Vehicle Classification By Estimation Of The Direction Angle In A Mixed Traffic Flow, Nguyen Viet Hung, Nguyen Hoang Dung, Le Chung Tran, Thang Manh Hoang, Nguyen Tien Dzung

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The application of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is very important in developing societies nowadays. Vehicle monitoring is one of the primary tasks of ITS, where vehicles are classified by lanes for traffic management, especially in case of a mixed flow of motorcycles and other automobiles in the transport system of Vietnam. This paper proposes a new approach in vehicle classification, which is based on evaluation of the direction angle of the first primary axis of each coming vehicle detected in the captured video sequence and map into the predetermined database to mark it as motorcycle or automobiles instead of consideration …

Net Section Tension Capacity Of Equal Angle Braces Bolted At Different Legs, Lip H. Teh, Benoit Gilbert Jan 2014

Net Section Tension Capacity Of Equal Angle Braces Bolted At Different Legs, Lip H. Teh, Benoit Gilbert

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper points out that, in practice, the two connected ends of an angle brace or bracket may be bolted at different legs due to constructional constraints. However, no design equation for determining the net section tension capacity of such a connection exists, and neither do published laboratory test results. This paper presents a series of laboratory tensile test results involving equal angle braces bolted at different legs, with legs ranging from 50 to 75mm and tension distances ranging from 100 to 300mm. The specimens were composed of 3.0-mm G450 sheet steel, which is among those that have the lowest …

Net Section Tension Capacity Of Cold-Reduced Sheet Steel Angle Braces Bolted At One Leg, Lip H. Teh, Benoit P. Gilbert Jan 2013

Net Section Tension Capacity Of Cold-Reduced Sheet Steel Angle Braces Bolted At One Leg, Lip H. Teh, Benoit P. Gilbert

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper examines the accuracy of equations specified by the North American and Australasian steel structures codes for determining the net section tension capacity of a cold-formed steel angle brace bolted at one leg. The configurations tested in the laboratory include single equal angle, single unequal angle bolted at the wider leg, single unequal angle bolted at the narrow leg, double angles, and alternate angles. The steel materials used in the experiment are among those with the lowest ductility for which nominal tensile strength is permitted by cold-formed steel design codes to be fully utilized in structural design calculations. Based …

Investigation On Welding Arc Interruptions In The Presence Of Magnetic Fields: Arc Length, Torch Angle And Current Pulsing Frequency Influence, Ruham Pablo Reis, Americo Scotti, John Norrish, Dominic Cuiuri Jan 2012

Investigation On Welding Arc Interruptions In The Presence Of Magnetic Fields: Arc Length, Torch Angle And Current Pulsing Frequency Influence, Ruham Pablo Reis, Americo Scotti, John Norrish, Dominic Cuiuri

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Arc interruptions have been observed in tandem pulsed gas metal arc welding (GMAW). This fact, which is likely related to magnetic interaction between the arcs, motivated previous study concerning the influence of the welding current on this phenomenon. In order to promote further understanding, this paper investigates the effects of arc length, torch angle, and high-frequency current pulsing on the arc resistance to extinction. To mimic the situation found in tandem GMAW (magnetic field induced by one arc acting on the other arc), external magnetic fields were applied to gas tungsten arc welding arcs. It was verified that short arc …

Numerical Investigation Of The Angle Of Repose Of Monosized Spheres, Y C. Zhou, B H. Xu, Aibing Yu, Paul Zulli Jan 2001

Numerical Investigation Of The Angle Of Repose Of Monosized Spheres, Y C. Zhou, B H. Xu, Aibing Yu, Paul Zulli

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper presents a numerical study of the angle of repose, a most important macroscopic parameter in characterizing granular materials, by means of a modified distinct element method. Emphasis is given to the effect of variables related to factors such as particle characteristics, material properties, and geometrical constraints. The results show that sliding and rolling frictions are the primary reasons for the formation of a sandpile; particle size and container thickness significantly influence the angle of repose; and the angle of repose is not so sensitive to density, Poisson's ratio, damping coefficient, and Young's modulus. Increasing rolling friction coefficient or …
