As the myriad of complex circumstances surrounding incarceration and foster care debilitate the parent-child relationship, the likelihood of legal severance between an incarcerated parent and their child increases. Despite the nation’s mounting prison population over the last three decades, the growing interaction between the prison and foster care populations has received minimal attention in the literature. To date, the influence of the statutory grounds for involuntary termination of parental rights on the legal severance between incarcerated parents and their children has been largely ignored. Child sexual abuse has gained significant attention from the medical, legal and social research communities over the last couple decades. Developed in the 1980s, Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) have been noted as one of the leading developments in combating child sexual abuse. Child Advocacy Centers bring together multi-disciplinary teams in a child friendly environment to improve resources for abused children and their families as well as aid in prosecution. The majority of states across the country have adopted aggressive legislation and funding initiatives to aid in protecting this vulnerable population. San Bernardino Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) is a community-based program created to serve San Bernardino County adults with serious mental illness, who have also had repeated contacts with the criminal justice system as a result of their mental illness. Finding a balance of how mental health providers and the criminal justice system can work together to design effective treatment plans for these clients is essential in helping them accomplish this. This research evaluated the effectiveness of services from the FACT program.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effective components of the Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy: Violence Intervention, and Prevention program. It is found that an effective violence intervention program can help reduce the violent crime rates among juveniles in San Bernardino County.
