A Qualitative Look Into Repair Practices, Jumana Labib

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

This research poster is based on a working research paper which moves beyond the traditional scope of repair and examines the Right to Repair movement from a smaller, more personal lens by detailing the 6 categorical impediments as dubbed by Dr. Alissa Centivany (design, law, economic/business strategy, material asymmetry, informational asymmetry, and social impediments) have continuously inhibited repair and affected repair practices, which has consequently had larger implications (environmental, economic, social, etc.) on ourselves, our objects, and our world. The poster builds upon my research from last year (see "The Right to Repair: (Re)building a better future"), this time pulling …

Overcoming The Downsides Of Personal Internet And Cell Phone Use In The Workplace: An Exploratory Empirical Analysis, Kaustav Misra, Michael D. Stackhouse, Arundhati Bagchi Misra, Gregory Berry

Results indicate that the level of non-work-related internet and cell phone usage is significantly associated with firm productivity. Some of …

The Benner Library Web site at Olivet Nazarene University was targeted for an update and those responsible desired a systematic, efficient approach to the process. A team composed of web developers, programmers, and graphic designers accomplished the technological process, but communication between team members and stakeholders was essential. The methodical approach proved to be time-consuming, but effective.

What is the vibe going to be like at ISTAS13 with people like Marvin Minsky and Ray Kurzweil attending? What do you hope to gain from the meeting? Can we foresee a time that all glasses will be embedded with sensors? What are the implications? E.g. in the higher education sector? What about the gathering of evidence by law enforcement? What is point of eye?

Militant Segregationists, Control Freaks, And Techno-Believers, Craighton T. Hippenhammer Jan 2003

Militant Segregationists, Control Freaks, And Techno-Believers, Craighton T. Hippenhammer

Faculty Scholarship – Library Science

Twenty-first century librarians need to be comfortable with and knowledgeable in technology. Library departments that don't integrate technology into the way they operate are likely to be eliminated along with their librarians. Librarians who have special expertise, especially technical expertise, need to be free to exercise it and use it without being dragged into library tasks that do not use those skills. If librarians do not get out in front of the new technologies that deliver information, then they will be giving up their libraries to techno-businesses that will spring up to fill the information gap. Librarians must retain or …
