Resilience And Sustainability In The Management Of Landslides, Phillip N. Flentje, Robin N. Chowdhury Jan 2018

Resilience And Sustainability In The Management Of Landslides, Phillip N. Flentje, Robin N. Chowdhury

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

There are many regions worldwide which are susceptible to landslides, which cause loss of life and adverse impacts to infrastructure, environment and communities. Landslides are often triggered by exceptional rainfall and large-magnitude earthquakes. A range of strategies and methods have been developed to mitigate the occurrence of landslides and to reduce their impact, including risk to human safety. The adopted approaches and systems must be sustainable and resilient in relation to the communities that are at risk. This paper refers to an Australian regional case study of urban landslide management in the Wollongong region, New South Wales. The research carried …

Groundwater plays a vital role in the arid inland river basins, in which the groundwater management is critical to the sustainable development of area economy and ecology. Traditional sustainable management approaches are to analyze different scenarios subject to assumptions or to construct simulation–optimization models to obtain optimal strategy. However, groundwater system is time-varying due to exogenous inputs. In this sense, the groundwater management based on static data is relatively outdated. As part of the Heihe River Basin (HRB), which is a typical arid river basin in Northwestern China, the Daman irrigation district was selected as the study area in this …

A System Model For Personalized Medication Management (Mymediman)-The Consumers' Point Of View, Elena Vlahu-Gjorgievska, Khin Than Win, Willy Susilo Jan 2018

A System Model For Personalized Medication Management (Mymediman)-The Consumers' Point Of View, Elena Vlahu-Gjorgievska, Khin Than Win, Willy Susilo

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

In this paper, we propose a design for a personalized medication management system model MyMediMan that provides medication information for different stakeholders. The focus of the paper is on the system's features and personalized information provided for the consumers as primary users of the proposed solution. The presented design introduces the consumers to different aspects of the medications they take and their overall health condition. The personalized information should increase the consumers' awareness about the positive benefits of taking the medications as well as the consequences that particular medication can have on their health condition. By obtaining this information, the …
