Nebraska Farm Real Estate Market Developments 1992-93, Bruce Johnson
Nebraska Farm Real Estate Reports
For the Sixth Consecutive year, Nebraska's agricultural real estate values rose in 1992. According to the 1993 UNL Nebraska Farm Real Estate Market Survey, the increase was just over 4 percent for the year ending February 1, 1993. Still, the 1993 all-state average value remains 30 percent below the peak level of value reached in 1981.
Not all areas of the state experienced land increases during 1992. All-land average values remained essentially unchanged during 1992 in the northwest, north, and southwest areas of Nebraska while gains of 5 to 7 percent were recorded in the eastern third of the state …

Competitive Interaction Between Crested Wheatgrasses And Cheatgrass, Mark G. Francis
Competitive Interaction Between Crested Wheatgrasses And Cheatgrass, Mark G. Francis
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Current revegetation practices in the lntermountain West include the use of Nordan (Agropyron desertorum) and Hycrest (A. cristatum x desertorum) crested wheatgrass on rangeland susceptible to cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum) invasion, although little quantitative data exists that compares their competitive abilities. We evaluated both the competitive ability of Hycrest and Nordan in two-species mixtures with cheatgrass, and evaluated seedling establishment characteristics for all three species in a greenhouse study. Linear and nonlinear models were developed for a range of densities for each species to predict median above-ground biomass and tiller numbers. In both experiments, increasing …

Salinity - An Albany Perspective, Mandy Curnow
Salinity - An Albany Perspective, Mandy Curnow
Natural resources published reports
This booklet has been put together as an introduction to salinity in the Albany, Denmark, and Plantagenet districts. As much local information has been included as possible, so that the booklet will relate to your situation. The booklet looks at the causes of salinity and bow to recognise it. Included also, are methods of measuring salt in water and soil, both in the laboratory and the field. Methods of controlling salinity and reversing rising ground waters are not covered as there are already so many publications dealing with this topic.
Most agricultural areas experience some Ievel of salinity. Controlling salinity, …
Rural Flies In The Urban Environment?, Gustave D. Thomas, Steven R. Skoda
Rural Flies In The Urban Environment?, Gustave D. Thomas, Steven R. Skoda
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
Because metropolitan areas in the United States have been expanding at a dramatic rate, there has been direct competition between rural and urban interests for land. Also, market pressures often make it most profitable for meat producers to locate as close to urban centers as possible. A resultant growing interface between rural and urban centers, coupled with inadequate understanding of the people between the two centers, provides a potential for problems to develop. This book generally summarizes one area of contention - flies: few people tolerate flies in any setting anymore.

Honeybee Pollination Of Crops, Lee Allan, V. Kesvan, G. Kleinschmidt, P. Anning
Bulletins 4000 -
Pollination of horticultural and agricultural crops is being recognised throughout Australia by quality growers who wish to improve crop quality and quantity, to increase their returns from produce sold on local and export markets. Some growers are able to target specific high value markets using planned pollination to maximise their income.

Officers, committee chairpersons, and others leading the chapter are faculty or alumni.

G93-1159 Feedlot Lameness, Dee Griffin, Louis Perino, Don Hudson
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide discusses the causes, treatment and prevention of lameness in feedlot cattle.
Lameness in feedlot cattle is a serious economic problem. There are many causes for lameness. It is important that the problem be diagnosed correctly and treated quickly to minimize economic losses.

G93-1177 Feeding And Managing Holstein Steers, Rick J. Grant, Rick Stock, Terry L. Mader
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide discusses feeding and management practices to maximize feedlot performance, carcass quality, and profitability of Holstein steers. Holstein Steers vs Conventional Breeds Holstein steers usually are placed in the feedlot either as light-weight (250 to 350 pounds) calves or as feeders (600 to 800 pounds). The growth of Holstein feeder steers is generally more consistent than for conventional beef breeds.

G93-1170 Bacteria In Milk Sources And Control, Gerald R. Bodman, Duane N. Rice
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Bacterial contamination reduces the quality of milk and can cause serious health problems. This NebGuide discusses common causes of contamination as well as prevention.
Bacteria are single-cell organisms that multiply by dividing to form two cells (a process known as mitosis). Under optimum conditions, many bacteria can double in number each 20 minutes. That means one bacterium can result in up to 16,000,000 bacteria in just eight hours. They are microscopic in size, i.e., an individual bacterium cannot be seen without the aid of a microscope. They are so small that a single drop of water from a cow's udder …
