This research focuses on how sorority members' ideas about beauty relate to their appearance management behaviors in order to gauge how sorority culture contributes to their understanding of physical beauty. The project's main goals are to develop a spectroscopic method for analyzing ceramics to identify phytochemical residues and present the findings of chemical analysis applied to ceramics from the Cape Canaveral archaeological mitigation project (CCAMP). Recognized archaeologically by their distinct material culture, Oneota sites exist in many ecological zones across the Upper Midwest during the late Precontact period, c. 1000-1700 CE. Consequently, the sites are hardly homogenous. Across localities, Oneota groups are recognized as food producers who grew Zea mays (maize), Cucurbita pepo (squash), and later Phaseolus vulgaris (bean). The utilization of other wild and domesticated botanical resources across localities is not as well documented.. The passage of the Hernando de Soto expedition (1539-1543) though the southeastern United States resulted in a scatter of artifacts distributed along the route. These materials were gifted or traded to, or taken by Native Ameri­cans, or were simply lost as Soto and his company moved from place to place. Perishable items such as clothing, fabrics, and wooden objects disappeared long ago. Non-perishable items such as weaponry, chainmail, coins, nails, bells, and a wide array of other metal objects have been recovered by both avocational and professional archae­ologists at scattered sites along the route. Abstract

Few studies of post-Columbian animal economies in the Americas elaborate on the influence of traditional Indigenous knowledge on colonial economies. A vertebrate collection from Santa Elena (1566–87 CE, South Carolina, USA), the original Spanish capital of La Florida, offers the opportunity to examine that influence at the first European-sponsored capital north of Mexico. Santa Elena’s animal economy was the product of dynamic interactions among multiple actors, merging preexisting traditional Indigenous practices, particularly traditional fishing practices, with Eurasian animal husbandry to produce a new cultural form. This article provides a synthesis of the interconnected problems of tenuous energy access, wildfires, and exposures to high air pollution in Indigenous communities in rural California through the lens of ongoing collaborative research being carried out by researchers at Cal Poly Humboldt, Schatz Energy Research Center, Karuk Department of Natural Resources, and the Blue Lake Rancheria Tribe. The Blue Earth Oneota is a poorly defined taxon located in southern Minnesota. Few large-scale excavations have been conducted in the Blue Earth region, leading to gaps in the overall understating of western Oneota lifeway systems. This research utilizes archeozoological analysis on the zoological assemblage from the Vosburg site (21FA02), a Blue Earth Oneota site located in Faribault County. The Vosburg site is a large habitation site that has been excavated by Wilford in 1938 and 1947, Dobbs in 1979, and Schirmer in 2012. Through the analysis of pottery remains found at the Eleanor archaeological site, the study investigates the relationship between the Fox Lake culture and the Havanoid phases. The relationship between the Fox Lake complex of the southwestern prairie area and the Havanoid phases of the eastern woodlands is poorly understood in southern Minnesota. Despite it is potential to provide information about this relationship, the Eleanor site (21NL30) collection was never thoroughly studied after the excavation.

Clark Dobbs’ 1984 dissertation on Blue Earth Oneota settlement patterns is often the go-to treatment for the Blue Earth taxon. Since the publication of his work, new methods of archeological research have been employed within the field and new data have been uncovered from both Blue Earth sites in Minnesota and Oneota sites throughout the Midwest. The purpose of this study is to compare decomposition of animal samples in plowed and unplowed soils. To accomplish this, two sets of three pig (Sus domesticus) ham hocks were buried in soil in early May of 2023, one set in a highly disturbed agricultural field and the other set in an undisturbed forested area. Soybeans were planted in the agricultural field within a week. The samples remained buried until excavated in October 2023 after harvest to compare the extent of decomposition and any other changes that occurred to the surrounding soil. การศึกษาในครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อทำความเข้าใจบทบาทสตรีมุสลิมในการพัฒนาวิสาหกิจชุมชน ตลอดจนการรวมกลุ่ม ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างภายในและภายนอกชุมชน และผลกระทบที่เกิดขึ้นใน 3 ด้าน คือด้านเศรษฐกิจ ด้านสังคม และด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม โดยศึกษาผ่านกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่เป็นสตรีมุสลิมในกลุ่มวิสาหกิจชุมชน จำนวน 10 คน ภายใต้ทฤษฎีสตรีนิยมอิสลาม ร่วมกับแนวคิดเครือข่ายทางสังคม หลักการเศรษฐกิจหมุนเวียน และเป้าหมายการพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืน ผลการศึกษาได้แสดงให้เห็นว่ากลุ่มสตรีมุสลิมพยายามธำรงบทบาทตามที่พระมหาคัมภีร์อัลกุรอานได้ระบุไว้อย่างชัดเจนในด้านบทบาทและสิทธิที่สตรีมุสลิมพึงปฏิบัติที่มากกว่าโลกส่วนตัว หากแต่กลุ่มสตรีมุสลิมได้ก้าวออกมาสู่โลกสาธารณะ การรวมกลุ่มสตรีเพื่อหารายได้และการก้าวขึ้นมาสู่บทบาทของผู้พัฒนาชุมชนที่ได้รับการยอมรับจากคนในชุมชน นอกจากนี้กลุ่มสตรีมุสลิมยังมีการเพิ่มพูนความรู้อยู่อย่างสม่ำเสมอเพื่อพัฒนาทักษะและความสามารถของตนเอง อีกทั้งยังมีการสร้างเครือข่ายทางสังคมทั้งกับคนภายในชุมชนและหน่วยงานภายนอก โดยการปฏิสัมพันธ์กับคนในชุมชนนั้นเป็นความสัมพันธ์ที่เข้มแข็ง มีความเรียบง่าย สนิทสนมและความเป็นเครือญาติกัน จึงให้ความช่วยเหลือซึ่งกันและกันอยู่อย่างเสมอ สำหรับหน่วยงานภายนอกจะทำหน้าที่แจ้งข้อมูลข่าวสารต่างๆ รวมไปถึงการให้ความช่วยเหลือสนับสนุนด้านงบประมาณในการพัฒนาวิสาหกิจชุมชนให้มีศักยภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น ทั้งนี้การเติบโตอย่างมั่นคงและการพัฒนาวิสาหกิจชุมชนอย่างยั่งยืนมีความสอดคล้องกับหลักการเศรษฐกิจหมุนเวียนโดยเมื่อนำมาประยุกต์ใช้กับการพัฒนาวิสาหกิจชุมชนพบว่าได้ก่อให้เกิดผลกระทบต่อชุมชนใน 3 ด้าน ประกอบไปด้วย ด้านเศรษฐกิจคือวิสาหกิจชุมชนมีบทบาทในการส่งเสริมการจ้างงาน การเพิ่มการกระจายรายได้ให้แก่คนในชุมชน การเลือกใช้วัตถุดิบท้องถิ่นมาเพิ่มมูลค่าด้วยการแปรรูป ด้านสังคมมีการดึงการมีส่วนร่วมจากคนในชุมชนอย่างเป็นรูปธรรม และด้านสิ่งแวดล้อมคือลดปัญหาการเกิดขยะ การพยายามอนุรักษ์น้ำ และส่งเสริมความตระหนักด้านสิ่งแวดล้อมแก่คนในชุมชน ซึ่งเป็นไปในทิศทางเดียวกับเป้าหมายการพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืนจำนวน 6 ข้อด้วยกัน ประกอบไปด้วย ข้อที่ 1 ขจัดความยากจน ข้อที่ 2 ขจัดความหิวโหย ข้อที่ 4 การศึกษาที่มีคุณภาพ ข้อที่ 5 ความเท่าเทียมทางเพศ ข้อที่ 8 การจ้างงานที่มีคุณค่าและการเติบโตทางเศรษฐกิจ และข้อที่ 13 การรับมือกับการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ

ปรากฏการณ์สมัยใหม่เรื่องตายที่ปรากฏให้เห็นในบริบทเมืองของไทย โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในพื้นที่กรุงเทพฯ เกิดขึ้นโดยมีลักษณะร่วมหลายประการ คือ (1) เป็นการนำเสนอความตายแบบที่ไม่ใช่เรื่องต้องห้าม (2) มีการใช้เทคโนโลยีดิจิทัล (3) นำความตายไปสอดแทรกในมิติอื่น ๆ ของชีวิตประจำวัน และท้ายที่สุด คือ (4) การใช้ความตายเพื่อตอบโจทย์ใหญ่ของสังคม คือ โจทย์ด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม สังคมสูงวัย และความเป็นปัจเจกที่เพิ่มสูงขึ้น โดยงานวิจัยนี้ศึกษาปรากฏการณ์สมัยใหม่เรื่องตายผ่านหกกรณีศึกษา แบ่งเป็นแพลตฟอร์มพวงหรีดทางเลือกออนไลน์ที่ชี้ให้เห็นถึงการเปลี่ยนความหมายของคุณค่าใหม่ที่สะท้อนความตระหนักถึงความเสี่ยงทางสิ่งแวดล้อม และ ปรากฏการณ์เดธทิวิตี หรือ มรณิจกรรม อันเป็นการเปิดพื้นที่เรื่องตายใหม่ในสังคม โดยทั้งหกกรณีศึกษามีปัจจัยขับเคลื่อนสำคัญ คือ การทำความตายให้เป็นดิจิทัล (digitalization of death) และ การเรียกร้องให้เกิดปฏิสัมพันธ์ต่อความตายแบบใหม่ในฐานะพื้นที่เพื่อการเรียนรู้ภายในตนของปัจเจก (Transformative space) ซึ่งส่งผลให้ปฏิบัติการและการให้ความหมายต่อความตายของคนรุ่นใหม่ โดยเฉพาะในบริบทเมืองเปลี่ยนรูปโฉมไป และค้นพบว่าปรากฏการณ์สมัยใหม่ต้องอาศัยการทำงานร่วมกันของพื้นที่กายภาพและดิจิทัลอย่างแยกจากกันไม่ได้ภายใต้ความเป็นสังคมเครือข่าย (network society) เพราะวัตถุประสงค์และความหมายของปรากฏการณ์จะบรรลุผลได้ก็ต่อเมื่อเกิดขึ้นจากเครือข่ายของพื้นที่ เวลา วัตถุ และข้อมูล ทั้งกายภาพและดิจิทัลนั่นเอง ท้ายที่สุด การเกิดขึ้นของปรากฏการณ์สมัยใหม่เรื่องตายอาจกำลังชี้ให้เห็นถึงภูมิทัศน์ความตาย (Deathscape) ที่กำลังเปลี่ยนไป และชี้ให้เห็นว่าคนรุ่นใหม่ไม่ได้ละเลยความตาย แต่กำลังเรียกร้องการเรียนรู้เรื่องตายในรูปแบบใหม่ที่ต้องอาศัยการประกอบขึ้นจากดิจิทัล การสร้างประสบการณ์ที่เป็นส่วนตัวมิดชิด และตอบโจทย์คุณค่าใหม่ของสากล

In India, where elementary education is a fundamental right, significant barriers stall the attainment of educational equity through linguistic inclusivity. This article explores student identities by examining intersections of language, caste, race, and socioeconomic class to make visible complexities of privilege, discrimination, and connections between social structure, identity, and language in education. The purpose of this thesis is to determine what can be learned about the people living near the Ilopango Volcano during the Classic period of Mesoamerican history by conducting a figurative analysis of the living subjects depicted on the ceramics and figurines excavated from the area, to determine what, if any, relationship the people there had with the volcano. Two open-air residential basecamp sites at Mount Rainier, the Buck Lake site and the Sunrise Ridge Borrow Pit site, are analyzed and compared using a protocol designed to identify variation in stone tool manufacture and use. This research employs a model rooted in evolutionary archaeology theory. The model uses the variables of cost and performance to measure lithic variation, which is often subtle, across space and time. Selective conditions differ over time at the two sites’ locations and appear to drive lithic variation in the archaeological record. The Grissom site of central Washington was excavated 1967-71 by students and faculty from Central Washington State College. The site may represent a portion of a large, springtime intertribal gathering near Kittitas known as Che-lo-han, which involved camas root gathering, tribal councils, and social activities. Recent advances in 3-D scanning and printing offer the means for experimental archaeologists to utilize reproductions of artifacts for analysis and interpretation. In this case study I accurately reproduce a sample of Columbia Plateau projectile points, measure their ballistic properties with an experimental approach, and test the effectiveness and function of point types representing different time periods. Eight morphologically distinct projectile points were 3-D scanned, printed, and test fired into a clay target. Velocity, kinetic energy, momentum, penetration, and wound channel size were measured. However, there exists great variation in how textbooks present this material and address these standards. Using a qualitative content analysis approach, we assess the presentation of Africa in three widely used Georgia social studies textbooks. We document and analyze coverage of Africa across Georgia’s seventh grade world studies learning domains. Objective: This is a meta-analysis focused on the success rates of scent detection canines and potential factors that could influence their accuracy. A series of statistical analyses were conducted to determine if certain demographic factors, such as the dog’s gender, age, and breed, have an effect on a scent dog’s accuracy during a search. Or if more circumstantial factors, like the dog’s level of experience in scent work, the type of target scent, and their handler’s awareness of the target’s location, affect the outcome of the search.
