A History Of Wrul: The Walter S. Lemmon Years, Andre J.E. Mostert Jr.

Founded by Walter S. Lemmon on June 26, 1931, international radio station WRUL originally had the call letters W1XAL. On December 2, 1934, the stat ion began broadcasting World Radio University programs produced by the World Wide Broadcasting Foundation, a non-profit, educational foundation funded by Mr. Lemmon and the Rockefeller Foundation.

On September 7, 1939, the calI letters were changed to WRUL. Two days later the transmitters and antennas were moved f rom Boston to Scituate, Massachusetts. Control of the station was taken by the United States government on November 4, 1942. During World War II, WRUL was operated by …

A Historical Study Of Educational Broadcasting And Broadcast Training At Utah State University, James Kay Randall

Utah State University began to present radio programs on a regular basis over KSL Radio in Salt Lake City in 1931. In 1952, its first television program was televised over KSL-TV. Today the University is broadcasting programs over the majority of Utah's radio and television stations.

This thesis covers the development of broadcasting from USU in three major areas: (1) radio and television programs presented over Utah broadcasting outlets, (2) the construction of radio and television stations on the campus, and (3) instruction in broadcasting. There has been no attempt made to evaluate the University's use of these media.

The purpose of this thesis was to make an historical study examining a selected list of textbooks dealing with the subject of gesture in elocution, expression, or oral interpretation between the years 1870 and 1930 in the United States. A preliminary chapter reviewed the backgrounds of elocution in the United States before 1870. The succeeding chapters reviewed the textbooks chosen for study for each twenty-year period to gain an insight into each author's philosophy of teaching gesture in delivery. Each textbook contained definitions of the various terms involved, which definitions also served to disclose the author's attitude toward the teaching …

This study seeks to describe carefully the professional accomplishments of one contemporary director, Peter Brook, in an effort to arrive at a generalized perspective through individual analysis. The first task of this study is to compile a professional biography of Brook's work - to chronicle his achievements. The second objective is to separate the genre of his work in the various media and describe and analyse his treatment and philosophy of each area. This study will also examine his rehearsal technique and his work with experimental projects.

A Survey Of Speech Therapy Programs Of Selected School Districts Within A One Hundred Mile Radius Of Lodi, California, Edward O. Tempel

Recognition of the need for special education for school children with speech handicaps was first made in Potsdam, Germany, in 1896. Twelve years later in 1908 the first public school class in speech correction in the United States was organized in New York City, Programs of speech and hearing re-education in the public schools of the United States have expanded from this single metropolitan system in 1908 to a nation-wide effort in little more than fifty years.

In the United States today more than two million school children require remedial services from competently trained speech clinicians. In California public schools …

Many events of the gold rush have been adequately narrated in numerous books and articles. The succeeding pages in this thesis will recall, historically by topic, important incidents of one phase of that period never before treated as a separate study that phase is the theatre of the Mother Lode region.

The argonauts of the Mother Lode wanted to be entertained and could pay for it. Many preferred the saloon and gamboling hall, but the theatre did not languish because of this, and in fact, developed in some instances directly out of the saloons and fandango halls.
