RISD press was a student newspaper published weekly in the early 1970s, a self-described attempt at consolidating all the information outlets of the school, including the previous student newspapers, Montage. Beginning in September 1973, RISD press included the Brown Daily Herald’s weekly issue of Fresh Fruit as an insert. The issue of September 21, 1973 included an article about the RISD illustration department in the Folio section. Articles about the Danish Design Exhibit and the RISD Liberal Arts division were also included. There was an observation about a local church festival called Our Lady of Fatima. How It Works Out: The Women's Studies Graduate, Nancy Jo Hoffman Jul 1973

How It Works Out: The Women's Studies Graduate, Nancy Jo Hoffman

Women's Studies Quarterly

We're all so busy developing our own women's studies programs, creating new curriculum, hassling over funding, over internal governance and community-related programs, that most of us rarely have time to ask how women's studies affects the work lives of students once they leave the university for full-time participation in the real anti-feminist world. But a program that has been functioning for several years produces graduates: what are they up to? Historically, women in America have been the temporaries in the labor force—though one can be temporary 40 hours a week, for 40 years of one's life. Has women's studies begun …

Report On The Chorti-Maya Indians Of Guatemala With Special Reference To The California Friends Mission, Harold Thomas

Historical Quaker Books

The Chorti-Mayan Indians of Guatemala interested me for several reasons. I had lived among them for a year and a half in a work program as a conscientious objector to war. During that time, I became more and more actively involved in the mission program of the California Yearly Meeting of Friends Church. Nearly all my extra time came to be taken up in youth meetings, camping programs and personal friendships.

While a student in the School of World Mission., Fuller Theological Seminary, my interest deepened. During my stay in Guatemala a great many people in one concentrated area accepted …

Closeup: Buffalo's Course On Women And Social Casework, Mary Cahn Schwartz Apr 1973

Closeup: Buffalo's Course On Women And Social Casework, Mary Cahn Schwartz

Women's Studies Quarterly

The purpose of this course was to look at actual social work practice, using some of the critical perspectives that have emerged in the women's liberation movement. Professional schools that are training practitioners obviously must take a hard look at what they are actually teaching people to do. Social work's emphasis on clinical education gave us an unusual opportunity to examine our own practice. It seemed particularly important to look at the possible sexist assumptions in social work, because the profession deals with concerns that are especially relevant to women, i.e., marriage, families, medical care, abortion and family planning, child …

Closeup: Utah's Course On Women And Education, Dorothy J. Schimmelpfennig

Women's Studies Quarterly

The telephone rang before my alarm clock could sound its bell. "Hello, have you seen the morning paper? The cover story on your class in women's studies has just been released!" announced my excited secretary. A second call extended an invitation to be an immediate guest on a party-line hookup with Two-way Radio, and before lunch an additional interview had been taped for airing the following morning. This startling reaction opened the way for a hectic two weeks. During this time I would be referred to as a heretic and a corrupter of youth, and my husband would be accused …

Social And Religious Attitudes Among Lutheran Students, Kenneth L. Frerking

Concordia Theological Monthly

College students have probably been "'investigated"' more than any other single category of people. They have certainly been the subject of many articles and essays in recent years. However, much of what has been written has either been without empirical basis altogether, or else the empirical research has focused on only a small minority of the campus population. Leo Cherne, executive director of the Research Institute of America.
