Investigation And Development Of Ground Water Of Chalone Creek, (Pinnacles National Monument, California), Donald Lee Brown

Masters Theses

"The Pinnacles National Monument is located in San Benito and Monterey Counties about 130 highway miles south of San Francisco, California. Because of unusual patterns in volcanic rocks, the Monument was set aside as a recreation area on January 16, 1908, by President Theodore Roosevelt. It encompasses an area of approximately 12,818 acres.

Water quality and supply problems were experienced at the Monument in the few years prior to 1961. In 1961, a collection trench system was installed to alleviate the water supply condition. A horizontal trench system, 215 feet long and four feet below the dry season water table, …

The Geology Of The Eldorado Mining District, Clark County, Nevada, Spenst M. Hansen

Doctoral Dissertations

The rocks of the Eldorado mining district, Clark County, Nevada, are of Precambrian, Tertiary and Quaternary age. Precambrian rocks include a heterogeneous series of gneisses and schists, younger garnetiferous granite gneiss and a youngest group of pegmatites. Paleozoic and Mesozoic rocks present in surrounding areas are absent in the district and Tertiary volcanics lie directly on the Pre- cambrian basement. Tertiary rocks consist of middle to late Tertiary flows and pyroclastic beds of andesite, basalt and rhyolite. These are assigned to three volcanic formations: the Patsy Mine volcanics; the Golden Door volcanics; and the Mount Davis volcanics. The Patsy Mine …

Mississippian Bioherms Of Southwestern Missouri And Northwestern Arkansas, Arthur R. Troell Jr. Jan 1960

Mississippian Bioherms Of Southwestern Missouri And Northwestern Arkansas, Arthur R. Troell Jr.

Masters Theses

"Lenticular bodies of massive limestone, flanked by thin crinoidal beds, crop out in southwestern Missouri and northwestern Arkansas. They are within the St. Joe limestone of the Lower Mississippian.

Strata underlying these bodies typically are down-warped, those on the flanks lapping against, finally passing completely over the limestone core. Dips away from the “reef” are commonly around 5 degrees, but reach as much as 30 degrees. Conglomeratic detritus, originating from the core, occurs in flanking beds at their contact with it.

Thin sections of these masses show no more than 15 per cent of the limestone to consist of fossil …

Geologic And Ground-Water Reconnaissance Of The Loup River Drainage Basin Nebraska, R. T. Sniegocki, R. H. Langford Jan 1959

Geologic And Ground-Water Reconnaissance Of The Loup River Drainage Basin Nebraska, R. T. Sniegocki, R. H. Langford

United States Geological Survey: Publications

The Loup River and its tributaries drain an area of about 15,230 square miles in central Nebraska. The upper three-fifths of the drainage basin is in the Sand Hills region of Nebraska, and the lower two-fifths is in the loess plains and hills region. An eastward-thinning wedge of semiconsolidated and unconsolidated deposits of Tertiary and Quaternary age underlies the surficial dune sand and loess. These deposits, which are recharged by infiltrating precipitation, contain a tremendous volume of water at least 400 million acre-feet and annually discharge about 1.7 million acre-feet into streams. Although wells supply nearly all the water used …

Industrial Wastes, Charles E. Renn Mar 1955

Industrial Wastes, Charles E. Renn

United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications

This paper presents a summary of experiences with a variety of cyanogenic wastes. The work has attempted to evaluate the interaction of waste bearing waters and the environment in terms of waste disposal design requirements. In this, the approach is somewhat more critical than that commonly taken by fisheries biologists, conservationists, and others who have been concerned with the "preventive" aspects of waste disposal.

The first phases of the work were designed to discover the tolerable limits of certain waste components to fresh water fish. This was undertaken in 1950; in the interval the composition of the wastes has been …

Geochemical Prospecting Applied To The Illinois-Kentucky Fluorspar Area, Matthew Peter Nackowski

Doctoral Dissertations

"This study was completed to determine whether geochemical methods of prospecting could be applied to the search for fluorspar deposits in the Illinois-Kentucky fluorspar district.

During the course of the study, aspects of the geochemical cycle of fluorine under the climatic environment encountered were noted in the zone of weathering.

The Illinois-Kentucky fluorspar district supplies a large portion of the fluorite consumed in the United States. The producing deposits are of two geologic types. The vein deposits occur as nearly vertical tabular lenses or pods which occupy fractures. These deposits may reach the bedrock surface, but in any case, the …

A Study Of Some Pre-Cambrian Schists From Yankee Jim Canyon, Park County, Montana, Charles K. Presley

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

One of the most highly deformed metamorphic rock series in Montana is exposed fifteen miles north of Yellowstone Park, Wyoming in the great gorge known as Yankee Jim Canyon, which was formed by Yellowstone River at that point. These metamorphics are Pre-Cambrian in age, and are almost certainly sedimentary in origin, although the involved and intricate folding which they have undergone has long since obliterated any superficial traces of that origin.
