Rainer Maria Rilkes Begriff Der Besitzlosen Liebe : Probleme Und Interpretationen, Kenn Allen Johnson
Rainer Maria Rilkes Begriff Der Besitzlosen Liebe : Probleme Und Interpretationen, Kenn Allen Johnson
Dissertations and Theses
The topic of this thesis is the problem of love in the work and life of Rainer Maria Rilke, especially his notion of “non-possessive love” which has given rise to a great deal of controversy in the Rilke-Literature.
The essential motive underlying the thesis is my concern for the relationship between art and life, and specifically the conflict between the demands of intellectual and spiritual development and the biological-social imperatives to which the artist, like all human beings, is subject. To speak in general terms, my interest in Rilke’s view of love is part of a broad study of alienated …

God's Word In His Mission, William J. Danker
God's Word In His Mission, William J. Danker
Concordia Theological Monthly
Like it or not-and most of them don't-Christian lay people of all denominations find themselves drawn into a struggle splitting the worldwide Christian church into two opposing camps. How much of the Bible is to be understood literally, and how much of it is properly understood to be picture language? Is the Bible to be regarded entirely as a piece of human literature subject at all points to correction by modern research? Or is it exclusively a divine creation? Must it be presupposed that when man's historical, geographical, or scientific knowledge conflicts with this book, it is always 20th-century man …

The Angle
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"She found herself at the counter, buying another fifty-dollar dress. The whole scene: the glittering displays - sequins were in - the disorganized and overdressed clerks, the bee-buzz of the fluorescent lights overhead, recalled memories of cupidity and contentment. Apparel. Accessories. She was back to demanding the newest colors, the smartest fit. Even her jeans were fashionably faded on mornings of inhaled Tide, Glamour magazines and quarters disappearing down the slot of the front-loader ...."

A Study Of The Attitudes Of Iowa Junior High Media Specialists Concerning Sex And Sexuality Materials In The Media Center, Elizabeth Campbell
A Study Of The Attitudes Of Iowa Junior High Media Specialists Concerning Sex And Sexuality Materials In The Media Center, Elizabeth Campbell
Graduate Research Papers
This research was undertaken as a study of attitudes toward sex and sexuality materials and their availability and use in junior high media centers. Several basic assumptions were accepted before the study began. The first assumption: the Media Center best serves the school by maintaining a wide selection of media at different levels of ability and interest, and a large portion of these materials are selected to support the school's curricular objectives. The second assumption: if the Media Center is truly serving the school, the Media Specialist must be providing up to date and vital information concerning adolescent sexuality. A …

Graduate Education And New Jobs In Education, Paul A. Olson
Graduate Education And New Jobs In Education, Paul A. Olson
Department of English: Faculty Publications
Teacher education has too largely concerned itself with a study of schooling rather than a study of education. In the next generation, given the concerns that I’ve talked about, we’re going to have to look much more intensively, on the one hand, at how much human beings learn as biological creatures and, on the other hand, at all the cultural and legal constraints on learning that exist. We will look at education in industry, in the community, in community action programs, in the tribal council, education through ritual, and through play, as well as through public schooling. The job of …
Frederick Manfred, Joseph M. Flora
Frederick Manfred, Joseph M. Flora
Western Writers Series Digital Editions
Alan Swallow has designated Frederick Manfred, along with other writers of the American West, a maverick. The mavericks are serious writers who have pursued their themes without much recognition from the Eastern press, partly, Swallow felt, because the Eastern press has not understood the Western themes or techniques or has been too contemptuous to make the effort. The truth of Swallow’s contention of prejudice is difficult to assess. But there is, in any event, a group of Western writers who have gone on—sometimes with little recognition—pursuing their themes, meditating on the West, writing their books. Alan Swallow was friend to …

The Hazen Mammoth (Mammuthus Columbi), Prairie County, Arkansas, William L. Puckette, James A. Scholtz
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
In May 1965, mammoth remains were exposed during the excavation of a borrow pit for construction of Interstate Highway 40, 2 mi northeast of Hazen, Prairie County, Arkansas. The proboscidian remains consisted of a skull with tusks, mandibles, atlas and other skeletal elements. The vertebra material was scattered over approximately 150 m (1,600 sq ft) but was confined to a layer of red clayey-silt 6.7 m (22 ft) below the surface. No additional fauna or flora was recovered. The mammoth remains are referred to Mammuthus columbi (Falconer, 1857) on the basis of characteristics of the dentition, particularly the comparison of …

Annotated Bibliography: The Concept Of Androgyny: A Working Bibliography, Nancy Topping Bazin
Annotated Bibliography: The Concept Of Androgyny: A Working Bibliography, Nancy Topping Bazin
Women's & Gender Studies Faculty Publications
Androgyny has been variously understood at different times in different cultures, but the idea has been ever present. Just as in each age myths are reinterpreted, so too the androgynous ideal must be redefined again and again by succeeding generations. Our androgynous vision can be informed by tradition and history, but it must be free of the misogyny and sexism which has pervaded much of what men have written about it heretofore. The continued use of the term androgyny is necessary if we are to transcend the dualistic culture and the sex roles we have inherited, but feminists must clarify …
