Records Of Bats From Western North Dakota, J. Knox Jones Jr., Hugh H. Genoways
University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers
From June 16 to 19 and again from June 24 to 29, 1965, a field party from the Museum of Natural History of The University of Kansas collected mammals along the Little Missouri River at a place 1 mi. S and 1 mi. W Medora, Billings Co., North Dakota. Among the specimens collected were representatives of five kinds of bats, including one species unreported from North Dakota, a subspecies unrecorded from there, and two species known previously from the state by a single specimen each.

Northward Dispersal Of The Hispid Cotton Rat In Nebraska And Missouri, Hugh H. Genoways, Duane A. Schlitter
Northward Dispersal Of The Hispid Cotton Rat In Nebraska And Missouri, Hugh H. Genoways, Duane A. Schlitter
University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers
Cockrum (1948 : 306-312 and 1952 : 184-187) summarized the northward movement of the hispid cotton rat, Sigmodon hispidus texianus, in Kansas. He showed that between 1933 and 1947 the cotton rat extended its distribution northward approximately 100 miles-from Greenwood and Allen counties north to Brown County, an average distance of seven miles per year. As of 1952, the northernmost record for the species was 5 mi. S Hiawatha, Brown County (obtained 29 November 1947), in northeastern Kansas. Trapping between 1945 and 1947 in Mitchell, Norton, and Thomas counties, in the central and western parts of northern Kansas, and …

Gonadotropic Hormone Activity In Blood And Placental Tissue Of The Bovine Early In Gestation, John E. Lunnen
Gonadotropic Hormone Activity In Blood And Placental Tissue Of The Bovine Early In Gestation, John E. Lunnen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Certain mammalian species have been shown to secrete extra-pituitary gonadotropins. In humans the chorionic cells of the placenta secrete a gonadotropin and in pregnant mares such a hormone is secreted by the endometrial cups. Gonadotropins of placental origin have also been observed in the rat.

A Cytological Study Of Certain Life Cycle Stage Of Eimeria Bovis, John V. Ernst
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Although much research has been done on the bovine coccidia little has been reported on the cytological nature of the different stages. Few descriptions of cytoplasmic structures occur in the literature. Because of the impermeability of the oocyst wall a definitive study of the nucleus in the unsporulated oocyst has not been made, nor have the nuclear changes during the two successive divisions which occur during the process of sporulation been described.
The Use Of Amprolium In Controlling Coccidiosis In Lambs, Joseph E. Kuta
The Use Of Amprolium In Controlling Coccidiosis In Lambs, Joseph E. Kuta
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Young lambs are subject to severe infections with coccidiosis, which cause weight loss, morbidity, woolbreaking, and death (Christensen, 1940b; Shumard, 1957; Lotze, 1959; Smith et al., 1960). Dunlap et al. (1949) have shown that the adult sheep are reservoir hosts and are a constant source of infection to lambs. Outbreaks of coccidial infections, especially under feedlot conditions, are frequent (Newsom and Cross, 1931; Piras, 1934; Deem and Thorp, 1940; Mahrt and Sherrick, 1965).
Immunity To Ostertagiasis In Calves, Leo F. Lejambre
Immunity To Ostertagiasis In Calves, Leo F. Lejambre
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Parasites are responsible for heavy economic loss to the livestock industry. The losses in cattle due to parasitism can only be roughly estimated, since many cattle do not die or become visibly sick. However, there are more subtle losses such as reduced growth rate, and decreased meat and milk production (Levine, 1961). In 1954 the U. S. Department of Agriculture published an estimate of the losses in agriculture over the 10 year period, 1942-1951. At that time, the best judgement of specialists in the Department of Agriculture placed the annual loss to parasitism in cattle at $19,026,000 of which $8,989,000 …
