As the older adult population grows in the United States, the need for community planning approaches that respond to the needs of older adults is of increasing importance. As a result, lifelong community movements, encompassing models such as Age-Friendly Communities, Livable Communities, and “Aging-in-Place” initiatives are proliferating. Maine, the oldest state by median age, currently hosts the largest number of AARP designated Age-Friendly Communities efforts (currently at 69 communities). The University of Maine Center on Aging in partnership with the Maine Community Foundation hosted a special learning and networking event specifically designed for lifelong communities (LC) initiatives. Workforce Housing Design Charrette In York, Maine, Workforce Housing Coalition Of The Greater Seacoast, Maine Community Foundation

The Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast organized a workforce housing design charrette in the community of York, Maine. The event was held over a two-day period, October 15 and 17, 2014. The process included a site walk, community dialogue session, and design workshop, culminating in a design reveal on October 17, 2014. This, the Coalition’s fifth annual design charrette, produced conceptual designs for the development of workforce housing opportunities on the subject sites located in the U.S. Route 1 and Vacation Drive vicinity of York, Maine.

The Wiscasset Bath Road Master Plan seeks to maximize development opportunities along Bath Road through the strategic coordination of traffic infrastructure improvements, land use policies and design standards while maintaining or improving the mobility and safety of U.S. Route 1. By planning for growth, Bath Road will increase safety, reduce congestion and enhance the visual character. Ultimately, this Master Plan is intended to help Wiscasset (the Town) shape a future for Bath Road and surrounding areas that reflects the needs and values of the community and preserves the Midcoast Region’s most important arterial highway.
