A Study Of The Active Amateur And Semiprofessional Theater Groups In Central California, Phyllis Jane Nusz

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In the last several years lists of theater organizations in California newspapers hare grown steadily. This writer asserts a need for study of active amateur and semiprofessional theater groups in California for gaining knowledge and understanding of cultural activities taking place about the Western United States. Such material would help students and adults interested in drama gain information where theaters remain active according to particular tastes.

After receiving a list of nonprofessional theater members of American National Theatre and Academy's California regions, theater activity presented itself to be of such quantity within the state that it became necessary to make …

Henrik Ibsen And Thomas Hardy : A Sociological Comparison, Garland Karr Linkous Jr. Jan 1965

Another possible explanation is the fact that Ibsen is universally regarded as the father of modern drama, but Hardy's status-whether he is the last Victorian novelist or the first modern one-is disputed. It is the purpose of this paper to demonstrate, by comparison, that Hardy should very definitely be classed with the modern, realistic writers.

The final Chapter of this paper …

Desert Journey: A Religious Dance-Drama And An Evaluation Of Its Effect On A Selected Latter-Day Saint Audience, Frank W. Hatch

Theses and Dissertations

The Holy scriptures abound in references to the use of dance as a means of worship. It would seem that there is a need to understand how present day members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints feel in regard to the kind of dancing referred to in the Scriptures.

This study will be concerned with the production of "Desert Journey," a religious dance-drama depicting an episode from the Book of Mormon. A record of "Desert Journey" will be made with a movement notation system adapted from Motation, an architectual movement notation system developed by Laurence Halprin of …

Santiago Arguello, Modernista Nicaraguense, 1872-1940, Mila Anne Harmeling

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

A Study Of The Development Of The Wochenlied Plan With Reasons For Its Decline During The Eighteenth Century, David Paul Held Jan 1965

A Study Of The Development Of The Wochenlied Plan With Reasons For Its Decline During The Eighteenth Century, David Paul Held

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The Wochenlied, also known as the "Hymn of the Week" or the "de tempore hymn," was a product of the Reformation. Its inception was found in the attitude of Martin Luther toward congregational singing, his resulting emphasis upon the chorale as the vehicle for such singing, and his liturgical reforms. The Wochenlied plan became an integral part of Lutheran worship practice in Germany during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Its growth was fostered during the first one hundred years following the Reformation during which a favorable liturgical, musical, and educational climate for the development of this hymn plan was present. …

Some Directives For The Education Of A More Excellent Ministry, Arthur C. Repp Dec 1964

Some Directives For The Education Of A More Excellent Ministry, Arthur C. Repp

Concordia Theological Monthly

The continuing reevaluation which theological seminaries have been making of themselves, coupled with a growing criticism of the seminaries' products on the part of many in the church, has produced a lively ferment in the current discussion of ministerial education. Some outstanding theological books and articles of late have addressed themselves to this subject, all of them showing a real concern for finding a solution.
