The COSMA Journal
This teaching case study details a monumental moment in the history of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) involving the announcement of the abrupt release of a long-tenured, beloved performer, Ron "R-Truth" Killings. The release came as a major surprise to WWE fans, as the performer had recently been featured in a high-profile, nationally televised "main event" match against the WWE icon and crossover pop culture star John Cena. After the news broke that the beloved performer would not be returning to the company, an instantaneous sentiment of shock and subsequent consumer backlash went viral. Ultimately, the WWE did an about-face, bringing …

Play For All: Financial And Legal Dilemmas In Proposing Adaptive Playgrounds, John J. Miller Dr., Jason W. Lee
The COSMA Journal
This case study examines the complexities of designing, funding, and legally complying with adaptive and inclusive playgrounds for children with disabilities. Inclusive playgrounds prioritize social integration by enabling children of all abilities to play together, while adaptive playgrounds focus on accommodating specific functional needs through specialized equipment. Both approaches support physical, cognitive, and social development and promote equitable community participation. Titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), mandate accessibility in public and private recreational spaces, yet compliance alone does not guarantee meaningful inclusion. Additionally, funding remains a significant challenge, with full-scale adaptive playgrounds often costing hundreds …

The COSMA Journal
This teaching case study provides an insightful exploration into multifaceted aspects of sport and recreation management. It narrates a fictionalized account enriched with real-life details, focusing on Rhonda Harper, a respected parks and recreation professional leading an initiative to fund an inclusive playground. While this endeavor has garnered support from local citizens, civic leaders, businesses, and children's advocates, raising the necessary $200,000 has proven to be challenging. A profound dilemma emerges when considering a potential $40,000 donation from a local gaming resort. Although this contribution could secure the needed funding for this initiative, it presents intricacies associated with the ethical …

Harrisburg University Other Works
This paper conducts a comparative analysis of U.S. and Chinese frameworks for AI literacy and adoption, with focus on agentic AI and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) systems capable of autonomous reasoning and execution. We examine national policies, educational integration, governance structures, and technological roadmaps, employing both qualitative review and quantitative modeling. Mathematical formulations include multi-dimensional literacy scoring, Bass diffusion models for adoption dynamics, risk assessment functions, regulatory effectiveness indices, competitiveness metrics, and optimization frameworks for resource allocation. Our analysis reveals divergent paradigms: the U.S. Favors decentralized, innovation-driven approaches with emphasis on interoperability and public-private collaboration; while China pursues centralized, state-led …
How The Labor Movement And Labor Strife In Northwest Ohio In The 1930s Shaped The Structure Of American Labor, David M. Savino
How The Labor Movement And Labor Strife In Northwest Ohio In The 1930s Shaped The Structure Of American Labor, David M. Savino
The Journal of Economics and Politics
The labor disputes of the 1930s involved more than just the traditional relationship between management and labor. In a way, these disputes were more about long-term gains and the realization of industrial labor achieving real power and influence versus gaining short-term outcomes such as wage increases and better working conditions. For over a century, craft unionism dominated the American system regarding representation, influence, and immense control over the economy, society, and the political system. At about the same time, many industrial-type unions were forming and evolving. Many of the monumental struggles of industrial and agricultural unions took place within the …

This study critically examines the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), specifically ChatGPT, in the development of doctoral dissertation proposals, highlighting both its potential and its ethical implications. Through a content analysis of a dissertation proposal created using ChatGPT, the study investigates how GenAI supports structural organization, academic writing, and citation formatting while exposing significant concerns related to fabricated references, methodological misalignment, and diminished scholarly rigor. Although GenAI accelerates the proposal-writing process, its outputs often lack the depth, coherence, and originality expected at the doctoral level, thereby threatening the integrity of academic research. Findings reveal that GenAI-generated content may deceive …

High School Dropout Rates Among Latin Students In The United States, Taryn T. Marriott
High School Dropout Rates Among Latin Students In The United States, Taryn T. Marriott
Student Works
An ongoing concern of educators and community members is the disproportionately high amounts of Latinx students dropping out of high school in the United States. Although there has been notable research done and action taken, the problem still remains. Lack of familial support, discrimination, and residence in low-income areas all contribute to the low retention rates of Latinx youth on track to graduate high school. As a result, youth who do not complete their education and set their sights on career goals have a harder time with employment, communicating in their society, and tend to show higher levels of engagement …

Financial Ratios And Stock Volatility: Empirical Evidence From The Banking Sector, Rahma Tri Benita
Journal of Accounting Auditing and Business
Banking stock price volatility is closely related to company performance and fundamental indicators. This study analyzes the short-term and long-term relationships between financial ratios and stock price volatility in the banking sector. Based on the results of the long-term correlation, the Price to Earnings Ratio (P/E) and Dividend Yield (DY) variables are proven to be dominant factors influencing volatility because they are directly related to stock price movements. In the short-term correlation between state-owned banks, there is an inverse relationship between Price to Book and ROE, and Debt to Equity has a significant negative effect on Return on Assets and …
Targeting Investment In On-Farm Surface Water Storage For Groundwater Conservation, Kent Kovacs
Targeting Investment In On-Farm Surface Water Storage For Groundwater Conservation, Kent Kovacs
Faculty Scholarship
Optimal investment in conservation requires balancing the benefits of conservation against its costs. We model the benefit of groundwater, less the cost of conserving groundwater through a subsidy for on-farm surface water storage. On-farm surface water storage reduces arable land but provides a substitute for groundwater used in irrigation. The average social net benefit from conserving water is $12.32 per acre-foot after thirty years with the current subsidy for surface storage, and the aquifer thickness rises by 10.6%. The average social net benefit of groundwater conserved rises by lowering the subsidy, but the volume of conservation also declines. A third …

Journal of Accounting Auditing and Business
Cash management is fundamental to sustaining uninterrupted local service delivery and supporting credible budget execution. In West Java, municipal cash holdings exhibited fluctuations over 2019–2023, with only a limited number of districts/cities consistently maintaining cash holdings ratios above the operational sufficiency threshold. This study examines (i) the determinants of cash holdings Capacity and (ii) the relationship between cash holdings and expenditure effectiveness. Cash Holdings Capacity is classified as sufficient when the cash holdings ratio exceeds 100%, whereas Expenditure Effectiveness is classified as effective when the effectiveness ratio exceeds 90%. The quantitative analysis applies binary logistic regression to 27 districts/cities in …
Transmission Of Geopolitical Shocks To Firm Behavior: A Synthesis And Integrative Model, Daniel S. Andrews, Harald Puhr, April Knill
Transmission Of Geopolitical Shocks To Firm Behavior: A Synthesis And Integrative Model, Daniel S. Andrews, Harald Puhr, April Knill
Faculty Publications
This study examines the transmission of geopolitical shocks to firm behavior. While previous research has primarily focused on the direct relation between shocks and firm behavior, we provide a more nuanced understanding by conceptualizing geopolitical shocks as disruptions that evolve through explicit and implicit channels to influence firm behavior. Based on a systematic review of 159 articles, we identify the key mechanisms that transmit the impacts of a geopolitical shock. Our findings reveal that geopolitical shocks manifest in institutions and their lower-level mechanisms, and such transmission is neither uniform nor random. Furthermore, we categorize firm behavior into distinct response modalities. …

Linguistic Inequalities And Social Mobility In Morocco, Ismahane El Kallal
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
Morocco’s plurilingual context assigns unequal status and functions to languages and varieties, turning linguistic resources into potential instruments of domination and discrimination. This article examines how linguistic inequalities affect social mobility by shaping access to educational credentials, socially valued occupations, and opportunities for social advancement. Drawing on an empirical study, it shows how unequal linguistic capital influences communication, self‑confidence, and social positioning, and how these inequalities are reproduced through institutions and everyday interactions.

Scientific Output Of University Faculty: Causes Of Gender Inequality In The Academic Sphere, Sanaa Doukkali
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
This study investigates individual and institutional factors associated with scientific output among Moroccan university faculty in the humanities and social sciences, with particular attention to gender differences. Scientific output is measured through a composite score of publications over the past ten years. Based on a sample of 341 academics (105 women and 236 men), results show generally low productivity and a lower level among women. For women, output is mainly linked to rank, involvement in editorial/review activities, and external solicitations, while time‑consuming family responsibilities constrain research time. Institutional variables (teaching load, promotion, support, governance) explain little of the variation, suggesting …

Discrimination Experienced By Single Mothers In Morocco, Hind Chokri
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
Despite legal reforms and Morocco’s ratification of international instruments aimed at combating discrimination and violence against women, single mothers continue to face persistent stigma and multiple forms of discrimination. This article analyzes the legal, social, and economic determinants that shape discrimination across the life course of single mothers. It reviews the legal status of single mothers and their children under Moroccan legislation and highlights barriers to protection, social inclusion, and economic opportunities.
Fiscal Injustice, Wiam Aboulhouda
Fiscal Injustice, Wiam Aboulhouda
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
Fiscal questions have become increasingly central to public debate and are closely linked to widening inequalities. This article examines fiscal injustice in the context of globalization, intensified international tax competition, and the shifting of tax burdens toward less mobile bases. It discusses how the tax–public good relationship is framed and how heavy taxation may be perceived as unfair, producing economic, social, and psychological consequences such as tax incivility and resistance. Focusing on Morocco, the article questions which tax structures are perceived as fairest and how redistribution is experienced and evaluated by citizens.
