The purpose of this project is to address the needs of my community. Specifically, it addresses the need that homeless people in Toledo have for winter apparel. I decided to fill this need through hand knitted items; this paper details the organization of the collection and distribution process of said items. It also describes the various problems I encountered when completing my project, most notably the disinterest of those I reached out to, and my attempts to overcome these issues. Mothers with children represent a growing segment of the homeless population. The American Psychological Association (APA) responded to the problem by initiating a task force in 2009 calling psychologists to step forward and enhance the treatment and services available for this population. As the debate intensifies regarding developing remedies to meet the needs of America’s homeless, one solution is for governmental agencies to collaborate with and employ organizations from the nonprofit sector to assist with the needs of the homeless population. Included in the nonprofit sector, faith-based organizations (FBOs) have historically been a source of debate and contention in terms of collaborations with the government. However, Presidents Reagan, George H. Bush, Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama have embraced the idea of including FBOs in the pool of service providers offering human services.
