The Effect Of Rangeland Quality On The Mohair Quality Of Angora Goats Fed On The Natural Rangelands, Betül Zehra Sariçi̇çek
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the rangeland quality of Ankara goats fed on some natural rangeland in Ankara on the mohair quality. The research was carried out in 3 different quality natural rangelands in Ankara province. Crude protein, ether extract, Ca, Fe, N, energy contents and digestibility, in vitro gas production, and relative feed values of good quality rangeland plants were the highest compared to other rangelands, but the crude fiber, acid detergent fiber, and neutral detergent fiber were the lowest (p < 0.05). In the study were used a total of 120 animals (20 males, 20 females in each farm) from 3 farms where Angora goats are raised in the region of rangelands. The mohair quality was determined in mohair samples taken from 6 month old, 1.5, and 2.5-yearold animals. Rangeland quality significantly affected mohair lengths, fineness, elasticity, tenacity, and clean mohair yield, in males and females (p < 0.05). The highest values were obtained from goats fed good quality rangeland (p < 0.05). The effect of age on these features was also important. The mohair quality (length, elasticity, tenacity) increased with increasing age (p < 0.05). The effect of the rangeland quality on the nozzle number was not significant, but the effect of age was significant. and, the nozzles number increased with increasing age. The nozzle depth was affected by the rangeland quality and age. The nozzle depth has increased due to the increase in rangeland quality and age. While the mohair Ca, Mg, S, Fe, and N content of male and female goats were higher in goats fed on good quality rangeland, these were lower in goats fed low-quality rangeland (p < 0.05). While mohair Na content positively affected rangeland quality in females (p < 0.01), was insignificant in males.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of limestone replacement with dietary micro-calcium carbonate (MCC) on performance, egg quality, and serum Ca metabolism in peak-phase laying hens. A total of 120 laying hens (30 wk of age) were assigned to 1 control or 4 treatment groups for 8 weeks. Half of the total limestone was replaced by calcite in different particle sizes in the treatment groups (1, 20, 40, and 100 µm) and by fine limestone (~2 mm) in control. During the experiment, egg production and mass decreased (p < 0.05); however, eggshell thickness increased in hens fed with calcite groups compared to the control fed birds. There was a contrast between control vs. treatment, and a negative linear trend (p = 0.11) with the particle sizes for feed conversion ratio (FCR) was recorded. The different particle size of calcite had no effect on feed consumption, egg quality parameters, and hematology parameters of serum. However, the serum calcium (p = 0.01) and vitamin D (p < 0.0001) levels were affected by calcite, serum parathyroid hormone, calcitonin, phosphorus levels, and Ca:P ratio were not affected. The effects of dietary calcite sources may differ from conventional or nano-sized calcium carbonate sources in laying hens, especially for Vit D metabolism.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In this study, the effect of buck presence on serum progesterone, estrogen and FSH levels during the premating in 20 female Akkeçi goats was investigated. The goats were assigned to two groups as follows: control group (n = 10) and treatment group (n = 10). At the beginning of study, first blood samples (day 0) were taken from each goat kept isolated away from bucks at mating season. At day 13, female goats in treatment group were placed in a pen next to, that of bucks in order to provide buck effect. Second blood samples were taken from each does …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Mucopolysaccharidosis IIID (MPS IIID) or Sanfilippo D syndrome is an inherited lysosomal storage disease and caused by a deficiency of the N-acetylglucosamine-6-sulfatase activity, which involves in the catabolism of heparan sulfate. In addition to humans, canine, feline and murine, goats have been reported as possessing this lysosomal storage disease. The molecular defect in the MPS IIID goat has been previously identified. It has been observed that a molecular base for this defect is a nonsense mutation at nucleotide 322 (C→T) results in the change of the arginine codon to a stop codon. This mutation is not only to be related …

Serum lysozyme gene empowers the immune system due to its bacteriolytic property targeting peptidoglycan layer of cell wall. Polymorphs of serum lysozyme gene are reported to be significantly associated with disease resistance traits. Two different gene fragments viz. fragment I (275 bp) and fragment II (230 bp) of serum lysozyme gene were amplified and screened by polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) technique to identify genetic variation in two different goat breeds (Barbari and Marwari) of India. The serum lysozyme activity of different genotypes and mRNA expression across the breed was also estimated. In fragment I, four genotypes (AA, …

Effect Of Clinical Doses Of Buserelin On In Vivo Bovine Uterine Activity At Estrus, Halef Doğan, Muhterem Aydin
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
For successful fertilization, a transfer system named "rapid sperm transport" generated by uterine contractions plays a crucial role. The purpose of this in vivo study was to investigate the effect of buserelin, a GnRH agonist widely used for ovulation induction after mating or artificial insemination, on bovine uterine contractility which supports rapid sperm transport at estrus. In vivo uterine contractile activity was measured by intrauterine pressure recording technique. In the study, the spontaneous uterine contractile activities of 28 cows at estrus were observed for 30 min. The cows were randomly divided into 4 treatment groups which have 7 cows each …

Genetic Relationships Of Thrace And Yığılca Honey Bee Populations Based Onmicrosatellite Structure, Meral Kekeçoğlu, Emel Özkan Ünal, Mehmet İhsan Soysal
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Thrace and Yığılca honey bees, two important honey bee ecotypes in apicultural activity of Turkey, are the subject of genetic conservation effort. In this study, the genetic structure and diversity of honey bee populations from Thrace and Yığılca were investigated using 27 microsatellites. Except Kırklareli and Yığılca (Fst: 0.14), it was observed lower genetic divergence between the populations based on the value of pairwise Fst. Although Thrace populations (Edirne, Tekirdağ and Kırklareli) were not fully separated from each other, Yığılca population was significantly separated from Kırklareli and separated slightly from the rest of other populations. The calculated gene diversity of …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In this study, production performance, stress, and immunity levels of native Turkish and imported commercial laying hens were investigated in two different cage densities. In the trial, a total of 06 groups were formed by using two different cage densities (312.50 and 468.75 cm$^{2}$/hen) on each of 03 different laying hen hybrids of Isa Brown (IB), Atak-S (A-S) and Novogen White (NW). The trial was carried out with 09 replicates in each group having 10 birds per replicate making 540 birds in total. Water and feed were provided as ad libitum. It was found that the native hybrid showed lower …
