Fabiola Cabeza De Baca Gilbert, American Association Of University Women-New Mexico

The 1976 Women in New Mexico Exhibit by the American Association of University Women - New Mexico

Fabiola Cabeza de Baca Gilbert, a New Mexico Cooperative Extension Service agent, was devoted to teaching residents of the state's northern rural areas skills to upgrade the quality of their daily lives. Born in 1898 at her grandfather's hacienda near Las Vegas, New Mexico, she was reared by her grandmother, a Spanish matriarch, from whom she learned both household arts and traditions of a family and culture dating back to early …

The Texas Archaic: A Symposium, Thomas R. Hester

The papers published in this volume were presented at a symposium entitled "The Texas Archaic 11” held in San Antonio on November 2, 1975, during the annual meeting of the Texas. A resolution calling for support of American Indians as they seek treaty rights and assistance in legal action was adopted at the annual meeting of the Lutheran Human Relations Association of America. The Vanguard

Letters to President Gerald Ford from Lutheran leaders - along with those from other church officials - are credited with encouraging the signing into law the Indian Health Improvement Act. The new law will provide $480 million over the next three years.

The House of Representatives had passed the bill 310 to 9 in mid-summer. The Senate later approved the House version of the bill. But the Ford Administration had opposed the legislation from the beginning, primarily because it exceeded proposed budget limitations.
