This presentation will outline the results of a quantitative, non-experimental study conducted with students at a faith-based university in the US to explore the levels of food insecurity on its campus. Community needs assessments often fail to include the voices of underrepresented groups. Student and faculty research teams analyzed qualitative data from nine focus groups and 364 qualitative survey responses. Using a constant comparative methodology, findings explore the aspirations, challenges, and solutions from these community groups.

Growth Mindset And Effect On Black Students’ Academic Achievement In The Iowa City Community School District, Starr Davis

The purpose of this study was to examine how growth mindset affect’s Black students’ academic achievement in the Iowa City Community School District. Using survey data from the Iowa City Community School District, the researchers determined the students’ academic achievement by examining their mindsets. The findings of the study showed that fixed mindsets are detrimental to students’ academic achievement, while growth mindset enhances the achievement levels in Black students.

The purpose of this literature review is to address how internalized and externalized behaviors in adolescents impact academic achievement in faith-based institutions. This research intends to bring awareness to the prevalence of mental health concerns faced by adolescents, as well as the need for mental health services in the education system. This research will also identify the relationship between internalizing and externalizing behaviors, and academic achievement. This presentation offers an overview of three studies dealing with pastor family stress in the North American Division. Using these large-scale endeavors as a case study, the research team delineates the study outcomes, the known ways that these data have driven system change, and enumerates barriers that prevent data from having greater impacts in the SDA Church.

Six months post-hurricane Maria, a group of 20 Andrews University students and faculty went on a Mental Health mission trip to Puerto Rico. Students and faculty from the Social Work department presented various techniques of self-care for adults and children, on a physical, emotional, social, and spiritual levels.
