Intimate partner violence (IPV) is one of the most pressing and consequential social problems facing the United States. The current response to IPV in the U.S. is most often a form of tertiary prevention, targeted at individuals directly responsible for (referred to here as "justice involved individuals" or JIIs) and harmed by IPV (referred to here as "survivors"). U.S. institutional responses to IPV are implemented through the criminal justice system.
