An Evaluation Of The Futures Market In Live Beef Cattle As A Means Of Shifting The Risk Inherent In Cattle Feeding, Philip Paul Hufferd Jan 1969

An Evaluation Of The Futures Market In Live Beef Cattle As A Means Of Shifting The Risk Inherent In Cattle Feeding, Philip Paul Hufferd

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

There has been extensive research and study in the area of hedging price risk of agricultural products on commodity futures markets. This work, however, has been limited almost entirely to the hedging of grain. The first attempt to conduct futures trading in a live commodity began on November 30, 1964, with the advent of futures trading in live beef cattle. In the absence of research and experience with trading of this kind there has been a tendency to transfer conventional futures market logic, with respect to hedging, almost unaltered to the futures market for live cattle. Some researchers have felt, …

Bulletin No 3609 - Land Development In The South Eastern Wheatbelt, G T. Halpin, P. Nelson Oct 1968

Bulletin No 3609 - Land Development In The South Eastern Wheatbelt, G T. Halpin, P. Nelson

Bulletins - 3000 - 3999

Interest in the development of light lands in the south-eastern wheatbelt was spurred by the many ex-servicemen seeking farms after the 1939-45 World War.

Previous attempts to develop this area had been frustrated by poor crop yields, and by the poor carrying capacity of those volunteer pastures which developed on cleared land.

Research into reasons for the poor crop results was begun in 1948-49 with trials sown by Messrs Smith and Halpin between Borden and Lake Grace. The results clearly showed the important role played by copper and zinc in successful crop growth. Since then, field trials have been conducted …

A Mathematical Theory For The Exploitation And Control Of Biological Populations, Stuart H. Mann Aug 1968

A Mathematical Theory For The Exploitation And Control Of Biological Populations, Stuart H. Mann

Research Reports from the Department of Operations

Three types of biological populations are considered in which members of the population are harvested either for their own value or to protect the value of another element of the ecosystem. A revenue and cost structure is defined for each of these systems and population growth rates are assumed to be random variables. Operating policies are described that maximize the expected economic gain to be realized, in the duration of time during which management of the system is anticipated.

Employee Attitude Survey Of Faculty And Staff At Utah State University, Evan N. Stevenson May 1968

Employee Attitude Survey Of Faculty And Staff At Utah State University, Evan N. Stevenson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The general attitude of the faculty and staff was assessed through the questionnaires distributed to all fulltime employees of Utah State University. Their feelings regarding supervision, work recognition, communication, physical facilities, job satisfaction and their attitude toward the administration were reflected by their response.

The over-all campus attitude seems to be good. The areas of supervision and work recognition received the most favorable replies. Downward communications, or communications from the administration to the employee. received more negative response than reactions to upward channels of communication.

The personal comments and opinions submitted contain valuable insight into t he general attitude of …

Business In Nebraska #281, February 1968, Dorothy Switzer, E. L. Burgess

Business in Nebraska

Exports of Nebraska Manufacturers (Dorothy Switzer)

Total exports of manufactured goods from Nebraska amounted to almost 55 million dollars in 1966, according to data revealed recently in the revised published report of a study made by the Bureau of the Census of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Figures from Nebraska fully confirm the spectacular increase in exports of the state's manufactured products reported in the August, 1967, issue of Business in Nebraska, and based on data collected in a Bureau of Business Research survey of a sample of Nebraska manufacturers. The national study also corroborates the local survey as …

West Midlands Development : The Economics Of New Land Development, I J. Moncrieff Jan 1968

West Midlands Development : The Economics Of New Land Development, I J. Moncrieff

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

THE economics of new land development cannot really be separated from the financial aspects.

However, financing development is such a personal business that for general advisory purposes the distinction must be made.

For this reason, the article which follows largely avoids the financial side and is devoted to a consideration of some of the economic factors involved in the development of new land in this area.

Business in Nebraska

Role of Homegrown Industries in the Nebraska Economy (Dorothy Switzer)

Because the exodus from farm to city is continuing in Nebraska, it is necessary that industrial development to accelerated to provide employment for displaced agricultural workers who will have to migrate to other states unless suitable work can be provided for them here. From time to time Business in Nebraska has called attention to the state's homegrown industries that provide employment opportunities for significant numbers of workers. These articles have invariably elicited much interest and evoked requests for other success stories about innovative Nebraska enterprises.

Bulletin No 3547 - Kimberley Research Station - Progress Report 1968, Western Australian Department Of Agriculture

Bulletins - 3000 - 3999

Rivers flowing to the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Timor Sea have been estimated by hydrologists to carry about three times the water transported annually over the Murray drainage system and the South Eastern slopes which, together, comprise the highly settled agricultural areas of South Eastern Australia.

In 1945, the North Australian Development Committee recommended research in the Ord-Victoria rivers region as a first step toward ultimate agricultural development of this Northern potential and, in 1946, the Kim- berley Research Station commenced operations under the joint control of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization and the Western Australian Department …

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

in this issue. . .

THIS FIRST NUMBER of the ninth volume of THE MIDWEST QUARTERLY begins a new year with-somewhat to her surprise- a somewhat new editor. During a summer leave or a sabbatical absence of Professor Cornish, it is true, she has sometimes stepped in, has chewed pencils, checked copy, struggled with an engulfing correspondence, written forewords and afterwords, read proof, worried with subscriptions and copyright and the multifarious details involved in any publication, and all the while has rejoiced rather too audibly in the prospect of a speedy release. She still tends to think of herself as …

Walt Disney World: Background And Philosophy, Marty Sklar

Harrison "Buzz" Price Papers

This assemblage has been prepared as a background and starting point for developing a "philosophy" for the Disneyland-style theme park in Walt Disney World. There is a great deal of other material, particularly articles about Disneyland, that might have been included. However, the intent here is to provide, as a foundation, Walt's thinking and philosophy as it was applied in Disneyland, and additionally Walt's thoughts about Walt Disney World as they apply to what we are now beginning."--WED Enterprises, Inc., inter-office communication, September 21, 1967, written by Marty Skyler.

The Everett Massacre: A Study Of The Industrial Workers Of The World, Arthur H. Belch Jul 1967

The Everett Massacre: A Study Of The Industrial Workers Of The World, Arthur H. Belch

Graduate Student Research Papers

The Everett Massacre serves not only as an example of harassment of organized labor but also as an example of the violence which typified the I. W.W. movement in its attempt to win concessions from an unwilling industry. In order to understand the historical significance of this event and to place it in perspective, it is necessary to understand the growth of the I. W.W. philosophy beginning with the Western Federation of Miners and the creation of the I. W.W. In addition, two incidents serve to illustrate the mental atmosphere in which the I. W.W. operated and public reaction to …
