Wordsworth's God In Nature, Arnold Graham Walter Aug 1932

Wordsworth's God In Nature, Arnold Graham Walter

Bachelors’ Theses

In this thesis on Wordsworth's God in Nature, I have endeavored to show how the poet through communion with Nature in all its forms was brought into closer relation with the Supreme Being. I have not called him a Pantheist and do not think him such in the strict sense of the word. In my opinion he looked upon God as the beneficent Giver of all that is good in Nature. He believed that Nature was man's best teacher, and that through a knowledge of its ways man could not help but be brought to a fuller understanding of the …

A Thesis On Shakespeare, Literature's Master Dramatist, Hilda Mary Armstrong Jul 1932

A Thesis On Shakespeare, Literature's Master Dramatist, Hilda Mary Armstrong

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis, submitted in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, presents a survey of the life and dramatic works of William Shakespeare, situated within the broader history of English drama. The thesis traces English drama's origins in medieval Catholic Church miracle plays and moralities through the development of Bible drama, interludes, and early English comedy and tragedy, before turning to the Elizabethan stage on which Shakespeare wrote.

A biographical account of Shakespeare's life at Stratford-on-Avon and London is followed by a description of the physical conditions of the Elizabethan theatre, including stage construction, scenery, …

The Franco-German War Of 1870, Angeline J. Koenings Jun 1932

The Franco-German War Of 1870, Angeline J. Koenings

Bachelors’ Theses

Volumes have been written by men, who were by far mere capable and in a better position than I, on the various phases of the great Franco-German War of 1870. To claim that this thesis sets forth ideas and historical facts unknown before would be both preposterous and presumptuous on my part I have merely attempted to narrate clearly, impartially, and concisely the logical sequence of one of the most important wars in history - the important roles played by the two leading figures of the 19th century, Bismarck and Napoleon III, the causes, underlying and immediate, of the period …

The Longbow In English History, Rosalind M. Taylor Jun 1932

The Longbow In English History, Rosalind M. Taylor

Graduate Thesis Collection

The possession of a longbow around which cling the mysteries and the triumphs of its English predecessors presages an interest in its history and possibilities, so it is not strange when in the course of my studies at Butler University I was called upon to select a thesis subject that I found inspiration in my own bow. There is music in the twang of its bow-string; there is poetry in its lines. Every bow has its own personality; every arrow its own peculiar perversities.

A Comparison Of The Philippics Of Demosthenes And The Philippics Of Cicero, Catherine Manning

Why did Marcus Tullius Cicero imitate the great Greek orator, Demosthenes?. Was it coincidence or intention that gave the title Philippics to certain orations that both men produced?

Criticism Of The English Novel In The Eighteenth Century, Natalie Blyn May 1932

Criticism Of The English Novel In The Eighteenth Century, Natalie Blyn

Bachelors’ Theses

The difficulty which presents itself to anyone writing a work such as this is the determination of the standard of criticism that can be applied to the novels of the eighteenth century. It is for this reason that it is necessary to make a rather intensive study of the biographers of the novelists of that period and the men who devoted a great amount of time and labor to this task. Merely to read the novels is not sufficient. For, although one can obtain a fairly accurate determination of the author's purpose and and ideas, one can never be very …

“I will allure her and bring her into the wilderness.'' The loving Husband, His heart filled with love divine, leads His apostate wife into the wilderness. The selfsame God that punished her, vv. 8-13, is the God of love, who has loved her with an everlasting love. When she stands stripped of all her beauty and all her wealth, v. 3, destitute, despised, forsaken by her lovers, a miserable woman, not daring to raise her eyes for shame, then I will "speak comfortably unto her," speak to her heart, so heavy, so sad.

The Policy Of The United States Government In Its Relation With The Navajo Indians, Katherine Diana Brown Jan 1932

The Policy Of The United States Government In Its Relation With The Navajo Indians, Katherine Diana Brown

History ETDs

Although much has been written in criticism of the policy pursued by the United States government in its relation with the Navajo Indians, no investigations have yet been made to determine the nature and development of this policy. The writer chose the subject of this thesis with the hope that she might discover evidence that would make it possible to answer these questions; having lived in close contact and association with the Navajos during her entire life she naturally feels a personal interest in their problems and welfare.

The International Attitudes Of Student In California High Schools, Paul M. Berry

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

An eleventh-year group of American history pupils had been placed under my guidance in a nearby High School. Some four or five weeks after undertaking the task of teaching this group, the World War period chronologically made its appearance. Now, it was not my intention to teach the war in terms of battles, victories, territory lost, or territory regained. My all consuming objective was to attempt to create a dislike for war and all its attributes. This I sought dilligently to do in the following manner: At the beginning of this section one entire period was spent in discussing with …

The Name of the Prophet.

"The Word of the Lord that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri." Hosea is the name of the prophet= help, deliverance. It was Hosea (Oshea), the son of Nun, Num.13,8.16, who, true to his changed name Joshuah, placed his hope of salvation solely in Jehovah and pleaded with his people to follow him in his loyalty to the Lord, Josh. 24, 1-28. It was Hoshea, the last king of Israel, who, unlike his great namesake, sought salvation and deliverance from strange gods, from an alliance with Egypt, 2 Kings 17, 4 instead of making …
