During the fall of 2023, Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) researchers conducted a statewide study to establish a baseline for public perceptions related to the awareness, understanding, and attitudes about challenges that Utah women and girls face. In early 2024, we published 20 short research summaries1 that shared the results of this comprehensive study (see Nos. 9–28). Next, in the fall of 2024, we administered this survey, with slight changes, around the state of Utah for the second time. Six comprehensive research white papers were then published on the results (see Nos. 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, and …

The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
This paper introduces Integral Global Attunement (IGA) as a transformative paradigm in global leadership, emerging in response to the unprecedented shifts catalyzed by theCOVID-19 pandemic. Rooted in the fusion of psychological insight, intercultural consciousness, and ethical stewardship, IGA proposes a fifth wave of leadership—one that transcends transactional strategies to embrace identity, ethics, and relational interconnectedness as central pillars of influence. The writing argues that the current global crises reflect not merely external disruption but an inner dissonance within humanity, calling for a deeper, multi-aware model of leadership. Through the triadic lens of identity (e.g., multicultural integration, visionary consciousness), ethics (e.g., …
A Deluge Of Sea Images: Maritime Art And Temporal Crisis, Jonathan Stafford
A Deluge Of Sea Images: Maritime Art And Temporal Crisis, Jonathan Stafford
Artl@s Bulletin
Abstract: We are today inundated with images of the sea, with maritime representations of global trade, the refugee crisis, and climate collapse featuring prominently in both journalistic and artistic image worlds alike. These seascapes seem to be possessed of a certain timeliness, speaking to the idiosyncratically temporal nature of our contemporary crisis. This article seeks to historicise the contemporary deluge of maritime imagery, drawing out its connections with the proliferation of the sea image in earlier representational regimes.

Roaming Pixels: Clipping The Operative Close-Up, Vanessa Gravenor
Artl@s Bulletin
Abstract: This essay examines the disseminated war image as it takes off at the speed of light. It seeks to challenge the legacy of the post-structuralist spectator who watches war by complicating this figure with post-colonial perspectives where the distanced, global war dissemination collapses into the intimate, subjective gaze. Focusing on artist–theorist perspectives, it traces strategies for working with the digital broadcast of war, specifically from the 2000s and 2010s, and artists who peer into uncertain pixels and the cruelty of the close-up.

Brute Force Branding: Variations & Repetitions Of The Almighty Dollar Banknote, Rui-Long Monico
Artl@s Bulletin
Abstract: This paper examines the U.S. dollar as a global brand and mythic icon, revealing how its stable aesthetic asserts dominance and infiltrates daily life. Through visual analysis and global comparison, it shows how banknotes are battlegrounds where art, identity, and geopolitics collide—currency as a weapon of soft power and cultural hegemony. The dollar’s visual inertia—ritualized, repeated, reappropriated—cements its supremacy as a symbolic force, where repetition enforces authority and variation sparks both resistance and conformity. Banknotes emerge as tools of statecraft and vessels of collective memory, as reflected in the author’s bespoke creation accompanying this study.

Image Circulations And Economic Imagination: Framing The Peruvian And Chilean Peripheries At The End Of The 19th Century, Alexandre Puche
Artl@s Bulletin
Abstract: This study explores two cases of photographic circulation between Peru, Chile and France in the late nineteenth century to show how images contributed to the requalification of the region within global commercial geography. It also proposes a historical methodology that considers visual repetition as a traceable product of transnational circulation. This approach sheds light on both certain mechanisms behind Atlantic propaganda regarding South America’s economic potential and the structuring role such circulations played in shaping regional representations.

What Makes Art Images Travel So Well? Repetition, Variation, And The Global Life Of Images, Béatrice Joyeux-Prunel
What Makes Art Images Travel So Well? Repetition, Variation, And The Global Life Of Images, Béatrice Joyeux-Prunel
Artl@s Bulletin
What do we actually know about how images become global? This article takes stock of current approaches to studying their worldwide circulation. Drawing on findings from the Visual Contagions project—which maps 15 million illustrations across 18,000 periodicals in more than 50 countries—we now see that in the age of print, only a small fraction of images traveled widely, with art reproductions proving to be the most mobile. The central question, then, is whether this broader circulation of art images is linked to their formal power. When examined from multiple perspectives, the answer cannot be a simple yes. Visual circulation also …

Crystal Sets And Listening-In: Radio In Ireland Before 2rn, Stephanie Rains
Crystal Sets And Listening-In: Radio In Ireland Before 2rn, Stephanie Rains
Irish Communication Review
When 2RN began broadcasting from its studios on Henry Street in Dublin on 1 January 1926, it became the first radio station in the Free State. However, it was very far from being the start of radio on the island of Ireland, as there was already a community of amateur operators and engineers conducting technical experiments. This article explores the radio landscape in Ireland which 2RN joined and transformed. The early enthusiasts often not very concerned with programming or with most of radio’s possibilities as a form of entertainment, but did have a very international perspective on the medium’s possibilities. …

Cancer Literacy And Social Determinants Of Health: An Epidemiological Analysis Of Trust, Digital Engagement, And Healthcare Utilization In Cancer Information Seeking, Kimberly Leeann Hazel
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The rise of online health information has increased access to cancer resources but also amplified misinformation, creating trust gaps that threaten prevention, treatment, and health equity. This study examined how trust in cancer information sources, online information-seeking, and healthcare perceptions relate among U.S. adults. Guided by the health information seeking behavior, the socioecological model, and the structural influence model of health communication, data from the 2022 Health Information National Trends Survey (N = 6,197) were analyzed with logistic regression, mediation, and moderation modeling, controlling for demographics. Trust in government agencies predicted greater cancer information seeking (odds ratio [OR] = 1.94, …

Rethinking Geoengineering Governance Utilizing The Playing God Argument: Considerations Of Knowledge, Control, And Benevolence, Julian Dreiman, Brian Patrick Green
Staff Publications and Research
Because greenhouse gas emissions continue to grow, it is increasingly challenging to limit global warming to 1.5 or 2.0 degrees Celsius. As such, there is a growing debate on whether or not to deploy geoengineering to reduce warming. Geoengineering is controversial, and many arguments have been raised against it, including the “playing God” critique. When understood through the philosopher Moti Mizrahi’s reinterpretation, the playing God critique does not eliminate the possibility of using geoengineering, but rather informs how its governance can be improved. We use Mizrahi’s interpretation of the playing God critique to claim that the existing governance literature lacks …

Esg Performance In The Regulatory Transformation Era: A Systematic Thematic Review (2020–2024), Jiyeon Kim Ph.D., Wooyoung Yang
Faculty Publications
Introduction:
The 2020-2024 period represents a regulatory transformation era in ESG research, marked by mandatory disclosure frameworks (CSRD/ESRS, SEC climate rules, ISSB standards) replacing voluntary approaches. This creates a natural experiment for examining ESG-performance relationships under compulsory reporting. Despite extensive voluntary-period literature, limited research addresses how mandatory frameworks alter these relationships during regulatory transformation.
Methods:
We conducted a systematic thematic review following PRISMA 2020 guidelines (INPLASY202570105). Comprehensive database searches (2020–2024) yielded 4,441 records; after screening (Cohen's κ = 0.89), 17 high-quality studies met inclusion criteria (12 primary search, 5 ESRS-specific supplementary search). Thematic analysis identified ten interconnected themes grounded in …

Exploring Parenting Experiences: Fathers And Mothers Raising A Child With Autism, Simmi Santha
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The experiences of parenting a child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have been widely studied in Western contexts. Still, limited research has explored how sociocultural factors shape these experiences in India. This qualitative study aims to address this gap by exploring and comparing the lived experiences of mothers and fathers raising a child with ASD in Kerala, India. The purpose of this study was to investigate how gender roles, cultural expectations, and social structures impact parental adaptation, coping, and caregiving practices. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory and Crenshaw’s ideas of intersectionality provide the conceptual framework of this study. Using an interpretative …

System For Accessibility-Optimized Pedestrian Navigation Using A Granular Environmental Data Layer, Kshitij Suresh Gaikar, Pushkar Mittal
Defensive Publications Series
Conventional pedestrian navigation systems may not adequately account for the needs of users with mobility or sensory impairments, often suggesting routes with barriers such as stairs or poor pavement. This disclosure describes a system for accessibility-optimized navigation that can utilize a granular environmental data layer. This data layer can be populated from sources, for example, computer vision analysis, crowdsourcing, and municipal datasets, to annotate map data with accessibility attributes such as surface quality, ramp gradients, and tactile paving. A profile-based routing engine can use this data to compute paths by applying a dynamic cost function tailored to a user's specific …

Warming winter temperatures are driving range expansion of tropical, cold-sensitive mangroves into temperate ecosystems. Along the Atlantic coast of North America, the mangrove range limit is particularly sensitive to climate variability and historical data demonstrate that the mangrove-salt marsh ecotone on this coast has shifted recurrently during recent centuries. However, a comprehensive understanding of how this mangrove-salt marsh ecotone may shift in the future remains lacking. Here, we combine ensemble forecasting of mangrove distribution for the next century with high-resolution oceanographic dispersal simulations, phenological observations, and historical hurricane data to project future mangrove-salt marsh dynamics at the rapidly changing range …

Private Money: Stablecoins, Bitcoin, And The Genius Act, Henry H. Perritt Jr.
UC Law Science and Technology Journal
Cryptocurrency has been legalized in the United States. The 2025 GENIUS Act provides a sensible regulatory framework for cryptocurrency as a medium of exchange while avoiding predicted monetary chaos. The Act correctly distinguishes between volatile fiat cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, which are unsuitable as payment mechanisms, and stablecoins backed by traditional currencies and reserves.
Historical analysis spanning American monetary systems from the “free banking era” before 1860 through modern digital payments demonstrates that private money has long coexisted with government currency but requires appropriate regulation to prevent bank runs, fraud, and monetary instability. The GENIUS Act addresses key cryptocurrency risks—technological failures, …

Accurate and timely monitoring of crop water stress is essential for efficient agricultural water management, ultimately maintaining and improving crop productivity. While Landsat has been used for this purpose, its temporal resolution hampers timely detection of crop water stress. The recently released Harmonized Landsat and Sentinel-2 Version 2.0 dataset, which enables a higher-frequency time series of satellite observations (2–3 days, 30 m), offers a promising solution to this challenge. However, its potential for crop stress monitoring remained unexplored. In this study, we utilized 923 HLS satellite tiles to assess crop water stress across the contiguous United States (CONUS). Crop water …
Exploring The Impact Of Antidiscrimination Laws On Child-Welfare Workers Working With Lgbtq Foster Youth, Heather Kesterson
Exploring The Impact Of Antidiscrimination Laws On Child-Welfare Workers Working With Lgbtq Foster Youth, Heather Kesterson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) youth are overrepresented in the foster care system and have unique needs compared to their peers. In the state of Virginia, there is an antidiscrimination policy that protects LGBTQ foster youth; however, it is unclear how this impacts child welfare workers. Past literature has explored the needs of LGBTQ youth, the experiences of foster parents, and policy implications, but not the impact of antidiscrimination laws on child welfare workers. The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to explore the understanding of child welfare workers’ knowledge, integration, training, and implications of Virginia’s antidiscrimination …

Optimal Placement Of Electric Vehicle Chargers: A Mixed-Integer Linear Programming Model, Joubin Zahiri Khameneh, Emmanuel Fagbenle
Faculty Publications
Electric vehicle adoption is growing, but New Hampshire lags in public charging infrastructure, especially in rural areas. This gap increases range anxiety and economic inefficiencies. In this study, we developed a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model to optimally locate new electric vehicle chargers statewide, maximizing coverage and equity under budget constraints. The model includes geographic coverage requirements, population-weighted equity, capacity limits, and a $28 million budget. Moreover, the model recommends 855 Level 2 chargers and 149 Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFCs) across 247 ZIP Codes, nearly doubling public charging capacity and achieving 98.8% coverage within defined service radii. The plan …
The Illusion Of Sex-Ed As Panacea: Addressing Adolescent Sexual And Reproductive Health Disparities In Minnesota, Bernadette E. Whitely
The Illusion Of Sex-Ed As Panacea: Addressing Adolescent Sexual And Reproductive Health Disparities In Minnesota, Bernadette E. Whitely
Tapestries: Interwoven voices of local and global identities
Although many praise Minnesota for its strong healthcare system, the state still faces significant disparities in access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and comprehensive sexuality education (CSE). These disparities in access are compounded by geographic location, socioeconomic status (SES), and race, with barriers across transportation, cost, and clinic availability further complicating these issues. Based on this understanding, this paper examines adolescent SRH disparities between the Twin Cities metropolitan area and northern rural regions in Minnesota, focusing specifically on unintended adolescent pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Building on this foundation, I apply Dr. Vanessa Voller’s “CSE-as-panacea” framework, which …

Awkward Voices: How Storytelling Challenges Preconceived Notions To Lessen Affective Polarization In American Politics, Charlie A. Gee
Tapestries: Interwoven voices of local and global identities
The United States is no stranger to violence, whether it be in the past or the present, structural or physical. In recent years, however, tensions within the country have increased, particularly between political parties. Operating under the philosophy that a better world cannot be built upon the mistakes of the past, and that peace is a radical act, it is necessary to urgently address this polarization in order to prevent further violence. This article explores the question of whether storytelling between conflicting groups is a method to address these issues.
This paper is divided into two central parts. The first …

Reviving Novorossiya: Russia’S Invasion Of Ukraine Under International Law
Washington International Law Journal
Abstract: For nearly three years, the Eastern European nation of Ukraine has been entangled in a war it did not instigate, did not desire, but was forced into by its more powerful neighbor, Russia. Since the onset of the war, Russia has faced accusations of widespread atrocities, including severe violations of human rights, international humanitarian law, and breaches of other international norms. Following the inauguration of United States (US) President Donald Trump, there has been a renewed effort to bring both parties to the negotiating table and end the conflict. With the ongoing negotiations, there is no better time to …

The West And The Rest: Misplaced Blame Of Underdevelopment, Rana R. Abadeer
Theses and Dissertations
This paper will discuss the link between the history of colonialism and the genesis and evolution of International Law and in turn the role played by this relationship to maintain it, directly or indirectly, to our current day. The blame of underdevelopment is often misplaced, and its responsibility falls on the Global South for their inability to follow the same momentum of development as the Global North. Nevertheless, the aim of this paper is to prove that this blame of underdevelopment given its original reasons should be placed elsewhere. With that, the discussion of where the blame should be is …

Navigating Kingship: Sea Power And Sovereignty In Gower's Confessio Amantis, Elizabeth D. Brissey
Accessus
This article examines John Gower’s Apollonius of Tyre in the Confessio Amantis through the lens of the blue humanities, giving special attention to the ways in which the tale treats the sovereign’s maritime domain as integral to the terrestrial. Apollonius depicts sovereignty over aquapelagic space, with the sea serving both as a channel of exchange and as a figurative medium through which sovereignty is negotiated. The crucial issue that aligns the Apollonius tale with the concept of English sovereignty lies in its vision of thalassocratic space in which kingship is grounded in sea power and the sea as a connecting …
