Bridging The Gap Between Molecular Components And Functional Electronic Chemical Sensing Devices With 2d Layered, Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks, Emma Katherine Ambrogi

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

Layered, conductive framework materials are a class of materials with properties that make them ideal sensing materials in electronic chemical sensors. My thesis is focused on the development of these materials for electrochemical sensing of liquid phase analytes, and on understanding the material–analyte and material–electrode interfaces, and their self-assembly and deposition onto surfaces.

Chapter 1 provides a summary of the use of layered conductive metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) in electronic chemical sensors, detailing the materials and sensor architectures employed, and the analytes detected. Relevant performance metrics are compared, and investigations into material–analyte interactions are highlighted.

Reply To: On The Statistical Foundation Of A Recent Single Molecule Fret Benchmark, Dorothy A. Erie, Lydia Kisley, Dushani Dunukara

Faculty Scholarship

In their ‘Matters Arising’ manuscript, Saurabh et al. discuss two issues related to single-molecule Förster resonance energy transfer (smFRET) experiments: the use of the Gaussian noise approximation and spectral crosstalk. Their arguments are based on simulations obtained with parameters that differ significantly from the typical conditions measured experimentally, and, thus, from the regime included in the original study (Götz et al.1). In addition, they make claims about our multi-lab blind study that we would like to rectify. In Table 1, we provide a list of specific statements made by Saurabh et al. with our respective explanations.

Journal of Electrochemistry

The development of novel strategies to access cyclopropanes has become increasingly important due to the vital role of these three-membered ring structures in synthetic intermediates, natural products, and pharmaceuticals. Herein, we present an electrocatalytic method for the synthesis of cyclopropanes through intermolecular dehydrogenative annulation of active methylene compounds and arylalkenes. This electrochemical process requires no chemical oxidants, allowing for a speedy access to various functionalized cyclopropanes from inexpensive and readily available materials.

Studies of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) toxicity have largely focused on individual components such as flavour additives, base e-liquid ingredients (propylene glycol, glycerol), device characteristics (eg, model, components, wattage), use behaviour, etc. However, vaping involves inhalation of chemical mixtures and interactions between compounds can occur that can lead to different toxicities than toxicity of the individual components. Methods based on the additive toxicity of individual chemical components to estimate the health risks of complex mixtures can result in the overestimation or underestimation of exposure risks, since interactions between components are under-investigated. In the case of ENDS, the potential of …
