Labuan Bajo is an emerging coastal tourism destination in Indonesia, which is also part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Komodo Biosphere Reserve located in the East Nusa Tenggara region. Recent tourism developments have transformed Labuan Bajo from a rural area into an urban area, and significant land use changes have followed. This study aims to measure the performance of tour guides serving visitors and identify the obstacles that exist in the implementation of tour guide activities at the TMII West Sumatra Pavilion. The research method used is descriptive qualitative by means of interviews. observation, and literature study. The results show that the performance of the tour guide in serving visitors is still lacking in terms of discipline, appearance and suitability of working hours, so it can be concluded that the performance of the tour guide does not meet the requirements in the context of excellent service. This paper reveals a strategic management case of rural tourism development based on tourism plan in Wanayasa, Purwakarta, Jawa Barat. Research was conducted in August 2015 with qualitative approaches i.e. interview and focus group discussion.
