The Effects Of Overt And Covert Observation On The Clinical Behavior Emitted By Untrained Clinicians, Carol L.K. Middleton
The Effects Of Overt And Covert Observation On The Clinical Behavior Emitted By Untrained Clinicians, Carol L.K. Middleton
Dissertations and Theses
This study examined the effects overt and covert observation of live clinical sessions have on the number of social/ neutral verbal behaviors emitted by untrained speech clinicians and their respective clients enrolled Summer Term, 1980, in the Articulation and Language Clinic at Portland State University, Speech and Hearing Sciences. The Boone-Prescott Interactional analysis System (Boone and Prescott, 1972), a numerically coded system, was used to record clinician-client interactions. Data were obtained for a randomly selected five minute period from each of forty clinical sessions.

Relationship Between Creativity, Intelligence, And Sex Role Attitudes In College Students, Deborah D. Roman
Relationship Between Creativity, Intelligence, And Sex Role Attitudes In College Students, Deborah D. Roman
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
During the late 50's and early 60's the topic of creativity gained popularity among the scientific community, resulting in a proliferation of research on creativity. This increase in popularity led to the development of numerous test batteries claiming to measure creativity. These included batteries by Wallach and Kogan, Guilford, and Torrance, Although these researchers differ somewhat in their definitions of creativity, all of these tests tend to measure divergent thinking (requiring the generation of unique new ideas by synthesizing and reorganizing the available information) as opposed to convergent thinking (requiring knowledge, memory, and recognition). The development of objective tests of …
The Upstream Approach In The Employee Assistance Program Concept, Raymond M. Thornton
The Upstream Approach In The Employee Assistance Program Concept, Raymond M. Thornton
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The employee assistance program (EAP) concept in industry is defined and examined in this paper. Stress is defined and its impact on the individual and the organization is examined. The development of a preventative model of an EAP which utilizes stress management techniques to prevent human suffering and lost company time is discussed. One of the main purposes of this research report is to propose that individuals with "Type A" behavior patterns who are taught stress management techniques will have significantly lower scores on physiological measures, stress measures, role conflict and role ambiguity measures than those Type A individuals who …
Perceptual-Expectancy Style (Pes) And Pretreatment Adjustment : A Study Of Subtypes Among Male Alcohol Abusers, Jonathan H. Berns
Perceptual-Expectancy Style (Pes) And Pretreatment Adjustment : A Study Of Subtypes Among Male Alcohol Abusers, Jonathan H. Berns
Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects
The purpose of this study was to explore the possibilties of subtyping inpatient alcohol abusers using three personality constructs: locus of control (LOC), state dependence-state independence (SD-SI), and perceptual expectancy style (PES). PES is formed by an interaction of LOC (measured by I-E) and SD-SI (measured by GEFT); congruent (I-SI and E-SD) and incongruent (E-SI and I-SD) styles result.;A population of male, active-duty military personnel was sampled. Ss evaluated their own level of adjustment using SAS-SR and, when possible, were evaluated by a significant other using KAS-R(,1-3).;It was hypothesized that the independent measures would define subtypes which would be reflected …
The Impact Of Live Supervision On The Family Therapist's Level Of Immediacy, Anxiety, Responsiveness, And Genuineness, John L. Bistline
The Impact Of Live Supervision On The Family Therapist's Level Of Immediacy, Anxiety, Responsiveness, And Genuineness, John L. Bistline
Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects
The effects of live supervision via telephone on therapists was explored. Three supervisors experienced in live supervision were each asked to supervise live, two family therapists until they had each made a minimum of three phone interventions per therapist. The therapists' behavior two minutes immediately before the interventions and two minutes immediately after the phone interventions were then rated by judges using nonverbal and scale measures. Therapists' behavior were rated on the following factors: anxiety, responsiveness, immediacy, and genuineness. The results did not indicate any significant differences between therapist's behavior before and after phone interventions, and only modest differences in …
Locus-Of-Control In An Interactionist Approach To Behavior, Christopher Jacob Reiss
Locus-Of-Control In An Interactionist Approach To Behavior, Christopher Jacob Reiss
Theses and Dissertations
The impetus for this empirical study is: 1) to provide further construct validity for the I-E scale; and 2) to advance the locus-of-control construct as an important concept in the growing theoretical model of interactionism. The main models in personality psychology are compared and contrasted with interactionism.
The literature on locus-of-control, implicating its importance for understanding the interactionist perspective, is reviewed. Because anxiety and anagram tasks are utilized as person and situation variables in the present study they also are reviewed prior to stating specific hypotheses. 2 The major hypotheses are: 1) that the state anxiety of subjects with scores …
Validation Of The Tactual Performance Test As An Organicity Screening Device, Stephen C. Lippold
Validation Of The Tactual Performance Test As An Organicity Screening Device, Stephen C. Lippold
Masters Theses
Organicity screening devices are those psychometric tests used to detect brain dysfunction during the initial assessment. The characteristics of such tests were listed and ones currently being used were reviewed. The review concentrated on the validity and clinical utility of these organicity tests. From the review it was concluded that the validity has not been thoroughly established, partially because weak criteria have been used. It was also concluded that current screening tests have questionable clinical utility, since an inordinant number of organically impaired people are not detected by the tests. The concept of organicity was discussed, and the Tactual Performance …
