an occasional thin siltstone unit. At the extreme western margin of the formation, near where the Hannibal almost pinches out, the formation consists entirely of a silty claystone. Extending southward along the study area, the coarse siltstone units of the upper Hannibal become thinner, and eventually pinch …

Landsat Image Analysis Of Linears And Lineaments In The Tri-State District, Missouri-Oklahoma-Kansas, Solomon Hartley Toweh

Masters Theses

"Lineations within the Tri-State mining district are classified as megalineaments, lineaments and linears, based on length. One megalineament, 120 lineaments and 205 linears are identified on the LANDSAT imagery. In order of importance a dominant northeast set, northwest set, north-south set and east-west set are recognized. These range from 0.8 miles (1.3 km) to 68 miles (109.4 km) in length.

Major lineation trends spatially relate with trends of mined areas In the Picher field both northeast and northwest lineations generally parallel mined areas. In the Galena field ore and lineations trend northeast while in the Joplin and Duenweg-Webb City-Oronogo field …

Bulletin 4048: Salt Land And What To Do About It, C V. Malcolm

Bulletins 4000 -

Since the development of land for agriculture in Western Australia more than 1 600 square kilometres of land has become too saline for normal crops and pasture, and the area is increasing. Much of this land was previously the most fertile crop land and on some farms salinity constitutes a major problem.

The purpose of this booklet is to impart an understanding of the nature and cause of saltland in Western Australia. The methods of treatment are explained in the light of this understanding. The material in the booklet is based on a detailed review 'Soil salinity in South Western …

Stratigraphy Of The Lower Tertiary And Upper Cretaceous (?) Continental Strata In The Canyon Range, Juab County, Utah, James M. Stolle Jan 1978

Stratigraphy Of The Lower Tertiary And Upper Cretaceous (?) Continental Strata In The Canyon Range, Juab County, Utah, James M. Stolle

Theses and Dissertations

The Canyon Range Formation (informal new name), formerly mapped as the Indianola Group within the Canyon Range, is divisible into two distinct, mappable units, A and B. Unit A is nearly all conglomerate strata, and conglomerate texture and sedimentary structures suggest an alluvial fan depositional environment. Precambrian and basal Cambrian quartzite clasts represent the erosional debris from the allochthonous Canyon Range thrust. Unit B is composed of interbedded fluvial sandstone and conglomerates with lacustrine limestones, commonly micritic and/or oncolitic. Conglomerate clasts indicate a Paleozoic carbonate provenance. Unit A, previously mapped as the Indianola, underlies Unit B and correlates with the …

Contribution À L'Étude Des Cavités Karstiques Du Djurdjura (Algérie). Description Morpho-Hydrogéologique Et Cadre Évolutif, Yves Quinif

International Journal of Speleology

In North-Africa, the karst of Djurdjura Mountains is important because it shows high-alpine characters. In others papers, we have studied shallow morphology and speleological explorations. Here, we describe the caves: morphology, qualitative hydrology and fillings. These cavities are replaced in their morpho-structural context. We make distinctions between kinds of cavities. Gulfs and resurgences characterize high-alpine karst which is actual. Other caves that have their opening at the middle of slopes are dry, disconnected of actual morphological context. They belong to past karstification phases. From the synthesis of those elements, we show that it is possible to use karstic data in …

The Paleontology And Biostratigraphy Of The Lower Ordovician Gasconade Formation Of Missouri, Bruce L. Stinchcomb Jan 1978

The Paleontology And Biostratigraphy Of The Lower Ordovician Gasconade Formation Of Missouri, Bruce L. Stinchcomb

Doctoral Dissertations

"The biostratigraphy, paleoecology and paleontology of the Lower Ordovician Gasconade Formation in Missouri is reinvestigated in an attempt to solve problems that have arisen since the classic earlier studies by Ulrich, Bridge and others. Twelve faunal zones are established, many based on primitive mollusks which dominate the formation. The oldest of these, in the Van Buren Member, is the Hypseloaonus Zone. This is followed by a zone characterized by the primitive cephalopod Dakeoaeras then a zone dominated by the gastropod Sinuopea. These zones are succeeded by the Euomphalopsis, Matthevia and Ozarkina Zones which lie stratigraphically below the Cryptozoon Zone, …

A Contribution To The Study Of The Genus Porrhomma (Araneae: Linyphiidae). Notes On A Population Of P. Egeria (Simon) And Other Cavernicolous Species, J. D. Bourne

International Journal of Speleology

A morphological and biometrical study of a population of Porrhomma egeria (Simon) has allowed to determine that P. moravicum (Miller and Kratochvil) and P. obambulatum (Kritscher) belong to the same species and should thus be considered synonymous. The importance of biometric studies for the study of this Genus is emphasised.

International Journal of Speleology

Microcharon arganoi, a new Microparasellid from subterranean waters of Southern Italy is described. For the shape and ornamentation of pleopod II of females and for the morphology of pleopod II of males, the new species is clearly related to the phyletic line which includes all the Western and French species of the genus. However, from all these species and from all the other ones M. arganoi differs by the ornamentation of the antennae, maxillipeds and pereiopeds, by the shape and ornamentation of pleopods I and II of males and II of females. and by ratio endopod/exopod of pleopod III. …

Humidity Responses And The Role Of Hamann's Organ Of Cavernicolous Bathysciinae (Coleoptera Catopidae), Marco Lucarelli, Valerio Sbordoni

International Journal of Speleology

The humidity responses of Bathysciola derosasi and Leptodirus hohenwarti, two species of troglobitic Bathysciinae showing different degrees of adaptation to cave environment, have been studied. Intact and antennectomised subjects were tested using choice-chambers with various combinations of relative humidity alternatives (i.e. 20-100%, 50-100%, 90-100%, 50-90% and, as controls, 100-100%) to investigate the role played by the sense organs situated on the 7th, 9th and 10th antenna segments. The results show that intact-antenna subjects of both species are very sensitive to humidity gradients and that their intensity of reaction varies according to the intensity of stimulus, as previously reported by …
