Charlemagne, Josephine Jonas Jun 1931

Charlemagne, Josephine Jonas

Bachelors’ Theses

In the following pages, I have tried to give some idea of Charlemagne's personality and influence upon European history. No other person means so much in so many ways to the modern world as Charlemagne. Of the four great warriors and conquerors that European history celebrates, Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and Napoleon, it is the chief glory of Charlemagne that he was conspicuously the organizer, the civilizer, the father of governmental organizations and methods as we know them now.

William Of Occam, Armin W. Born May 1931

William Of Occam, Armin W. Born

Bachelor of Divinity

It is now that the second period of the Middle Ages sets in. It is known as the "Age of Revival." "The Age of Revival begins with the opening of the eleventh century and ends with the discovery of the New World. During all this time civilization was making slow but sure advances; social order was gradually triumphing over feudal anarchy, and governments were becoming more regular. The last part of the period especially was marked by a great intellectual revival, a movement known as the Renaissance, or ‘New Birth', by improvements, inventions, and discoveries which greatly stirred men's minds …

Vergil, during the last eleven years of his life, fulfilled his ambition and contributed to the literature of the world the Roman epic, the Aeneid.

A Study Of William Makepeace Thackeray's Novel The History Of Henry Esmond, Esq., Gladys H. Harrington

The Difficult Verses Of The Song Of Deborah Expounded, E A. Schack Apr 1931

The Difficult Verses Of The Song Of Deborah Expounded, E A. Schack

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of this thesis is to give a translation of the entire Song and offer a tenable solution of the linguistic difficulties found therein, established on sound biblical exegesis, and not by corrupting the text, as critics have done and yet do; for that mititates against the clear conception or Holy Writ.

Catholicism In England Under Queen Elizabeth: 1558-1603, William F. Tiernan Apr 1931

Catholicism In England Under Queen Elizabeth: 1558-1603, William F. Tiernan

Bachelors’ Theses

One of the great periods in English History is the reign of Queen Elizabeth. The name of Queen Elizabeth, or of "Good Queen Bess" as her people called her, is held in high esteem by Englishmen. It is true that Elizabeth did many things which appear to us cruel and harsh, and that she can be fairly charged with being unjust and even tyrannical. More than once she used her power and her high position to injure those of whom she was jealous or those whom she feared. But when all that can be said against Queen Elizabeth has been uttered, …

The United States Military Occupation Of The Republic Of Haiti, Thomas John Stevens Jan 1931

The United States Military Occupation Of The Republic Of Haiti, Thomas John Stevens

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The treaty to establish a protectorate over Haiti is another step by the United States in the Americanization of the Caribbean area. These extensions have become a fixed policy of the Department of States. The Republicans and Democrats heartily support the United States government in her program of expansion. Protests will continue, but once the United States gets in, she will stay in. Already she has gone far from the position that she occupied when she first went in. The United States has always had a policy of expansion from early colonial period. She has extended control west, south, and …

Source Materials On The History And Development Of The San Joaquin River And The Stockton Deep Water Project, J. Norman Wenger

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It has been the object of the writer to compile as complete a bibliography, as the time allowed, on the History of the Deep Water Project at Stockton, California.

...

The thesis proper has been directed to cover the major attempts to deepen the water channel from Stockton to San Francisco. Much of this material is not in a form to be readily accessible to the layman so I have included a great deal of it in the form of an Appendix; thus bringing it together, but not making it necessary for the reader to review it unless he or …

The Christology Of The Apocalypse, W H. Ellwanger Jul 1930

The Christology Of The Apocalypse, W H. Ellwanger

Concordia Theological Monthly

More curious notions arise in the minds of many Bible students regarding St. John's Apocalypse than regarding any other book of the Bible. Usually Bible classes are found to be more eager to study this book than any other portion of the Holy Scriptures, and pastors are often asked bewildering and perplexing questions concerning it. Shall we hold ourselves aloof from this writing with an air of "touch not, taste not, handle not," or shall we diligently apply ourselves to laying hold of the divine truths here recorded in their richness and fulness?

How Peter Become Pope, W Dallmann Jul 1930

How Peter Become Pope, W Dallmann

Concordia Theological Monthly

"The Papacy, such as the West knew it in a later age, had not yet 'been born" - in the fourth century, says Duchesne. For stating this historical truth the French Catholic scholar’s History of the Chruch was placed on the "Index.''

Julius I, 337-352, called a synod to Rome in 340, but the Orientals sent an insulting refusal. When he, in 341, reproved some Eastern bishops for calling a synod at Antioch without his permission, they laughed and told him Christianity arose in the East, and if there were any question of superiority, such belonged to the elder, Oriental, …
