History And Archaeology Of The Hot Wells Hotel Site, 41bx237, Anne A. Fox, Cheryl Lynn Highley
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
During the month of April 1984, archaeologists from the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, conducted a surface survey and test excavations at the Hot Wells Hotel site in south San Antonio. The purpose of the project was to locate and map the foundations of a large brick resort hotel, built in 1901 and burned in 1925, and to locate and test remains of any other structures on the Hot Wells site. One additional brick foundation that appears contemporary with the hotel was located and mapped. Artifacts recovered pertained primarily to the hotel, or to …

The Vanguard
Several important actions by the Commission for a New Lutheran Church have helped keep justice central to the purpose of the new Lutheran church.
At its meeting Sept. 23-27 in Kansas City, the CNLC included commissions for women and for multicultural ministries in the design of the church, included a social responsibility clause in a resolution on pension fund investments, and set a goal of 10 percent minority membership in the new church within 10 years.

The Lutheran churches are in Indian country.
Hundreds of Lutheran congregations are within 10 miles of an Indian reservation. Hundreds more are in cities with large Indian populations, cities like Minneapolis, Sioux Falls, Seattle, Phoenix, Milwaukee and San Francisco.
Most Indian people, either on reservations or in cities, live in poverty and suffer more unemployment, poorer education, higher rates of illness and less opportunity than any other segment of society.
Considerations Of Economic Justics: A Movement Towards A New Definition Of Poverty, Steven Medema
Considerations Of Economic Justics: A Movement Towards A New Definition Of Poverty, Steven Medema
Bouwsma Paper Contest
Poverty, throughout the pre-modern and modern periods, has elicited a variety of attitudes and responses. Attitudes of the middle and upper classes toward poverty have alternated between thinking of it as an unavoidable natural phenomenon cast upon an unfortunate group of people, and seeing it as being caused by slothful indigents who are too lazy to work. Responses to the problem of poverty have run the gamut from moral chastisement to indoor relief (laboring in a workhouse forinordem to qualify for benefits), to the outright granting of benefits. Yet until the early twentieth century, little was done in terms of …

Rusticus: Notes On Class And Culture In Rural New Hampshire, Donald Hall
New England Journal of Public Policy
Old New Hampshire Highway Number Four was incorporated by an act of the New Hampshire legislature in the autumn of 1800. It wound out of Portsmouth, a seaport that once rivaled Boston, drove west through Concord, north past Penacook, through Boscawen, Salisbury, Andover, and Wilmot on its way to Lebanon and the Connecticut River. These names string history like beads. The Penacook tribe assembled each year on the banks of the Merrimack at the site of the present town that bears their name. I grew up thinking Boscawen an unusual Indian name; it is Cornish, surname of an admiral victorious …
