The purpose of this study is to identify the demographic variables that distinguish recidivistic families, those that have received three or more DCFS (Department of Child and Family Services) re-referrals over a one-year period, from other families. Child welfare service recidivism is a historically expensive and socially damaging issue that should be further researched.

The United States military has set up a unique platform in which to research organizational policies that help balance their employees' work and family lives. The goal of this study was to research the indirect effects of work-family conflict (both work-to-family and family-to-work conflict) with the predictors family organization fit, family supportive organization perceptions, and perceptions of organization benefits offered on the outcomes of organizational commitment, turnover intention, and marital tension.

This thesis centers on establishing the relationship between a parent's employment status and the impact the loss of funding from CalWORKs Stage 3 childcare funding might have on child abuse. CalWORKs Stage 3 funding was installed in 1997 as a safety net for families to receive subsidized childcare for working parents if the household is below 75% of the state median income and the children are under the age of 13 and eliminated in November 2010. The purpose of this study was to address social workers concerns associated with the loss of this funding.

The purpose of this study was to examine participants' perceptions on the effectiveness of the "Parents in Partnership" program (PIP) of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. Parents in Partnership (PIP) is a collaborative effort between the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and parent partner paraprofessionals toward facilitation of safe reunification and permanency through education, support and mentoring of birth parents. The program's sole goal is the timely and safe reunification of children and their families. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with fourteen participants in the PIP program. Both mentors and mentees were interviewed.

Another purpose of this study was to see how San Bernardino County's reentry trends fit in to the rest of the state of California. This study examined the relationship between kinship support services and placement outcomes using secondary data collected by Chang and Liles (2004) in the Counties of San Bernardino and Riverside. This study aimed at assessing kinship care placement outcomes by reviewing the characteristics of kin caregivers and their dependent children, types of financial support and services received, and contact with social workers. This study sample included 130 kinship caregivers and 291 dependent children from the original study (Chang & Liles, 2007).

Children's Asthma: Relationship Between Parental Education And Frequency Of Emergency Room Visits, Victorine Natalie Brewer-Benjamin

Examines the relationship between parental education on asthma and the frequency of emergency room visits with their children for asthma incidences. The research was conducted at an acute care hospital in Southern California using a sample of 32 parents. Data was collected using a self-administered survey questionnaire employing a quantitative research design and chi-square test. Results indicate that although parents found education beneficial in controlling their child's asthma, there was no significant correlation between education and frequency of hospitalization and emergency room visits.

A questionaire was developed and given to post-adoptive parents with the results to be used as a guide to examine what services need to be provided in the pre-adoptive process for parents who are adopting children that are coming from foster homes. Sexual minority youth are coming out about their same-sex attractions earlier in recent years. Such youth and their families may experience a range of potential problems and concerns, suggesting that the child welfare system may need to do more to respond to the unique needs of this population. By employing a qualitative research design, this study, using face-to-face interviews with ten child welfare workers, examined child welfare agencies' ability to adequately render services to sexual minority youth and their families.

This constructivist study examined the perceptions that an interdisciplinary team has about themselves in the work setting and during fieldwork interactions while working with client families. Twelve staff members of a program that provides supportive services for the families of severely handicapped children responded to a bank of fifteen questions in an effort to examine the relationship between team members perceptions of their roles and how those perceptions affect their job performance and satisfaction.
