Evolution Of Inflation Accounting In The U.S., Marilyn A. Waldron, John E. Shaver, Charles E. Jordan

Accounting Historians Notebook

This article presents a discussion of the development of the need for inflation accounting, the history of official pronouncements addressing inflation accounting, and a summary of research studies dealing with reporting the effects of changing prices. Not only does this analysis reveal the continuity, depth, and complexity of the issues facing the FASB, but it also facilitates an understanding of how and why the FASB determined that presentation of supplmentary price-level adjusted information should be voluntary.

Treasuries, Repertories And Collections In The Production Of Common Goods, Roger A. Lohmann

Faculty & Staff Scholarship

What types of resources are involved when members of a voluntary association combine their efforts in pursuit of joint goals or common goods? This paper examines the question from the vantage point of a rational choice theory termed endowment theory. Endowment theory is concerned with the rational allocation of productive surpluses to associations and other voluntary groups in pursuit of identified common goods. At least three distinct types of resource dowries can be identified in the current world of nonprofit associations. Treasuries are endowments of money and market-priced resources. Two other categories of "priceless" resource endowments are also evident among …

The Sex Stereotype Of A Job As A Moderator Of Sex Bias In Performance Evaluations, Sandra B. Crooks Jul 1989

The Sex Stereotype Of A Job As A Moderator Of Sex Bias In Performance Evaluations, Sandra B. Crooks

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

In accordance with the stereotype-fit model of discrimination (Dipboye, 1985), the results of past research indicate that the extent to which jobs are sex stereotyped dictates whether or not a main effect for rate sex is present in performance evaluations. The purpose of this study was to further examine the relationship between the sex stereotype of the job and the presence of sex bias in evaluation. Competitive Groups As Cognitive Communities: The Case Of The Scottish Knitwear Manufacturers, Joseph F. Porac, Howard Thomas, Charles Baden-Fuller Jul 1989

Competitive Groups As Cognitive Communities: The Case Of The Scottish Knitwear Manufacturers, Joseph F. Porac, Howard Thomas, Charles Baden-Fuller

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

This article explores how the mental models of organizational strategists determine perceptions of competing organizations and responses to competitive conditions. We first outline a cognitive perspective for discussing competitive strategy, and then use this framework to analyse the particular case of the Scottish knitwear industry. We show how the structure of that industry both determines and is determined by managerial perceptions of the environment. We conclude by drawing out a few general implications of our framework for research and theory on competitive strategy.

Management Of Construction Jobsite Productivity : A Self Assessment Approach, Nicos Poliviou Nicolaou

Theses

A critical component of construction project management is the improvement of jobsite productivity. This paper proposes a procedure for use by project managers to assess jobsite productivity performance. The methodology provides a framework which when applied will identify specific aspects of the jobsite where potential productivity improvement is possible. A major feature is its systematic approach which will direct the project manager to the specific resources which when better managed will lead to lower construction costs.
