La Vida Es Un Conflicto, Pero Hay Que Llevar Soluciones: La Resolución De Conflicto En Comunidades Rurales De San Ramón Nicaragua A Través De Facilitadores Judiciales Rurales Y Mediación, Marlee Raible
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
In rural parts of Nicaragua historically there has not been a lot of access to the justice system. Conflicts have been going unresolved for years leading to a high amount of violence as people take justice into their own hands. The recent implementation of the Rural Judicial Facilitators Program (RJFP) is an effort to provide access to justice directly in rural communities. These facilitators are trained to use mediation as their principal method to resolve conflict.
This study exposes perceptions of mediation and the RJFP from community members, facilitators, and judiciaries. It discusses the key role of the facilitator in …
Number 3 - Mainstreaming Gender In Mediation Practice, Adeyinka Bruce Omotunde
Number 3 - Mainstreaming Gender In Mediation Practice, Adeyinka Bruce Omotunde
Peace and Conflict Management Working Papers Series
Cultural difference associated with being male or female can be rich and interesting, and can generate excitement that continually change the nature of human relations. In this respect, African culture is dynamic in the exploration of gender difference/similarities, roles, and stereotypes. The dynamism can be a source of great confusion and conflict. In general, gender debates on the extent to which men and women are similar/different cut across cultures and the conversation is on-going. Similarly, research is strong on the differences between men and women as third party interveners, and how disputants are different on gender styles and standards of …
A Phenomenological Study Of Notable Family Mediators: An Examination Of Family Mediator Effectiveness, Paula Bell
A Phenomenological Study Of Notable Family Mediators: An Examination Of Family Mediator Effectiveness, Paula Bell
Department of Conflict Resolution Studies Theses and Dissertations
This study defined family mediator effectiveness as ‘having a lasting positive impact on parties after mediation has concluded’. The purpose of this research was to uncover the nuances that give some family mediators effectiveness. This study used Husserl’s transcendental phenomenology as presented in the book, Idea: General introduction to pure phenomenology (Husserl 1962/1913). Since this was a phenomenological study, advanced family mediators shared their lived experience to provide valuable information. Participants for this study were selected for their family mediation experience. A group of 18 advanced family mediators who had at least 15 years of experience and at least 75 …
The Mediating Role Of Payout In The Relationship Between Private Foundations And Grantee Organizations' Financial Health, Angie Kim
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Although private foundations are assumed to be beneficial, their impact on grantee organizations is not well understood. This quantitative research explored how private, nonoperating foundations influence grantees' financial capacity to pursue their missions. Principal-agent theory was applied to rationalize foundations' social good purpose, along with subsidy theory of public charities' need for capital accumulation, thus comprising a unique framework for identifying pathways of relationships amongst influencer variables of foundations' operating characteristics; the outcome of grantees' months of unrestricted, liquid net assets (MULNA); and the mediator of foundations' payout rate. Multiple regression and indirect effects analyses of data on 612 cases …
The Burqa Ban In France And Its Potential Implications On Islamic Terrorism, Ifeanyi Valentine Madu
The Burqa Ban In France And Its Potential Implications On Islamic Terrorism, Ifeanyi Valentine Madu
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Islamic terrorism has become a global problem which has resulted in human, social, political, and economic costs. Many Islamic terrorist organizations have focused their attacks on the West and its interests. They justify these acts by making reference to policies of the West, which they believe are inimical to Islam. France, a Western country, recently introduced a law which bans the Islamic face veil (the burqa) in public places in the country. This study examined the implications of this law. The research question focused on the perceived relationship between this law and increased acts of Islamic terrorism. The theoretical construct …
Lessons From The Kerry Peace Initiative And The Need For A Constructive Approach, Amira Schiff
Lessons From The Kerry Peace Initiative And The Need For A Constructive Approach, Amira Schiff
Peace and Conflict Studies
The failure of the most recent peace efforts in the Israeli Palestinian conflict, by Secretary of State Kerry, followed by the Palestinians’ decision to pursue the unilateral track, underlines the need to examine the factors that led to this failure and to draw lessons that perhaps will provide a better understanding of what is possible to achieve in a future negotiation. The following analysis indicates that the failure of the process can be attributed to structural factors, substantive factors and the third party’s conduct, including setting a goal that was unrealistic, asymmetrical conduct and a lack of understanding of the …
