Dod Mission Engineering And Integration Explorative-Exploitative Architecture For Technology Innovation, Jose L. Bricio-Neto

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations

The ability of U.S. Department of Defense to achieve timely innovation in support of U.S. National Defense and Military Strategies continues to increase in significance. The growing challenges in U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) technological innovation in a context of global security and rapid pace of global competitiveness continue to reveal many shortcomings in current weapon systems development and acquisition practice. As the pace of technological innovation is accelerating, the DoD faces the challenge that the same disruptive technological advances are also being made available to or developed by its adversaries. Helping Employees Help The Environment: An Intervention To Increase Environmental Organizational Citizenship Behaviors (Ocb-E) Via A Subtle Stimulus, Rebecca C. Garden

Psychology Theses & Dissertations

Researchers’ understanding of the relationships between environmentally-oriented organizational citizenship behaviors (i.e., OCB-Es) and other workplace variables have improved since the turn of the century, but both our comprehension of the behaviors and the effectiveness of interventions targeting them require much more investigation. Further, there is very little research that examines the role of positive affect in promoting these behaviors, even though scholars have suggested that it may be the “silver bullet” (Kals & Müller, 2012) to facilitating employees’ voluntary environmental actions. To that end, the aim of the current research is to take an initial step towards understanding how organizations …

Revitalizing Scholarship On Academic Collective Bargaining, Daniel J. Julius Mar 2020

Revitalizing Scholarship On Academic Collective Bargaining, Daniel J. Julius

Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy

Research on unions in academe began in the 1960s and 1970s. It continued in the 1980s as greater numbers of faculty organized but then declined in the 1990s, with the exception of a small group of scholars who continue to study and comment on labor management relations in post-secondary education. Many prognostications, originally put forward in the 1970s and 1980s, remain unexamined. The last two decades in particular, have seen less attention focused on unions in academe. Organizing efforts continue to be robust, and advocates from all vantage points continue to offer arguments both in favor or against collective bargaining. …

Leadership In Extremis: Authentic Leadership In Recreational Scuba Instructors, Geoffrey E. Sutton

Doctor of Management

In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, the operational environment was chaotic and uncertain. Dangerous circumstances include not only military combat and traditional occupations such as law enforcement and firefighting, but also dangerous sports such as parachuting and mountain climbing. When Sales Becomes Service: The Evolution Of The Professional Selling Role And An Organic Model Of Frontline Ambidexterity, Douglas E. Hughes, Jessica Ogilvie

Marketing Faculty Research and Publications

Building on new theoretical foundations in the professional selling domain, growing bodies of research on frontline ambidexterity, and an increasingly demanding and dynamic frontline role, this article advances frontline ambidexterity through three focal goals. We first provide an in-depth discussion of the evolution of the professional selling role. This foundation allows us to identify and explore the implications of a market-driven model of ambidexterity that can manifest organically within certain professional selling contexts. In so doing, we espouse a new model of individual-level ambidexterity—organic frontline ambidexterity. Next, we discern existing models of frontline ambidexterity (characterized as inorganic) and compare these …

Do We All Agree? A Mixed-Methods Study Of The Impact Of Climate Strength On Psychological Safety, Team Learning, And Team Performance, Taylor Harrell

Dissertations

The majority of today’s organizations rely on teamwork to drive innovation and achieve success. Evidence suggests that two constructs—psychological safety and team learning behavior—demonstrate significant predictive power on performance. Existing research posits that the more psychologically safe a team feels, the more it can learn, which enhances its performance. While organizational literature has established links among psychological safety, team learning, and team performance, the conditions under which these relationships are enhanced or diminished are less clear.

Recent studies indicate that climate strength is a factor that significantly influences the relationship between climate variables and outcomes. Climate strength refers to the …

The Effect Of Population-Level Learning On Entry Likelihood In The Mobile Game Industry, Dusan Seong, Sahangsoon Kim

Asia Marketing Journal

Population-level learning has traditionally been used to provide an explanation for the underlying mechanism of industry change. But it has yet to examine the impact on strategic decisions such as market entry. This conceptual paper aims to provide an insight into how population-level learning affects entry likelihood by acting as a tool for interpreting population-level changes. We study this in the context of the fast-paced mobile gaming industry where population-level information is salient and develop a set of propositions with regard to the likelihood of entry.

The Relationship Among Generational Cohorts, Tenure, Job Categories, And Employee Readiness For Organizational Change In A Healthcare Environment: A Quantitative Study, Jerry S. K. Adatsi

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

Internal and external factors constantly influence and pressure healthcare organizations to adapt, change, or respond to changes in the modern global business environment. When facing the challenge of change initiatives, healthcare organizations depend on the flexibility of employees to successfully navigate the change process as there is the expectation that their employees will be ready for a change. Extant literature, however, suggests that more than 70% of change initiatives undertaken by businesses fail, and the high cost of failure is due to the resistance of employees to change and their lack of change readiness. With continued interest by healthcare organizations …

However, they differed in terms of manifestations. A typology of academic administrators was developed based on the eight competencies, namely: (1) delegator, (2) accommodator, (3) director, and (4) initiator. Further quantitative research is recommended to refine this typology. Likewise, to develop current and potential …

Complex Compliance Investigations, Veronica Root Martinez Jan 2020

Complex Compliance Investigations, Veronica Root Martinez

Faculty Scholarship

Whether it is a financial institution like Wells Fargo, an automotive company like General Motors, a transportation company like Uber, or a religious organization like the Catholic Church, failing to properly prevent, detect, investigate, and remediate misconduct within an organization’s ranks can have devastating results. The importance of the compliance function is accepted within corporations, but the reality is that all types of organizations—private or public—must ensure their members comply with legal and regulatory mandates, industry standards, and internal norms and expectations. They must police thousands of members’ compliance with hundreds of laws. And when compliance failures occur at these …
