Oil Futures Reactions To Monetary Policy Surprises: A High-Frequency Analysis, Syed Mujahid Hussain Dr., Basel Awartani, Farrukh Javed, Iqbal Khadaroo Dr., Nader Virk Dr.
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This study examines how oil futures respond to monetary policy shocks arising from FOMC and ECB target-rate announcements, using high-frequency data. The results indicate that both sets of announcements significantly influence oil futures prices. However, FOMC decisions have a more pronounced effect on oil futures, whereas ECB interest rate surprises predominantly have a limited impact on the oil futures return and volatility. The analysis further uncovers an asymmetric response to positive versus negative interest rate shocks. These findings enhance the understanding of how monetary policy surprises are transmitted to oil futures markets. Therefore, these results have important implications for policymakers …
From Trees To Treewidth: Inventory Management In Complex Supply Chain Networks, Philippe Blaettchen, Andre Calmon, Georgina Hall, Mohit Tawarmalani
From Trees To Treewidth: Inventory Management In Complex Supply Chain Networks, Philippe Blaettchen, Andre Calmon, Georgina Hall, Mohit Tawarmalani
Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
We propose an exact linear programming (LP)-based solution approach to the Guaranteed Service Model (GSM), one of the most widely applied models for optimizing safety stock placement in supply chain networks. Our approach handles any directed acyclic network and any cost function that depends on a stage’s incoming and outgoing service times. It scales polynomially in the number of nodes n in the network, pseudo-polynomially with respect to the bit size of the maximum replenishment time M, and (for fixed M) exponentially in its treewidth, which quantifies how “tree-like” a network is and can be much smaller …
Curiosity In Tourism: A Review And Future Directions, Sten Langmann, Pieter Jan Bezemer, Eerang Park, Sangkyun Kim
Curiosity In Tourism: A Review And Future Directions, Sten Langmann, Pieter Jan Bezemer, Eerang Park, Sangkyun Kim
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Curiosity increasingly attracts attention in tourism research. However, the field remains conceptually fragmented around what curiosity is and how it works, often pointing to related yet different understandings of the concept. Drawing on an in-depth analysis of 61 peer-reviewed articles, we aim to build a more coherent agenda for future research by answering two core questions: how has curiosity been conceptualised and studied in tourism research, and what gaps and directions emerge from the literature? The analysis reveals that curiosity has been studied in four primary ways in tourism research: an innate motivational driver, a situational mediating state, an outcome …
Reappraisal Of Adverse Weather As A Catalyst For Special Tourism Experiences, Valério Souza-Neto, Brent Moyle, Yawei Jiang, Gui Lohmann
Reappraisal Of Adverse Weather As A Catalyst For Special Tourism Experiences, Valério Souza-Neto, Brent Moyle, Yawei Jiang, Gui Lohmann
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
On any given day millions of travellers find themselves contending with weather that deviates dramatically from prior expectations. Traditionally regarded as an unwelcome disruption, adverse weather has rarely been examined for its potential to enrich, rather than diminish, the value of tourist experiences. Consequently, this research critically explores how tourists positively reappraise adverse weather disruptions in tourism experiences. Based on eight focus groups (n = 42), transcript data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis within a social-constructivist paradigm, combining iterative coding with abductive reasoning. Findings demonstrate that adverse weather can function as a situational catalyst that enables tourists to reinterpret …

Is The Crisis Over? Fostering Innovative Work Behavior In Response To The Constant Pressure Of Resource-Deficiency For Street Level Bureaucrats: The Impact Of Psychosocial Safety Climate, Teamwork, And Work Engagement, Yvonne Brunetto, Matthew Xerri, Geremy Farr-Wharton
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
There is conflicting evidence about the pathways Street Level Bureaucrats’ (SLBs’) use to engage Innovative Work Behavior (IWB). This study uses Street Level Bureaucrat (SLB) and Conservation of Resources (COR) to examine the extent to which SLBs’ work engagement and/or burnout mediates the relationship between Psychosocial Safety Climate (PSC) and teamwork, and IWB. The methods comprised a sample of 259 healthcare SLBs (doctors, nurses, allied health) collected at two times, and analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results show that the variance of PSC and teamwork explained a third of engagement, and engagement-burnout mediated the impact of PSC and teamwork …

Modernisation In Artisanal And Small-Scale Mining (Asm): Governance, Technology, Market Integration And Contested Development Pathways, Michael Mayom Ajith
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) is increasingly recognised as a critical source of livelihoods and minerals required for the global energy transition. Yet despite decades of formalisation, the sector remains highly informal, with uneven governance, gender bias and persistent inequality due to a multitude of reasons. Therefore, this systematic integrative review analyses the interplay of governance, technological modernisation and market integration factors in shaping ASM modernisation in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) from an interdisciplinary perspective. Sixty-five peer-reviewed studies published between 2006 and 2026 were analysed using a thematic synthesis and Gioia-inspired coding. Six interrelated questions about the drivers behind informality, licensing …

Between Digital Transformation And Regulatory Vacuum: Cybersecurity Of Public Services In Mozambique, Faztudo Languisse Eng.
Between Digital Transformation And Regulatory Vacuum: Cybersecurity Of Public Services In Mozambique, Faztudo Languisse Eng.
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
The rapid expansion of digital public services in Mozambique—including e-government platforms, digital health systems, and electronic tax administration—has outpaced the development of a coherent legal framework for cybersecurity. While Law No. 3/2017 (Electronic Transactions Law) of 9 January 2017 introduced foundational data-protection principles, Mozambique long lacked a dedicated cybersecurity regulatory authority, mandatory security standards, and formal incident-notification mechanisms. This regulatory vacuum exposed critical public services to escalating cyber risks as digital transformation was actively promoted as a development priority. This article examines the legal and institutional gaps in Mozambique's cybersecurity governance framework prior to the 2026 Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Laws, …

Nutrition Labeling And Food Choice Behavior In A Cross-Border Context: Evidence From The Rio Grande Valley, Edith Galy
International Business and Entrepreneurship Faculty Publications
Unhealthy dietary habits have been linked to chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. As a result, governments have implemented nutritional labeling policies intended to assist consumers in making informed food choices. While the United States relies primarily on Nutrition Facts panels, Mexico recently adopted a front-of-package warning label system that uses highly visible warning symbols. This study examines how nutritional labels influence food choices among university students in the Rio Grande Valley, a unique border region where consumers are exposed to both U.S. and Mexican food-labeling systems. Data was collected through an online Qualtrics survey administered to …

The Effect Of External Auditors’ Competence And Independence On The Cost-Saving Of Audit Recommendations: Evidence From Tanzanian Local Government Authorities, Lenatusi Leonard L. Munyangabi, Henry Zeno Chalu, Keregero M. Chirongo
Business Management Review
This study examined the effect of external auditors’ competence and independence on the cost-saving of audit recommendations among Tanzanian Local Government Authorities (LGAs). Persistent non-implementation of audit recommendations in developing countries raises concerns regarding the extent to which audit reports contribute to fiscal prudence and resource efficiency. Grounded in the Theory of Inspired Confidence and Stewardship Theory, the study hypothesized that competent and independent auditors enhance the cost-saving potential of audit recommendations. A descriptive-explanatory design was employed, involving 345 respondents drawn from 126 selected LGAs. Data was collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed through multiple regression analysis. Both independent variables …

The Influence Of Budgeting And Financial Reporting On Financial Accountability In Religious Organisations: Evidence From Selected Churches In Tanzania, Plasidi Marcel Bayno, Helena Thomas Haule
Business Management Review
Budgeting processes and financial reporting are widely recognised mechanisms for enhancing financial accountability, yet empirical evidence on how these mechanisms influence financial accountability within faith-based non-profit organisations remains limited. Guided by Stewardship Theory and Stakeholder Theory, this study examines the influence of budgeting processes and financial reporting on financial accountability in religious organisations. Using a deductive approach, empirical data were collected from 173 Catholic and Lutheran parishes in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, yielding a total of 471 valid responses aggregated at the parish level for analysis using Partial Least Square Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that both budgeting processes …

Spiraling Up, Spiraling Down: A Multi-Level Study Of Social Value Creation And Community Capitals In A Mexican Social Enterprise, Karla M. Corres Luna
Graduate Doctoral Dissertations
This dissertation examines how a social enterprise creates social value and, through the same intervention, erodes it in the communities it serves. Research on social entrepreneurship has theorized value largely from the organizational viewpoint, measured it at a single point in time, and rested on an unexamined aggregation assumption: that gains delivered to individual households sum into well-being at the level of the community. This study holds that assumption up to community-level, participant-centered evidence. Through three qualitative studies of a participatory housing model implemented by a social enterprise in two informal settlements in Querétaro, México, it analyzes social value creation …
The Anti-Racist Organization? Power, Embodiment, And The Politics Of Becoming, Patricia Tiimah Naya
The Anti-Racist Organization? Power, Embodiment, And The Politics Of Becoming, Patricia Tiimah Naya
Graduate Doctoral Dissertations
Why do organizational justice commitments so rarely produce structural transformation, and what happens to the people who take them seriously? This dissertation addresses that question through a longitudinal qualitative study of Aequitas University, a large public urban research institution in the northeastern United States, during a multi-year attempt to become “anti-racist.” Drawing on 129 semi-structured interviews with 115 organizational members, 7 focus group discussions, four years of field observation, and an archival corpus spanning more than a decade of institutional history, the dissertation examines how justice commitments move through organizations over time. Justice commitments do not simply succeed or fail. …

Debt Financing Cost And Green Innovation: The Conditioning Role Of Financing Dependence Structure In Chinese Manufacturing Firms, Hongzhuo Chen, Mohd Faizal Basri, Hazianti Abdul Halim
International Journal of Management, Finance and Accounting
Debt-financing costs are generally considered to be restrictive for corporate innovation; however, their role in green innovation may be conditional rather than uniformly negative. Based on a sample of A-share listed companies from 2012 to 2023, this study examines whether this cost is related to green patenting and, more importantly, how this relationship varies with firms’ financing dependence structure. Green innovation can be reflected in the scale of total green patent applications and the depth of green invention applications. Based on the estimates, both indicators are positively correlated with the cost of debt, and the impact is relatively stronger for …

Dividend Yield Modelling And Forecasting Under The Wilkie Investment Model With Inflation Effects: Evidence From Malaysia, Ilya Adlina Abd Halim, Norizarina Ishak, Siti Raihana Hamzah, Ahmad Fadly Nurullah Rasedee
International Journal of Management, Finance and Accounting
This study uses the Wilkie Investment Model in the context of the Malaysian stock exchange, incorporating inflation as a significant factor in explaining investment behavior in line with local economic conditions. Although the Wilkie model is broadly utilised in actuarial science and has been assessed in many developed countries, its use in emerging markets such as Malaysia is still limited. Based on historical data from Malaysia, both the dividend yield and inflation series were revealed to be stationary using the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test. Therefore, the series is applicable for time series analysis. The study used Malaysian data to estimate …

From Digital Readiness To Employability: Mediating Role Of Artificial Intelligence Competence And The Moderating Influence Of Policy Support Among Malaysian Graduates, Fraz Arshed Butt, Abdelhak Senadjki, Hui Nee Au Yong
International Journal of Management, Finance and Accounting
The fourth industrial revolution (4IR) emphasises the demand for graduates with both digital readiness and artificial intelligence (AI) skills, which are aligned with labour market demands. Although prior studies link digital skills to employability, empirical evidence is scarce, and there is little research on how digital readiness translates into employment outcomes in AI-driven, particularly developing, economies. Hence, considering AI competence as a mediating mechanism and government policy support as a moderator, this study investigates the effects of digital literacy, technological self-efficacy, and digital learning engagement on graduate employability. Grounded in human capital theory, social cognitive theory, and institutional theory, this …

A cross-sectional quantitative research design was adopted, and 406 valid responses were gathered from 406 Malaysian Generation Z individuals and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that the model explains 58% of the variance …
Impact Of Green Finance On Environmentally Sustainable Development Goals, Shu Min Loh, Hui Shan Lee, Leong Mow Gooi, Suwen Xie
Impact Of Green Finance On Environmentally Sustainable Development Goals, Shu Min Loh, Hui Shan Lee, Leong Mow Gooi, Suwen Xie
International Journal of Management, Finance and Accounting
In this context, climate change represents a real phenomenon with significant implications for economies, industries, and societies worldwide. In the context of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement, these implications are significant, given that the countries in question cumulatively account for a considerable share of global emissions, energy consumption, and industrial production. As these countries aim for a carbon-neutral future and continue the path toward the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set for 2030, the question for these countries, therefore, is not whether they should act but how they can act in a sustainable manner toward a …

Pricing Under Pressure: Cost Volatility, Customer Affordability And Value Perception In Micro And Small Food Businesses, Fadhlur Rahim Azmi, Nursyahwani Mohd Sukri, Maciej Woźniak, Haslinda Musa
International Journal of Management, Finance and Accounting
This study examines how micro and small food businesses make pricing decisions under cost volatility, customer affordability pressure, and value perception constraints. Drawing on semi-structured interview evidence from 12 Malaysian micro and small food and beverage businesses, this study adopts an interpretive qualitative multiple-case design. The data were analysed using thematic analysis and cross-case comparison, with dynamic capabilities as an interpretive lens. The findings show that pricing is not a simple cost-plus calculation or the application of a single pricing method. Instead, micro and small food businesses practice adaptive hybrid pricing by combining cost awareness, competitor reference, affordability judgment, value …
