Growth Potential Of Sandhills Ranches Through Irrigation, R. D. Carver, G. A. Helmers Jan 1975

Growth Potential Of Sandhills Ranches Through Irrigation, R. D. Carver, G. A. Helmers

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

The purpose of this study was to compare extensive and intensive growth strategies of a typical Nebraska Sandhills ranch in a dynamic and uncertain environment. Study objectives were to: (1) Analyze growth of an average ranch firm of 450 animal units as it grows to 600-900 animal units. (2) Study the effects of an uncertain environment on the long-run growth opportunities of a ranch firm. (3) Compare extensive and intensive growth of a ranch firm.

Heg75-12 Nebraska Master Mix, Harriet Kohn Jan 1975

Heg75-12 Nebraska Master Mix, Harriet Kohn

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

The Nebraska Master Mix can be used to make many dishes easily. The homemade mix offers the advantage, over bought mixes, of choosing your own combination of ingredients. For example, you may want to try the whole wheat version with margarine for a deliciously different mix. Simple meals and leftovers can be sparked up by adding a homemade hotbread or other food made from the Nebraska Master Mix.

The Nebraska Master Mix is lower in fat than some but gives very good results. Sugar has been reduced in some of the recipes, but other ingredients have been used to enhance …

G75-232 Cow-Calf Herd Health Program Basics, Dale Grotelueschen, Duane Rice Jan 1975

G75-232 Cow-Calf Herd Health Program Basics, Dale Grotelueschen, Duane Rice

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This NebGuide suggests ideas and discusses some basic essentials of health management in beef cow operations.

Establishing a good cow-calf herd health program is a necessary step if profit is to be realized. Managing disease risk is an important aspect of a good health program design. Vaccinations help reduce the probability of disease but cannot solely be depended upon for prevention. Well-designed herd health programs address multiple areas of management in order to reduce likelihood of disease outbreaks. The objective of any beef herd health program should be to profitably produce calves having optimum weaning weights from a high percentage …

G75-269 Calf Scours: Causes, Prevention And Treatment, Don Hudson, R. Gene White Jan 1975

G75-269 Calf Scours: Causes, Prevention And Treatment, Don Hudson, R. Gene White

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Calf scours or calf diarrhea: understand how to recognize and treat this costly condition. Calf scours or calf diarrhea causes more financial loss to cow-calf producers than any other disease-related problem they encounter. Calf scours is not a disease--it is a clinical sign of a disease which can have many causes. In diarrheas, the intestine fails to absorb fluids and/or secretion into the intestine is increased.

Extracts From The Department Of Agriculture's Annual Report, 1974-75, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

The Department of Agriculture's Annual Report for the year ended June 30, 1975, took the form of short reviews of selected activities of the Department during the year.

Some of these reviews are reprinted below to give an idea of the range of activities undertaken by the Department. A limited number of copies of the full report are available to interested organisations from the Department of Agriculture, Jarrah Road, South Perth, 6151.

In past years the Department's report has taken the form of a relatively detailed technical summary of the work of each Division. Because of the large volume of …

A Descriptive Analysis Of The Curriculum In Vocational Agriculture In Selected Public High Schools In Nebraska (For The School Year 1972–73), Dona M. Siekmon Aug 1974

A Descriptive Analysis Of The Curriculum In Vocational Agriculture In Selected Public High Schools In Nebraska (For The School Year 1972–73), Dona M. Siekmon

Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

The purpose of the study was to determine content and emphasis placed on identified units of instruction provided by the Vocational Agriculture Departments in Nebraska. The overall hypothesis of the study was to determine the relationship, if any, between teachers as community factors and the amounts of instruction in subject matter units offered in Vocational Agriculture. Data was collected at a summer conference in which 112 out of 147 instructors in Nebraska filled out the questionnaire. The five categories of the curriculum surveyed were: (1) Animal Science. (2) Agricultural Management and

Economics, (3) Agronomic Science, (4) Agricultural Mechanics, and (5) …

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

This bulletin describes nutrient and energy composition of beef cattle waste fractions as a function of the ration roughage level and type of feedlot. Results can be used to plan engineering system approaches and research to develop handling and processing equipment necessary for recovery of the most valuable portion of waste.

Economic Feasibility Of Controlling Big Sagebrush (Artemisia Tridentata) On State And Private Rangelands In Utah, Stan D. Hinckley May 1974

Economic Feasibility Of Controlling Big Sagebrush (Artemisia Tridentata) On State And Private Rangelands In Utah, Stan D. Hinckley

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Spraying with the chemical herbicide 2,4-D is the most widely used method of controlling big sagebrush. Spraying is very effective in increasing forage production and generally is not poisonous to either man or animals.

Two procedures can be used to calculate the internal rate of return to big sagebrush control: standard and modified discounting. Standard discounting assumes all nonuse costs are incurred in the year of treatment, and the annual income stream is constant throughout the effective life of treatment. Modified discounting correctly assumes the nonuse cost is incurred in the period of deferment, and the income stream does not …

G74-117 Alfalfa In Swine Diets (Revised November 1988), Duane Reese, D. Murray Danielson

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Nebraska ranks first in dehydrated alfalfa meal and seventh in alfalfa hay production in the United States, with production in all counties of the state. With this availability of alfalfa, its use in swine diets should be considered.

The performance and economic considerations of alfalfa in swine diets are detailed here, and information on mixing diets is provided.
