The adoption of marketing strategy does not occur in cultural vacuums. Instead, marketing strategies unfold within social contexts that encode values, beliefs, and patterns of behavior. The increasingly inter-dependent global economy results in the acculturation of tensions between global and local consumer cultures. This dynamism however offers new opportunities for international firms to redefine and reevaluate their glocal (global/local) marketing strategies. Relying on Triandis cultural dimensions, this research contributes to international marketing literature by answering two key research questions, namely, what are the differences between African (Ghanaian) and American consumers’ cultural characteristics? and how do the cultural differences explain attitude …

Economic Freedom, Capital, And Growth: Evidence From The States, Sarah Ihlenfeld, Joshua C. Hall, Yang Zhou
Economic Freedom, Capital, And Growth: Evidence From The States, Sarah Ihlenfeld, Joshua C. Hall, Yang Zhou
American Business Review
Hall et al. (2010) develop a growth model where the allocation and productivity of human and physical capital depend on the quality of institutions in a country. We apply their model to the US states from 1980 to 2000. Using the Economic Freedom of North America as our measure of institutional quality, we find evidence that increases in human capital lead to increases in output per worker only in states with average EFNA scores above 5.91. Physical capital, unlike in the cross-country case, always has a positive effect on output per worker.
When Failure Is Neither Fatal Nor Final: Understanding Re-Internationalization Processes, Salman Ali, Ajeet N. Mathur
When Failure Is Neither Fatal Nor Final: Understanding Re-Internationalization Processes, Salman Ali, Ajeet N. Mathur
American Business Review
Re-internationalization, or firms’ re-entry into international operations after completely withdrawing from initial international business failures, is a neglected phenomenon in international business research. This research develops theoretical underpinnings for understanding re-internationalization processes through an inductive theory-building approach using case studies of four Indian firms from diverse industries. We examine various aspects of firms’ initial internationalization, including the learning and experiences gained during such activities, the role of networks and relationships, valences in organizational commitment to internationalization during the exit and time-out periods, and the significance of dynamic capabilities that facilitate successful re-internationalization of firms. Our theorizing is relevant for scholars …

Hyper-Peripheral Regional Evolution: The ‘Long-Histories' Of The Pilbara And Buryatia, Tom Barratt, Anton Klarin
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
In this article, we outline how evolutionary economic geography (EEG) explains peripheral economic development by comparing two peripheries over extended time periods. This comparison involves critically appraising EEG’s capacity to account for peripheral evolution. For geographical, historical, and political reasons, peripheries lack resources that lead to path creation and renewal. The hyper-peripheral regions of the Pilbara in north-west Australia and of Buryatia in south-east Russia provide excellent comparative case studies for understanding how peripheral regional development evolves in ways contingent upon time, state institutions, natural resource endowments, and region/firm dynamics. Our analysis shows that EEG is well equipped to deal …

It looked at information processing as the standard for understanding and satisfactory learning against memorization, leading to poor academic performance as it does not allow what the learner has learned to be part of him. The study also discussed that the instructor, facilitator, teacher, lecturer, and users have a role to play in processing information that improves learning. What remains essential is the …

There is a popular notion that the life of innovators and inventors is a glorious and enviable one because they have talents which others do not have, and because they can overcome any obstacles. These talents are, in the popular interpretation, something mysterious, indefinable and inimitable. But in reality, the innovators and inventors have to deal with many serious and pernicious obstacles which are unknown to other people. Those who are unaware of the obstacles must become aware of them and must reduce them, because the reduction of these obstacles will greatly facilitate the works of innovators and inventors. It, Social Capital And The Digital Ecosystem: A New Approach To Online Content Co-Creation, Radhika Rajagopalan, Runa Sarkar
Management Dynamics
In this paper, we explore how the dynamics of knowledge transfer within a community depends on social capital and how the synergies generated by social capital can positively impact the co-ordination between member-nodes. This could lead to the evolution of a more complex and multi functional ICT enabled socio-technical system capable of enhanced co-creation of knowledge. In this context, we present the Digital Ecosystem (DE) concept as a prototype for a sustainable knowledge synthesizing network. A Digital ecosystem describes an ICT enabled network that displays associative and autopieotic properties. In other words, not only is a so defined network capable …

(4) Communicational modal types are: factual mode, contextual mode, pictorial mode, insinuative mode, deceptive mode, etc. (5) Unconscious layers include self-deception, repression of one's own perception, inability to distinguish whether …

Thus the concept has been understood from a variety of angles like, levels of learning in organizations, process of learning, outcomes and barriers to learning. On the other hand, firms are increasingly being looked at from the network perspective, since it has been accepted that no organization can function in isolation and rather its existence is affected by the myriad of relationships with other firms, in which it …

When "First, Do No Harm" Fails: A Restorative Justice Approach To Workgroup Harms In Healthcare, Pedro L. Flores
Dissertations
In healthcare, workgroup mistreatment is a pervasive problem that begins during medical education (medical and nursing school) and becomes embedded in the “hidden curriculum of professionalism,” which dissuades and even punishes learners for talking about abuse they witness. Furthermore, the mistreatment of healthcare providers (HCPs) pervades all disciplines in the healthcare delivery chain due to a combination of cultural factors, systemic pressures, dysfunctional hierarchies, and leadership’s tolerance of intimidating and disruptive behaviors. Not surprisingly, 18% of U.S. HCPs have left the medical field since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and burnout, stress, anxiety, and increased workloads have been identified …
