Ditch Tradition...And Move To Case-Based Learning, Emily Dane-Staples
Ditch Tradition...And Move To Case-Based Learning, Emily Dane-Staples
The COSMA Journal
Recent criticisms of higher education include a lack of relevance and alignment with what employers are seeking in new hires. A lecture-based approach to teaching has proved less effective than other active learning strategies and does not adequately mimic the working environment sport professionals face. To better align the classroom and the workplace, a case-based learning approach can be used. This pedagogy blends high impact practices that have been demonstrated to assist students in knowledge acquisition and soft skill development by replacing traditional lecture and chapter readings with real-life scenarios that require student engagement with concepts in application. The technique …

The Impact Of Implementing International Financial Reporting Standard (Ifrs) 16 On Enhancing The Quality Of Accounting Information, Abdelrahman Khattab, Mahmoud Nassar
Jordan Journal of Applied Science-Humanities Series
This study aims to examine International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) 16, related to leases, and its impact on the quality of accounting information, particularly regarding relevance and faithful representation. The previous standard, IAS 17, faced challenges, notably the failure to recognize operating leases as assets and liabilities on the balance sheet, which hindered an accurate depiction of a company's financial position. The introduction of IFRS 16 addresses these issues and is considered a positive step toward improving financial reporting by enhancing the quality of accounting information. A descriptive analytical approach was employed, utilizing a questionnaire distributed to external auditors. One …

Some business leaders lack effective strategies to develop and implement their organization’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives to improve the value of the organization’s brand. Business leaders, in particular, are concerned with balancing the improvement of brand value while addressing stakeholder expectations and navigating regulatory complexities. Grounded in institutional and legitimacy theories, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore effective strategies for the implementation of ESG initiatives to improve brand value. Participants included five senior leaders from the energy, nonprofit, technology, and consulting sectors who had implemented ESG initiatives. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and …

Many small business leaders struggle to tailor online strategies that drive demand, limiting growth and differentiation in competitive digital markets. Business leaders must adopt data-informed, customer-centered approaches that align digital marketing efforts with consumer behavior and market expectations. Grounded in social exchange theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore the online shopping marketing strategies that some small business marketing leaders use to increase demand for products and services. Data were collected through semistructured interviews with six small business leaders from Vancouver, British Columbia; Toronto, Ontario; and Seattle, Washington. The four main themes identified using thematic analysis …

Assessing The Sustainable Circular Fashion Supply Chain As A Model For Achieving Economic Growth In The Global Market, Andrew P. Burnstine, Raouf Ghattas
Faculty and Staff Publications & Presentations
The fashion industry faces a critical sustainability crisis, contributing up to 10% of global carbon emissions and generating 92 million tons of textile waste annually. The study highlights the complex interplay of material flows, business models, power structures, and cultural mindsets, presenting a multi-scaled framework for advancing cleaner production and circularity in one of the world’s most resource-intensive sectors. This study proposes a transformative model for circular bioeconomy in fashion, integrating systems-change theory, degrowth economics, and emotional durability. Through case studies, including Patagonia, Eileen Fisher, and EU policy frameworks, the paper demonstrates how circular strategies can reduce waste, extend product …

Confronting The Mental Health Crisis: Structural Inequities, Market Pressures, And The Role Of Pharmacy Solutions, Kasi Gorli, Thomas L. Pile, Craig Kimble, Alberto Coustasse
Management Faculty Research
The mental health crisis in the US is severe, with depression and anxiety leading causes of disability among young adults. The mental health services market is growing, but access to care remains inconsistent, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Pharmacists are playing a crucial role in mental health care, improving medication adherence and patient outcomes through collaborative practice agreements. Systemic reform is needed to address barriers such as affordability and social determinants, with pharmacists integral to closing care gaps.
The Role Of Emotional Stability And Social Confidence In Leading With Vulnerability Moderated By Perceived Trust In The Leader, Perceived Trust In The Team, And Psychological Safety, Adam N. Smith
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
AKTiVe leadership is a foundational cultural model that has been adopted at Florida Health Science Center (Tampa General Hospital). The premise of the model is that treating each other with Authenticity, Kindness, Transparency, and Vulnerability (AKTiVe Model) will lead to cultural change that enhances trust, engagement, and psychological safety, which will in turn drive performance improvement for the organization. It takes years to change the culture of an organization, which highlights the need to focus on sustainability and resilience in the culture. This research aims to understand the personality traits that predict leading with vulnerability.

Generation Z And Entrepreneurship: Community Banking’S Next Challenge, Arturo Rodriguez
Journal of Business & Entrepreneurship
Generation Z (Gen Z), is currently graduating from college and joining the workforce in the United States. Gen Z is distinctly unique from other generations and has been identified as highly entrepreneurial. Gen Z has also been recognized as being highly reliant on technology, which is something that the banking industry, but specifically, smaller community banks have not yet fully embraced. This paper explores strategies that community banks’ executives and board of directors can utilize to attract Gen Z entrepreneurs who, in general, despise or do not have knowledge of the way in which banks conduct business lending.

AI and automation in pharmacies enhance clinical care, operational efficiency, and workforce optimization, with widespread adoption in hospitals and retail chains. Key benefits include reduced medication errors, improved patient satisfaction, and increased pharmacist productivity, allowing focus on higher-value clinical roles. Challenges include high initial costs, cybersecurity concerns, and resistance to change, necessitating thoughtful planning and stakeholder engagement. Preparing pharmacy students for technology-driven environments is essential for successful AI integration and ethical oversight in pharmacy practice.

Financial Inducements In Gambling Marketing: An Information Disclosure Proposal To Inform Gamblers Of Their True Economic Value, Philip Newall, Dominic Cortis, Jamie Torrance
UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal
Financial inducements such as free bets are frequently-used gambling marketing offers which temporarily improve a gambler’s usual pattern of risk and potential return. Previous research has shown that there are up to 15 distinct types of financial inducements in common use, and that gamblers frequently misunderstand inducements’ play-through requirements and other complex terms and conditions. The Australian government has therefore recently banned play-through requirements for inducements shown to new customers, and the Great British regulator the Gambling Commission has recently announced a maximum play-through requirement of 10 times. The present work describes an alternative and yet potentially complementary approach based …

Comparing Regulation With Collective Bargaining: Drawing On Processes Of Change During The Covid-19 Crisis In Israel, Lilach Lurie, Guy Mundlak
Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal
This article compares two systems of labour market governance: regulation by means of employment standards, and norms that are established in collective bargaining. A comparative framework draws nine criteria, spanning procedural and substantive dimensions, and emphasises the degree of integration between the systems, or “coupling.” The study uses Israel’s response to the COVID-19 crisis as a case study, drawing on a unique dataset of all regulatory provisions and collective agreements concluded from March 2020 to December 2021, supplemented by interviews with key actors. In the public sector, strong coupling was achieved through coordinated regulatory and bargaining processes, resulting in more …

During the COVID-19 pandemic, 11.5 million U.S. businesses applied for relief from the federal government. Collectively, these entities received just under 800 billion dollars. It was one of the largest fiscal intervention policies directed at businesses in American history. Though substantial scholarly and public attention has gone toward investigating participant fraud, other participant behavior has been less examined. This includes the relatively small number of individuals and businesses (128,304) that chose to repay their forgivable government loans. This dataset is used to investigate this question, with variables testing hypotheses relating to altruism, patriotism, and self-interest. Results are analyzed in the …
Behavioral Assessment Software: Enhancing Polygraph And Investigative Interviewing, Alan Saquella
Behavioral Assessment Software: Enhancing Polygraph And Investigative Interviewing, Alan Saquella
Publications
In the rapidly evolving world of security, law enforcement, and investigative sciences, professionals are increasingly turning to advanced technologies to supplement tried-and-true methodologies. One emerging innovation is behavioral assessment software, designed to enhance both pre-employment screening and investigative interviewing. Acting as a form of modern human intelligence collection, these tools enable examiners and investigators to gather deeper insights directly from candidates and subjects, revealing behavioral cues and risk indicators that might otherwise remain hidden (Vrij, 2008).
Importantly, behavioral assessment software is not intended to replace polygraph or other traditional investigative methods. Instead, it functions as a complementary resource—one that provides …
