Refugees comprise a very niche subset of the U.S. population who often require immense guidance and assistance throughout their transition from life in refugee camps abroad to life in the United States of America. Whether their needs are primarily physical, emotional, financial, educational, or some combination of these, Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services in Cleveland, Ohio helps bridge existing gaps and aids newcomers in meeting these needs. The population served by this office includes refugees, asylees, Special Immigrant Visa holders, and immigrants of all ages, socioeconomic statuses, and medical needs in the greater Cleveland area. A large body of assessment literature suggests that college students who are immigrants face a variety of barriers that affect their academic performance and mental health. Such barriers consist of social, economic, language, mental health, and the Covid-19 pandemic. Each obstacle intersects with the student’s immigration status. This paper discusses how these barriers affect the mental health of students who are immigrants and how resources on college campuses can provide aid to these students. Background: Increasingly, social justice is being considered as a key factor associated with health outcome. In addition, there is growing interest in exploring perception of discrimination in healthcare settings. This study explored perceptions of social justice, health care discrimination, health care status and utilization of healthcare resources. The investigators predict a significant association between the level of social justice awareness and healthcare utilization based on the hypothesis that those who are cognizant of social inequities are more likely to be informed self-advocates in healthcare settings.

The Age-Friendly University (AFU) Initiative was launched in 2012 at Dublin University, and became an international group of institutions of higher education who have committed themselves to becoming more age-inclusive in their program and policies. The University of Rhode Island became part of the AFU Initiative in 2018. As a Communicative Disorders major seeking to help older adults, I became inspired to help the AFU initiative through the following project.This project had four main tasks. Music’s depth is easy to overlook during casual listening. We often listen to a song without fully considering its meaning, implications, purpose, or the effect that it may have on its listeners. Hip-hop and rap have been and continue to be hotly contested for what critics proclaim to be a “promotion” or portrayal of a message and lifestyle that is harmful to a peaceful and orderly society.
