On The Indispensability Of Natural Law On The Moral Theory Of The State, David W. Bolton
On The Indispensability Of Natural Law On The Moral Theory Of The State, David W. Bolton
Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy
Natural Law is widely regarded as a set of universal moral standards in which the acknowledgement of the differences between right and wrong are inherent in people, not created by society or lawmakers. It is based on the consistent nature of man as opposed to varying cultural standards and is unchanged by time or circumstance. Many thinkers throughout history have offered their educated opinions on the matter of Natural Law and the moral theory of the State. The Social Contract theory of the Modern Secular thinkers of the 17th century was considered a break with classical and traditional Christian …

From Sensibility To Critical Engagement: Sympathy, Animality, And Subjecthood In Wollstonecraft’S Maria And Vindication, Yingnan Shang
From Sensibility To Critical Engagement: Sympathy, Animality, And Subjecthood In Wollstonecraft’S Maria And Vindication, Yingnan Shang
Comparative Woman
This paper examines Mary Wollstonecraft’s strategic use of sentimental animal tropes alongside rationalist critique in Maria, or The Wrongs of Woman (1798) and A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792), arguing that she mobilizes sensibility not as an end in itself, but as a pedagogical instrument within a broader project of aesthetic education—one intended to move readers from affective sympathy toward political and philosophical judgment. Focusing in particular on animal metaphors—especially in the character of Jemima, who repeatedly figures herself as a domesticated and brutalized creature—I trace how Wollstonecraft employs tropes of animality to illuminate the processes by which …
Chain Continuity & Multi-Master Keyframe Coverage- Two Methods For Edit-Ready Ai Filmmaking, John Trevino
Chain Continuity & Multi-Master Keyframe Coverage- Two Methods For Edit-Ready Ai Filmmaking, John Trevino
Theatre Faculty Publications
Current AI video models generate short clips with inconsistent visual details across shots, preventing traditional film editing. A character may change clothing, lighting may shift, and spatial relationships may drift between angles—all of which break cinematic continuity (Bordwell, Thompson, & Smith, 2020). This paper formalizes Chain Continuity, a reproducible four-step method that eliminates these discontinuities by separating camera construction from performance generation. The method requires locking a single Master Key Frame taken from the first frame of the Master Shot, building all other camera angles as static Setup Frames derived only from that first-frame key, and then generating performances solely …
“You’Re Getting A Little Big For This”: Fat Characters In Disney Animated Films, Rachel Casey, Grace Brenner
“You’Re Getting A Little Big For This”: Fat Characters In Disney Animated Films, Rachel Casey, Grace Brenner
Faculty and Staff Scholarship
To further develop the literature regarding representations of larger bodies in popular culture, this quantitative content analysis describes demographic and stereotypic depictions of fat characters in all 54 Disney animated films theatrically released from 1937 to 2023. The 124 identified fat characters were most commonly depicted as sidekicks of the protagonist (n = 38, 30.65%), with only four (3.23%) depicted as protagonists. Demographically, fat characters were most frequently male (n = 95, 76.61%), white (n = 92, 74.19%), middle aged (n = 57, 46.00%), and of lower social class (n = 50, 40.32%). Compared to …
The Resonance Of Desire: A Sonic Exploration And Guide To Recreating Disney’S Signature ‘I Want’ Songs, Aiyanna E. Riley
The Resonance Of Desire: A Sonic Exploration And Guide To Recreating Disney’S Signature ‘I Want’ Songs, Aiyanna E. Riley
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores the sonic architecture of Disney’s Renaissance-era “I Want” songs and develops a framework for recreating their signature production style. This study analyzes how vocal timbre, microphone choices, layering, stereo placement, and mixing strategies contribute to the immersive qualities that define the Disney sound. Drawing from historical accounts, interviews with industry professionals, and technical literature, the thesis documents production practices unexamined in scholarly work. Inspired by David Gibson’s The Art of Mixing, my analyses prioritize spatial and textural qualities in Disney mixes, highlighting how sound design shapes narrative impact. The study culminates in two original compositions modeled …

Invitation To Polynomiography Via Chatgpt: For Teachers, Students And Artists, Bahman Kalantari
LASER Journal
Teachers, students, and artists in the United States and abroad who have encountered polynomiography, in lectures, demos, or software, consistently appreciate its educational value and artistic potential. While dedicated polynomiography programs require upkeep as systems evolve, AI chatbots now offer a practical, accessible alternative. This article invites readers to explore polynomiography with ChatGPT, broadening access beyond specialized tools. While the approach will not match the full range or polish of advanced software, it provides a powerful and flexible entry point with many possibilities.
At its core, polynomiography transforms polynomial equations, each encoding a finite set of points in the complex …

Culinary Collections In The National Library Of Ireland, Joanne Carroll, Nora Thornton
European Journal of Food Drink and Society
The National Library has been collecting, preserving and making the documentary heritage of Ireland available to the public since 1877 and cares for over 12 million items today. In 1926 it became a legal deposit Library so by law one copy of each book and periodical published in the Republic of Ireland must be deposited here. The NLI also acquires books and manuscripts through purchases, such as auctions or private sales and we receive donations of materials into our collections, from individuals and organisations. The Library is made up of different departments including Published Collections, Special Collections and Digital Collections …
Breaking The Mould: The Origins Of Irish Farmhouse Cheese In The Countercultures Of The 1970s And 1980s, Finbar Deery
Breaking The Mould: The Origins Of Irish Farmhouse Cheese In The Countercultures Of The 1970s And 1980s, Finbar Deery
European Journal of Food Drink and Society
This article examines the origins of farmhouse cheese in Ireland, which began in West Cork in 1974 with the creation of Milleens by Veronica Steele. This new farmhouse cheese industry is an example of food production that had no comparable reference in Ireland at the time. The farmhouse cheese industry is examined as an expression of a growing countercultural movement on the island in the 1970s and 1980s. This paper argues that the re-emergence of small-scale cheese production in Ireland is one expression of broader changes in the country and is both connected to and instrumental in the development of …
The Battle To Brand And Market Irish Beef—1950–73, Declan O'Brien
The Battle To Brand And Market Irish Beef—1950–73, Declan O'Brien
European Journal of Food Drink and Society
This article examines the controversy around the marketing of Irish beef up to Ireland’s entry into the EEC in 1973. The internal industry wrangle simmered from the birth of the modern processing industry in the 1950s but burst into life following the collapse in beef farmer incomes in the late 1960s. The article will explore how the Department of Agriculture and successive ministers for agriculture sought to navigate a middle line between the conflicting positions of the farm organisations and meat factory owners. While the National Farmers’ Association (NFA) and the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association (ICMSA) consistently called for …

Agricultural Extension In Ireland: A Century Of Continuity And Change, Mícheál Ó Fathartaigh, Áine Macken-Walsh, Monica Gorman
European Journal of Food Drink and Society
In 1901, Ireland had the largest publicly funded professional extension service – agricultural scientists helping farmers to farm better – relatively, in the world. Utilising a wide range of historical sources and contemporary data, this paper provides a snapshot of the education and work of Irish advisors and their extension activities then and now. It identifies what has changed and what has not, showing key influences on Ireland’s current advisory services. Education for advisors 100 years ago was characterised by gender segregation, with less capacity and diversity. Continuity in the work of advisors then and now is shown in a …
Why The Irish Don’T Eat Offal, Niall Toner
Why The Irish Don’T Eat Offal, Niall Toner
European Journal of Food Drink and Society
In the past fifty years or so, the diverse and colourful displays of animal offal and organ meats that used to be seen in butchers’ shop windows in Ireland, as well as in the UK and America, have all but disappeared. In Ireland, which has seen a gastronomic renaissance in more recent times, these traditional foodstuffs appear to have been slow to return to our plates. But have offal and organ meats a place in the future of the cuisine, and can the increased consumption of offal and organ meats, produced locally, contribute towards a more sustainable food production system, …

The History Of Dublin Coddle And Its Significance As Part Of Ireland’S Intangible Cultural Heritage, Sinéad Mcglynn, Máirtín Mac Con Iomaire
European Journal of Food Drink and Society
Dublin coddle is held in great affection by generations of Dubliners and is a significant cultural identifier, yet to date there has been little or no academic research into its historical origins. Dublin coddle is a divisive dish which appears to be linked with the capital city, with almost tribal associations, where other ‘tribes’ refuse to consume it. This study argues for the inclusion of Dublin coddle-making, a regional dish made with sausages, ham or bacon, potatoes and onions, as part of Ireland’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) as set out by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). …

Mavar Manga Sodila
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
The aim of this research is to contribute to the documentation of Lomongo, a Bantu language spoken in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In this study, we focused on two morphological aspects of medicinal plant names in Lomongo: nominal morphology and morpho-syntax. To collect data, we engaged with two categories of informants: primary informants (traditional healers) and secondary informants (native Lomongo speakers). Ethnobotanical and ethnolinguistic surveys were conducted in the “Elandisha” Mavaolo area through participant observation, semi-structured interview guides, audio recordings, and photographs. The plants identified were documented in situ with the assistance of botanists from "Matiti-Lisanga," an interdisciplinary …
Decoding Omens From Animal Calls And Sightings: An Ethnozoolinguistic Study Among The Iraqw Of Tanzania, Chrispina Alphonce
Decoding Omens From Animal Calls And Sightings: An Ethnozoolinguistic Study Among The Iraqw Of Tanzania, Chrispina Alphonce
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
Understanding the interplay between cultural beliefs, language, and environmental signals is crucial for comprehending how communities engage with their natural surroundings. Despite existing research on cultural interpretations of natural phenomena, little is known about how animal calls and sightings specifically predict omens within the Iraqw community in Tanzania. This study examines the Iraqw ethnozoolinguistics of omens, focusing on their role in forecasting social events, both positive and negative, and on how these signals reflect the community’s cultural understanding. A qualitative research design was employed, with data collected through introspection, focus group discussions, and semi-structured interviews, grounded in ecosemiotic, ecolinguistic, and …
Morphological And Semantic Analysis Of Plant Names Attested In Hehe Language In Tanzania, Onesmo Simon Nyinondi
Morphological And Semantic Analysis Of Plant Names Attested In Hehe Language In Tanzania, Onesmo Simon Nyinondi
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
This paper examines the morphological structure of plant names in Hehe, a Bantu language spoken in the Iringa Region of Tanzania, specifically in the rural areas of Mufindi and Kilolo districts, involving 169 participants. Data were collected through free listings, field interviews (also known as walk-in-the-woods interviews), focus group discussions, and the analysis of written texts containing Hehe plant names. The study shows that Hehe plant names consist of a noun class prefix and a noun stem, with most falling into the 3/4 and 5/6 pairs. Some plant names are also categorised in the 7/8, mainly small plants, and 9/10 …
Investigating The Plant Folk Taxonomy In The Bena Language Of Tanzania, Adriano Utenga
Investigating The Plant Folk Taxonomy In The Bena Language Of Tanzania, Adriano Utenga
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
This paper surveys plant identification and categorisation among the Bena. Each society’s cultural uniqueness and peculiarity in categorising the local biodiversity informed the study. The researcher conducted the study in Lupembe Ward, Njombe District Council, where Bena is the predominant language. Five elderly speakers of Bena, knowledgeable about plants, were selected through purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Jungle-walk-and-identify and focus group interviews were the key methods for data collection. Using the Perceptual-Taxonomic Theory as a guide, I analysed the data thematically. The study found that the Bena cannot identify the unique beginner “plant” (the all-inclusive word for the notion plant). …

Investigating The Relationship Between Noun Classes And Plant Folk Taxonomy In Chasu Language Of Kilimanjaro Region In Tanzania, Peter Rabson Mziray
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
The current study investigates the relationship between noun classes and plant folk taxonomy in Chasu (G 22). The study focuses on two objectives: the first objective is to describe the plant folk taxonomy in Chasu and the second objective is to determine the relationship between noun classes and plant folk taxonomy in Chasu. Data were collected from rural villages in Same and Mwanga districts by using free listing, field interviews (jungle-walk-and-identify), and written texts containing Chasu plant names. The findings reveal that Chasu folk taxonomy reflects different ethnobotanical categories; including a unique beginner which is mmea/mimea ‘plant(s)’, and three life …

Mozambican Languages And Their Role In Indigenous Ecological Knowledge Preservation: The Case Of Medicinal Plants In Anyungwe Community, Crisófia Langa Da Câmara, Amani Lusekelo
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
Since language is accredited for the preservation and transference of indigenous ecological knowledge (IEK) across generations, this paper presents the findings about the correlation between languages and indigenous knowledge system of the Anyungwe community. Specifically, the paper presents the outcome of the investigation of medicinal plants used by the Anyungwe in Tete Province in Mozambique. The data comes from the Marara area in the Cinyungwe speaking village in Tete Province. Images of medicinal plants were photographed in Tete Province by a research assistant, and their uses were explained by three elders living in Kachembe. Our findings illustrate that IEK studies …
