Amphibians And Reptiles Of Vigo County, Indiana, David Rubin May 1965

Amphibians And Reptiles Of Vigo County, Indiana, David Rubin

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Vigo County, Indiana is an extremely interesting area for herpetological studyo Its geographical location allows for the interplay of faunal elements from east, west, north, and south (Smith and minton, 1957) and its physiography permits investigation of the relations of terrain and glacial geology to herpetofaunal distribution. Blatchley (1891, 1899) published two papers on the amphibians and reptiles of the county and Allyn and Shockley (1938) reported on the county's salamandersa The present paper has the following objectives: to determine which species occur or have recently occurred in Vigo County; to determine amphibian and reptile distribution in the county; to …

Production Differences Between Registered Cows And Their Nonregistered Herd-Mates, L. Dale Van Vleck, J. D. Burke Feb 1965

Production Differences Between Registered Cows And Their Nonregistered Herd-Mates, L. Dale Van Vleck, J. D. Burke

Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications

Within-herd contemporary comparisons of the first-lactation production of registered and nonregistered cows in herds enrolled in the New York Dairy Herd Improvement Associations suggest only small genetic differences between registered and nonregistered cows. In general, the registered Holsteins exceeded in production their nonregistered herd-mates, whereas the nonregistered cows had a slight advantage over their registered herd-mates for the Ayrshire, Guernsey, and Jersey breeds.

Artificially sired cows had consistently higher production than their naturally sired herd-mates for all breeds. A definite increase in this advantage was noted for Holsteins in more recent years. No trend was apparent in the comparison of …

Observations On The Biology, Anatomy, And Morphology Of Otobius Lagophilus Cooley And Kohls, C. Selby Herring, D Elden Beck

Brigham Young University Science Bulletin, Biological Series

The principal objective of this study is to bring up to date information on geographic distribution, seasonal occurrence, and host-parasite relationship of O. lagophilus in western North America. Notes on life history and disease transmission potential are included.

Data and information were obtained from three sources: (1) natural history collections and field records at Brigham Young University over the past twenty years; (2) the Rocky Mountain Laboratory in Hamilton, Montana; and (3) published literature.

All available collection records are presented in a table from which information on geographic distribution, seasonal occurrence, and host-parasite relationship was extracted. O. lagophilus is known …
