Knowledge Mapping: A System For The Design And Construction Of Curricula, Linda M. Tipper

Masters Theses

This article presents a concise system for guiding content planners in the selection and analysis of content for any curriculum. The Knowledge Mapping system is compared to other curriculum development systems and is shown to meet some current needs which these systems have not met. An analysis of the Knowledge Map is provided and a demonstration of the impact that Knowledge Mapping can have on curriculum construction is presented. The demonstration illustrates that the use of this system can provide a tool for content planners which leads to a greater consistency between objectives and evaluation materials. The multiple uses of …

Heg83-181 Managing Conflict Successfully, Herbert G. Lingren

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This publication describes the differences between conflict and disagreement, and provides procedures for resolving them successfully.

How do you typically respond when you seriously disagree with someone? Do you...

1. get mad inside but keep quiet and give the other the "silent" treatment?

2. withdraw to a safe distance because you don't like to argue?

3. get angry, criticize, call names, use sarcasm or some other aggressive behavior?

4. give in; say "I guess you are right" with a big sigh, be submissive in order to avoid conflict.

5. deny or pretend that "everything is okay"--no conflict exists.

These are …

Concept And Scope Of Aerospace Education, Merridee L. Matson Jan 1983

Concept And Scope Of Aerospace Education, Merridee L. Matson

All Graduate Projects

A teacher's guide, answering frequently asked questions about aerospace education, was developed to enhance a teacher's ability to study and describe the concept and scope of aerospace education. The questions determined the components of an aerospace education taxonomy. A major category of components included history, concept, reasons, resources·, methods, and people. Five additional categories were suggested. Major aerospace education publications from 1903 to 1983 were reviewed. A selection of documents best describing the concept component were included in the project.

A Plan And Guide For The Implementation Of A Computer Curriculum At Southeast Fountain Elementary School, Robert Joseph Baker Jan 1983

A Plan And Guide For The Implementation Of A Computer Curriculum At Southeast Fountain Elementary School, Robert Joseph Baker

Masters Theses

This project was developed to provide an orderly plan for the introduction of microcomputers into the total curriculum. A computer curriculum was developed that became a vibrant part of the total experience at the elementary level. The uniqueness of an elementary curriculum has been the manner in which each subject area complemented the other. Science, for example, has not been taught as an independent content area. It has been taught as an extension of the reading program. Also computer instruction must be blended with the other disciplines.

It was the purpose of this study (1) to show a plan for …

An Elementary Art Curriculum For Private/Parochial Schools, Linda Porter Allison

All Graduate Projects

This project is written with the hopes of offering assistance to the private/parochial schools that either have not committed themselves to an art program or that are floundering within stagnating commitments or those that need stimulus to think about the benefits of an art curriculum. The author conducted a survey of similarly founded schools which led to suspicions that art curriculum of the private/parochial elementary schools in the State of Washington are …

Theories Of Piaget, Who Died This Month, Inspire Growing Band Of U.S. Professors, Robert L. Jacobson Nov 1982

Theories Of Piaget, Who Died This Month, Inspire Growing Band Of U.S. Professors, Robert L. Jacobson

ADAPT Program: Essays

The death of Jean Piaget this month at the age of 84 came at a time when the Swiss psychologist's theories of cognitive development were inspiring a small but growing number of innovative instructional programs in American colleges and universities. Most were started within the past few years and have yet to produce much hard evidence of their effectiveness. But participating faculty members say they are excited about what has been happening in their classrooms.

"Piagetian-based instruction," they say, offers many potential advantages over traditional methods: It facilitates communication, improves students' reasoning ability and academic achievement, boosts their self-confidence and …

Epilogue: The Man Who Made The World Safe For Epistemology

ADAPT Program: Essays

. . . I turned to Piaget. "Have you anything to say to the Nebraska populace?"

Piaget tipped his beret, toked briefly, and stepped to the waiting microphone. "My dear fellow-knowers: Let me just remind you once again that the pyramid of knowledge neither rests on its base of data nor hangs from its vertex of theory but rather floats in midair in an ever-expanding dynamic equilibrium."

The crowd roared, cheered, and burst into song: . . .

Chapter 14: Personal-Emotional Development In Adapt, Vernon Williams Oct 1982

Chapter 14: Personal-Emotional Development In Adapt, Vernon Williams

ADAPT Program: Essays

From its inception theorists in the student development field have written about developing the whole student. As time passed, we became increasingly aware of the vastness of our ignorance regarding how to enhance that development. Beginning in the early sixties, this knowledge gap began to be filled. Theorists such as Keniston (1965), Astin (1969), Sanford (1966), Chickering (1969), Roy Heath (1958), and Douglas Heath (1968) contributed to this knowledge. Recently Perry (1970) has had a large influence on student development theory. Loevinger (1976) has produced a new work extending her theory significantly. That addition enhances the value of her theory …

Chapter 13: Adapt: The First Five Years, David Moshman, Susan Johnston, Carol Tomlinson-Keasey, Vernon Williams, Debra Eisert

ADAPT Program: Essays

The ADAPT program has, throughout its brief history, been subjected to continuing evaluation, both to assess its effectiveness in meeting its objectives and to get the sort of ongoing feedback necessary for the program itself to continue developing. These evaluations have ranged from formal, objective comparisons, on a variety of measures, of ADAPT students with one or more groups of control students not involved in the program to more informal and subjective observations of classroom activities, analysis of written assignments, and interviews with students. Detailed reports of these evaluations are available elsewhere, e.g. (Johnson & Moshman, 1980, Sheldon, 1978; Tomlinson-Keasey, …
