This study aims to examine the literary representations of the book and the reader in the novels of Sami Tchak. The fact that the Togolese author's novels are deeply rooted literary recollection reveals a direct link between writing and social issues. Literary references become the structuring principle of his works, which often depict readers "erudite readers". "Ordinary people" as well as a large number of highly-educated persons often read only books from the canon, those by well-known authors. Lifeline: Making The Personal Experience Theatrical, Nat Texler

Using Practice as Research (PaR) as a methodology, this artefact-exegesis investigates how personal experiences are made theatrical from the perspective of the playwright. Beginning as an example of verbatim theatre, and evolving to become a thriller, the artefact Lifeline provides a specimen of transformation for this project. The exegesis examines uses of material thinking in finding extremes in experiences which become sources of form and content. The research proposes that any limits of the verbatim approach in the context of Lifeline’s material are overcome by allowing preoccupations drawn from other areas of the playwright’s interest to influence creative direction, including …

In his very first novel - La vie et demie - the question was put forward: wherefrom shall Sony Labou Tansi write so as to be? With a stunning lucidity, the author observed the irreducible gap that separates him from (and yet links him to) his writing: "I who speak of the absurdity of the absurd [ ... ] wherefrom do you think I speak if not from the outside?" “Rocky Horror: A Study in Shadows and Flight” is a creative nonfiction piece that analyzes the infamous legacy left by the cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. As a first-year in college, the speaker strings together a series of vignettes from different encounters with the film in her life, from her first midnight showing to her first performance as Columbia in a live production. In a few pages, this piece examines the meaning of identity and freedom as the speaker works through repulsion, rebellion, and all things Rocky.

The Goose

The Sea Squad is a band of cheerleaders against climate change. Taking action as a team in formation, they gather momentum, inviting all people to cheer with them, mimicking the infinitely expandable nature of the seas' molecular structure. The work was developed and performed as a bilingual project at Est-Nord-Est in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec, Canada, and has since been performed and exhibited internationally. The following poems are some of the chants that Sea Squad use to get a crowd cheering together against climate change.

Added to our intrinsic differences, we find distinctions amongst people of our same gender, ethnicity, and race. These separations, in the long run, can turn into acts of miscommunication, create discomfort and animosity; and thus begins a tragic cycle of thinking in binaries. Blazing Worlds is a collection of short stories exploring themes of understanding, isolation, the world of work, and identity. These stories follow characters who are searching for connections to others, to their environments, to their work, and to themselves. The protagonists of these stories inhabit worlds that are slightly adjacent to reality, worlds cast into a near future, and worlds that operate by the logic of the campy and the fantastic. What ensues is a mentor-apprentice story exploring art, race, sexuality, performance, aging, dementia, alcoholism, politics, Canada, and other theme. Above all, a page- turner and picaresque romp meant to entertain and challenge.

The problem addressed in this thesis is cultivating an answer to the question: what creates or comprises the sum total of my Blackness as a modern American woman living in our current political climate? Over the course of May 2017 - February 2018, I examined the role of a theatre director in the development of a new play. The play that I directed was written by Brandon Adam, and is titled Nice Jewish X. We developed the play using three different forms of performances as guideposts and opportunities for feedback. The three forms of performance were a closed cold reading, a rehearsed open reading, and a fully staged and produced production.
