An Evaluation Of Heart Rate Monitoring With In-Ear Microphones Under Motion, Kayla-Jade Butkow, Ting Dang, Andrea Ferlini, Dong Ma, Yang Liu, Cecilia Mascolo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

With the soaring adoption of in-ear wearables, the research community has started investigating suitable in-ear heart rate detection systems. Heart rate is a key physiological marker of cardiovascular health and physical fitness. Continuous and reliable heart rate monitoring with wearable devices has therefore gained increasing attention in recent years. Existing heart rate detection systems in wearables mainly rely on photoplethysmography (PPG) sensors, however, these are notorious for poor performance in the presence of human motion. In this work, leveraging the occlusion effect that enhances low-frequency bone-conducted sounds in the ear canal, we investigate for the first time in-ear audio-based motion-resilient …

Introduction: One of the main complications of spine tuberculosis is the instability produced by the injury of the articular structures between the vertebrae as well as the adjacent tissues, which, depending on the degree of involvement, can lead to angular kyphosis with the consequent risk of neurological impairment that can end with paraplegia. While the criteria for vertebral instability secondary to tuberculosis were identified and the pathophysiological processes that determine the progression of kyphosis following tuberculosis were deter mined, there is no new criteria, following Rajasekaran’s 2001 work, which demon strated which imaging signs could predict a kyphosis progression in …

Digital Mental Health Outreach Program For Older Adults Gavin, Vincent D. Pham, Gavin E. Jacob, Paige Piazza

Research & Creative Achievement Day

Within this literature review, the effectiveness of digital mental health outreach programs for older adults will be examined. With the aging global population continuing to grow larger each year, mental health concerns among older adults have gained more attention than ever. To address these concerns, digital mental health outreach programs have been put in place with the goal of providing older adults with a real person they can regularly talk to and receive advice or recommendations from. This review uses existing research along with tangible real-world experiences to determine the impact these services have on the older adults who utilize …

The Future Role Of Cytologists Regarding Telecytology And Rapid On-Site Evaluation (Rose), A Meta-Narrative Review, James Jeffery Fretwell, Liam Patrick Farley, Melissa Perez, Mary Coolbaugh Murphy PhD, Denise Juroske Short PhD 2024 The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

The Future Role Of Cytologists Regarding Telecytology And Rapid On-Site Evaluation (Rose), A Meta-Narrative Review, James Jeffery Fretwell, Liam Patrick Farley, Melissa Perez, Mary Coolbaugh Murphy Phd, Denise Juroske Short Phd

Research Methods Poster Session 2024

The use of Telecytology in conjunction with rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) is currently at the forefront of discussion among cytologists and cytopathologists. In this meta-narrative review, the advancements of Telecytology and ROSE within the discipline of Cytology are discussed. Advancements in telecytology and ROSE enable off-site cytology slide evaluation and diagnosis through digital image transfer. ROSE allows for preliminary cytological assessment during image-guided biopsy procedures to determine specimen adequacy. The meta-narrative review concluded that the combination of these two technologies increases the efficacy of patient diagnosis without sacrificing the quality of patient care.

Measuring The Impact Of Primary Care Team Composition On Patient Activation Utilizing Electronic Health Record Big Data Analytics, Kristen K. Will, Yue Liang, Chih-Lin Chi, Gerri Lamb, Michael Todd, Connie Delaney

Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews

Purpose

Team-based care has been linked to key outcomes associated with the Quadruple Aim and a key driver of high-value patient-centered care. Use of the electronic health record (EHR) and machine learning have significant potential to overcome previous barriers to studying the impact of teams, including delays in accessing data to improve teamwork and optimize patient outcomes.

Methods

This study utilized a large EHR dataset (n = 316,542) from an urban health system to explore the relationship between team composition and patient activation, a key driver of patient engagement. Teams were operationalized using consensus definitions of teamwork from the literature. …

Skeletal dysplasia encompasses a spectrum of over 400 rare inheritable skeletal abnormalities typically manifested early in childhood. Hypertrophic Osteoarthropathy is a clinical syndrome marked by abnormal skin and osseous tissue proliferation at the distal extremities. It is characterized by unique clinical features such as digital clubbing, periostosis of tubular bones, and synovial effusions.

We report three cases of HPOA for further understanding and insight into this infrequent cause of clubbing. Case 1 involved a 25-year-old male presenting with joint pain, primarily in wrists and knees, accompanied by progressive swelling in both lower limbs for the past 3 years. Case 2 …

Background: Interactive dashboards are a powerful tool for dynamic visualization and monitoring of patient performance and serve as a useful to for optimal decision-making. The National Spinal Column and Cord Injury Registry of Iran (NSCIR-IR) was designed to efficiently display and broadcast important patient care data. This has been achieved through an electronic dashboard display (graph and visual displays), rather than traditional static paper reports (text). Objectives: The objective of this study was to design and develop an electronic visual dashboard as a display system to monitor the quality of care in the NSCIR-IR collaborating centers. Methods: The indicators chosen …

Building For Safety: Design Considerations For Refuge Areas In Tall Buildings From Quality Management Perspective, Enass. A. Salama, Heba. M. Gaber, Ahmed. M. Selim

Journal of Engineering Research

New El Alamein City is one of the largest urban projects in Egypt, and the largest project on the north coast. Tall buildings (super high-rise buildings) are considered the prevailing trend by architectural designers to obtain the maximum view of the Mediterranean Sea. The provision of safety evacuation in emergencies for these buildings’ occupants is a crucial challenge from the Quality management point of view. In contrast, there are no sufficient architectural design guidelines for the tall buildings provided by the Egyptian code for protecting buildings from fire, especially the design of the refuge areas. This study aims to investigate …
