This focus is not surprising, given that the US is home to more immigrants than any other country in the world. Decoding Stock Market Movements: The Role Of Unemployment And Volatility, Bipllab Roy, Suparna Bhattacharjee

Northeast Journal of Complex Systems (NEJCS)

This study investigates how unemployment and market volatility interact with stock prices in the Indian context, framing the stock–labour–volatility nexus as a complex adaptive system (CAS) rather than a set of linear, time-invariant relationships. Using verified secondary data on unemployment, India VIX, and NSE stock indices for 2013–2023, we first apply simple and multiple regression as a descriptive baseline. Results show a strong negative association between unemployment and stock prices (R ≈ 0.824, R² ≈ 0.68, p < 0.05), consistent with Keynesian demand-side channels, while the linear VIX–stock relationship is weak and statistically insignificant (R² ≈ 0.07, p > 0.05), consistent with the expectation that volatility operates through non-linear, regime-dependent mechanisms not captured by OLS.

Social media influencers play a commercial role on social media platforms such as Instagram, where sponsored content is often integrated into personal and relatable content. Content which could be considered a “normal” post by social media influencers. Sponsorship disclosures are required and regulated by the Federal Trade Commission to signal paid advertising and partnerships between Influencers and brands. Sponsorship disclosures are theorized to activate persuasion knowledge and psychological reactance, potentially reducing consumer purchase intentions. This review examines how recent policy changes have reshaped the linkages between ESG and sustainability. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we conducted a systematic review examining empirical studies of ESG–sustainability performance relationships published between 2020 and 2024. Social innovation is an expanding practice in the peacebuilding sector. In this article, three peace scholar-practitioners reflect on our experiences as peacebuilders and consider the utility, tensions, and possibilities for peace and social innovation in theory and in practice. We draw insights gleaned through a focus group workshop with peacebuilding colleagues and highlight three case study examples from Colombia, the Philippines, and Kenya, each demonstrating the challenges and opportunities of social innovation in the peace sector. This study examines the relationship between hospital financial performance and operational efficiency. Using data from the American Hospital Association (AHA), we find that profitability, debt coverage, and working capital efficiency are positively associated with hospital efficiency, while liquidity and capital structure exhibit a negative correlation. Fixed-asset efficiency, however, shows no significant impact on hospital operational efficiency. Furthermore, we find that the operational efficiency of urban hospitals is, in general, more sensitive to financial performance than that of rural hospitals. These findings provide practical insights for healthcare administrators and policymakers aiming to enhance hospital operational efficiency and promote equitable care delivery.

This study examines the connection between religiosity and earnings quality, employing accrual-based and real earnings management as key indicators. By analyzing data from 22 countries from 2020 to 2023, the study identifies a negative correlation between religiosity and earnings manipulation, suggesting that managers in more religious environments are less prone to such practices. The robustness of these results is validated through multiple methods and alternative religiosity metrics. Furthermore, the study highlights the role of legal systems in shaping this relationship, demonstrating that managers in religious nations governed by civil law are more likely to engage in earnings management. Social media influencers (SMIs) have become integral to digital marketing, shaping consumer perceptions and promoting products and services. While some SMIs are dedicated to political content or develop such content occasionally, nonpolitical SMIs may also engage in political chatter within their usual content. This study examines the effects of such chatter on consumer engagement by focusing on gaming SMIs. The main analysis is based on a dataset of 43,892 videos from 200 SMIs. The findings indicate that, overall, political chatter intensity in non-political content negatively impacts user engagement. We empirically examine how trust asymmetry between countries can impact the cross-border merger outcome. Differing trust perceptions between acquirer and target countries can increase the complexities of deal negotiations and integration, constraining the successful deal completion and outcome. We find, in a comprehensive global sample of 56 countries spanning 37 years, that higher trust asymmetries between the acquirer and target countries significantly increases the cross-border merger withdrawal intensity and reduces the expected synergy gains. Moreover, the adverse effects of trust asymmetry are significantly attenuated by the quality of institutions in both countries. Our results hold after employing various empirical techniques …

This study applies machine learning models such as TabNet, XGBoost, CatBoost, Support Vector Machines, a Multilayer Perceptron, and Logistic Regression to predict takeover-rumor accuracy using a proprietary dataset of 2074 rumor articles with identifiable target firms, screened from over 30,000 news articles from January 2002 to December 2011. In the raw feature (no-PCA) specification, Logistic Regression and TabNet perform similarly. After addressing class imbalance and applying dimensionality reduction (PCA), TabNet materially outperforms Logistic Regression and delivers economically meaningful gains: A TabNet-based long-short strategy earns higher average monthly abnormal returns than a Logistic Regression strategy at both horizons, 1.148% versus 0.773% …

In today's fast-paced and high-pressure society, maintaining emotional well-being requires effective strategies for managing everyday negative affect. This research examines the role of service experiences in reducing negative affect and introduces experience therapy as a novel strategy for affect regulation. Through a series of studies, we assess the effectiveness of experience therapy and investigate how different service experiences—varying in levels of personal effort involvement and social involvement—contribute to negative affect regulation. The findings demonstrate that experiences requiring high personal effort and social involvement are particularly effective in alleviating negative affect, especially among emotionally stressed individuals. Addressing the challenges related to shipping associated with online purchases of physical products, many marketplaces have introduced membership-based free shipping (MFS) programs and concomitantly invested heavily in their logistics and fulfillment capabilities.
