The fantastic (le fantastique) is a literary genre that originated from France, which has a specific characteristic of an ambiguous event that cannot be found in other literary works from other countries that introduce similar genres. This study discusses the translation strategies used to translate these fantastic events in Venus dari Kota Ille, the Indonesian translation version of the fantastic story of La Vénus d'Ille by Mérimée (1837). We often think of architecture as distinct buildings, yet as we move through the city we continuously pass through a built environment that is a collage of buildings. These spaces between buildings are underestimated as influences on our experience of everyday life in the city. Considering architecture as linked existential experiences through spaces rather than confined to individual buildings is more in line with our experience of the city as a series of interconnected spaces and places. New Orleans in 1878 was the most exotic and cosmopolitan city in North America. An international port, with more than 200,000 inhabitants, it was open to French, Spanish, Mexican, South American, and West Indian cultural influences, and home to a thriving population descended from free African Americans.
