Effects Of Store Atmosphere On Shopping Behavior, Wendy L. Billings '90
Effects Of Store Atmosphere On Shopping Behavior, Wendy L. Billings '90
Honors Projects
There is little sound documentation for the actual effects of store atmosphere on shopping behavior. Some retailers have claimed that they have influenced customers' buying behavior by manipulating store atmosphere via layout, color, lighting, and music (wysocki 1979; Stevens 1980). However, this evidence is solely anecdotal. Researchers have been unable to document strong effects of store atmosphere for a variety of reasons. First, the effects evoked by store atmosphere are primarily emotional states that are difficult to verbalize. These emotions are temporary and therefore difficult to recall accurately. In addition, they influence behaviors within the store rather than more easily …

Psychological Aspects Of Slaughter: Reactions Of College Students To Killing And Butchering Cattle And Hogs, Harold A. Herzog Jr., Sandy Mcgee
Human Health Collection
This study examined the reactions of college students involved in slaughtering cattle and hogs as part of their jobs on a college work crew. The 27 students were surveyed on attitudes containing items toward slaughtering animals and toward different uses of animals. Nineteen were later interviewed. Some aspects of slaughtering were reported to be more bothersome than others. There was a relationship between the amount of experience of the subjects in slaughtering and also their general attitudes toward various uses of animals and their responses to several of the items on the questionnaire. The perceived benefits of the slaughtering experience …

Interpretive Structural Modeling And Its Applications, M. Venkatesan
Interpretive Structural Modeling And Its Applications, M. Venkatesan
Research Reports from the Department of Operations
The purpose of this paper is to introduce managers and management scientists to a recently developed tool for modeling complex systems. Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) is a technique for aiding people think and communicate effectively about complex systems. The elements or variables of a complex system can usually be identified with sufficient clarity, but the relationships among the elements can seldom be clearly stated. The ISM technique assumes transitivity of the inter-relationships and uses a group-consensus process for developing subjective pair-wise relations and uses a computer for storing and processing the subjective information using simple logical operations. A binary matrix …
