Roald Dahl’s “James and the Giant Peach” has captivated audiences for generations.

And East Tennessee State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance is bringing the production to the Appalachian Highlands later this year.

“‘James and the Giant Peach’ is a musical for the whole family to enjoy,” said Cara Harker, director, as well as a professor and associate chair of the department. “Through music, dance, puppetry and more, this story celebrates the lasting bonds of friendship where everyone, be it human or insect, finds the love they so richly deserve.”

Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 16-18, and …

This week, East Tennessee State University held a ribbon-cutting at the newly renovated Gilbreath Hall, the university’s oldest academic building. The event was part of the university’s Founders Week, a celebration of its founding in October 1911.

Named for ETSU’s first president, Sidney Gilbreath, Gilbreath Hall underwent significant renovations last summer, transforming its classrooms and offices with state-of-the-art technology and amenities that will improve the student experience.

Dubbed “the weird Thoreau” by The New Yorker, VanderMeer’s work has captured a range of awards. His “Southern Reach” trilogy, a New York Times bestseller, has been translated into over 35 languages. The first novel in the series, “Annihilation,” won the Nebula Award and Shirley Jackson Award, and Paramount made it into a movie in 2018.

Using micro-level data on consumer shopping behavior, this paper investigates end-consumers’ attitudes toward firms’ ESG behavior, and as importantly, the ability of consumers to affect firms’ policy concerning sustainability issues. We find that consumers care about firms’ approach toward ESG, and consumers’ behavior can impact firms’ attitudes. Using ESG incidents as a proxy, we find that the reduction in store visits is more pronounced for ESG-conscious consumers, such as those living in democratic counties, and counties with a higher fraction of educated and younger residents. Online shopping interest data yields similar results. Using abnormally hot temperature as a shock to …

This study explores the case study of two Quaker nuns, Ms Catherine Evans and Ms Sarah Cheevers. Their coincidental connection with the Mediterranean island of Malta caught the attention of several researchers, primarily interested in the micro history of the Quakers movement. Originally, Evans and Cheevers were entrusted to travel to Jerusalem, expecting to convert Christians at the epicentre of Christianity to Quakerism. The global tourism reaches of Orlando, Florida, and the world’s most visited theme park complex, Walt Disney World, provide a unique context for studying global communication in a tourism setting through the crisis messaging efforts. This study explores the reopening of Walt Disney World and subsequent messaging, specifically from a risk and crisis perspective, using the IDEA model to categorize Disney COVID-19 messages. Using a qualitative, etic approach via a codebook based on the IDEA model, the study results determined whether pandemic messages and mentions (the study’s unit of analysis) addressed internalization, explanation, or action.

Assessing Career Development Curriculum Within A Business Capstone, Molly Wickam

This study sought to assess how career development curriculum embedded in business capstones provides learning experiences that bridge college to career. Experiential learning theory, andragogy, and Social Cognitive Career Theory were used to create and assess a class assignment named Business Capstone Bingo. Case study research design using qualitative descriptive methodology and thematic analysis was employed. Findings showed that participants preferred career development activities over non-career development activities, LinkedIn is a valuable career development tool, and professional resume assistance is helpful to adult undergraduates earning a bachelor’s degree.
