The purpose of this was designed to confirm the hypothesis that depression is prevalent among nursing home residents. Elder depression is a huge problem in society, especially as the older population continues to grow at an alarming rate. This study investigated the correlations between demographic information and item responses.

The purpose of this study was to develop and implement a process by which nursing home seniors could identify and describe feelings of autonomy. This study assumed that seniors themselves are in the best position to describe their perceptions of autonomy and the factors that contributed to those perceptions.

This study confirms that depression is highly prevalent in nursing homes. In addition, this study reveals incongruency between depression rates and recognition rates of depression in the nursing home environment.
