With the aging of the baby boomers there is a concern for the liklihood of an increase in reported cases of adult and dependent abuse with Adult Protective Services (APS). This study examined what the social work implications were regarding clients who refuse APS interventions and what subsequent outcomes existed. Data was extracted from closed case files for the period of January 1, 2000 and January 31, 2001 in the high desert region of San Bernardino County.

Achieving integrity involves making sense of disparate aspects of one's life and seing life as one complete whole, rather than bits and pieces of a puzzle. Integrity is achieved when each part of the puzzle is put into place, forming one complete picture.

America's growing elder population affects every segment of the social, political and economic landscape. This population has generated public concern and debate reagarding the problems faced by this often-vulnerable group, including the issue of elder abuse. This research project examined associations between dementia and elder abuse in domestic settings utilizing secondary data obtained from Adult Protective Services of San Bernardino County.

The purpose of this study was to build on previous descriptive research on grandparents' experiences of stress in raising their grandchildren. The research method used was a qualitative approach. The goal in utilizing a qualitative approach lay in a desire to understand the unique stress experience of grandfathers and grandmothers in raising their grandchildren, as they live it and feel it.

The study investigated the relationship between San Bernardino County Department of Adult Protective Services (APS) client refusal of services and the outcome of their cases. A data extraction tool was used to collect demographic information about the APS clients and their perpetrators, types and number of contacts made by the APS worker, types of abuse, reasons for refusal, and outcomes from closed APS cases for the San Bernardino, Ontario, and Rancho Cucamonga regions.

This project was an assessment of elderly health care needs and access. Three urban San Bernardino communities in zip codes 92405, 92410, and 92411 were targeted. The assessment was structured according to King's theoretical construction of community as a multilevel interaction between personal, interpersonal and social systems. The components of the assessment included digital photographs, web-based internet assessments, key informant interviews, and community business visits.

As the older population increases, there is a need for increased support for caregivers most of them older themselves. Owning a pet may providesome of this support. This study looked at caregivers age 55 and older of brain-impaired adults and examined whether or not the social support provided by pets during the caregiving time contributes to their well-being.
