Hedonic regression analysis of single family homes typically includes structural variables, locational variables and neighborhood quality characteristics. When nearby properties are related, Dubin (1988) reports that error terms are spatially autocorrelated. Estimation methods for these spatially autocorrelated error terms or hereafter, spatial approaches, include maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and kriging techniques such as kriged maximum likelihood estimation (KMLE). Unfortunately these spatial methods require massive computer resources and are limited to significantly fewer observations than traditional ordinary least squares (OLS). This paper investigates the combination of spatial approaches and Monte Carlo analysis, a method that approximates large data sets. A question …

The Las Vegas Valley is one of the driest regions in the southwest United States. Due to limited water supplies from the Colorado River, rainfall, and groundwater sources, the water requirements of the valley’s growing population is slated to surpass the current available water supply. The purpose of this comparative study is to quantify the amount of consumptive water used at a major Las Vegas resort/casino in one year. There are both internal and external pressures on the U.S. Department of Energy to reduce the estimated costs of isolating radioactive waste, $19 billion for transuranic waste at Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) and $57 billion for high level waste at Yucca Mountain. The question arises whether economic analyses would add to the decision-making process to reduce costs yet maintain the same level of radiological protection. This paper examines the advantages and disadvantages of using cost-benefit analysis (CBA), a tool used to measure economic efficiency as an input for these decisions. Cewa: An International, Interdisciplinary, Educational, Environmental Partnership, Brenda Bushell, Pratibha Dangol, Beverly Kracher, Bridget Lyons

This chapter reports the international, interdisciplinary partnership that supports the Creative and Educational Welfare Affiliation (CEWA). We begin by describing CEWA, its various projects, and the genesis of the partnership that supports the CEWA card project. We describe the first year's achievements as well as the difficulties with the CEWA card project. We conclude with recommendations for how to create successful international, interdisciplinary educational partnerships.

The Impact Of Air Quality On The Selection Of A Home, Carol Lane

Hedonic price method studies have assumed that individuals consider air quality as a characteristic of their homes. The purpose of this study is to determine if air quality is a significant characteristic considered when an individual decides where to live. This study uses a survey to determine where air quality ranks amongst the different characteristics of a home. My results show that air quality is significant but ranks below structural and neighborhood characteristics.

Integrating And Evaluating Interdisciplinary Sustainability And Stem Curriculum In Geographical Education: A Case Of Three Teaching Modalities, Susan Gilbertz, Brittany Wood, Christopher Craig, Ismail Karabas, Elizabeth Petrun Sayers, Benjamin Mccormick

The effectiveness of interdisciplinary sustainability curriculum remains understudied in geography education. Accordingly, we deployed and evaluated an interdisciplinary sustainability and STEM module for in-person and online sections of a fall 2018 Human Geography course. Results indicate that sustainability knowledge improved after the interdisciplinary curricular intervention irrespective of course modality. Another focus is to explore student reactions to teaching modality due to COVID-19 disruptions. Results indicate that online student sustainability knowledge also improved during COVID-19 (fall 2020). For students in a section converted from in-person to blended, sustainability knowledge did not improve. Implications are provided.

This research paper uses the Individual Travel Cost Method (Visit Per Annum) to assess the consumer surplus of Taman Pertanian Malaysia (MAP), the first agro­ forestry park in the world The value of consumer surplus per visit is different, depending on the functional form of the model (linear or semi-log), types of travel cost applied and the type of trips taken (expected trips taken or true trips taken). The average consumer surplus per visit derived from this study Is RM 2. 70, RM 88.60 and RM 91.48for semi-log (expected trips), semi-log (true trips) and linear, respectively. It is important to …
