Acceptability And Feasibility Of Telehealth Delivered Written Exposure Therapy With College Students, Maya Anais Krek

Full and subthreshold presentations of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are both functionally impairing and chronic. Therefore, development of feasible and acceptable treatments for both is imperative. Written Exposure Therapy (WET), a brief five-session in-person PTSD treatment, has the potential to be successfully administered accessibly via a telehealth format due to minimal therapist contact and short duration of treatment. This study explored the feasibility and acceptability of WET delivered via a telehealth format to college students experiencing posttraumatic stress symptoms.

Experiences of racial discrimination can also increase one’s risk for developing PTSD by eliciting chronic states of hypervigilance, which impair essential resting-state processes related to fear extinction. Generalized arousal can amplify emotional responses to a range of target stimuli, but it is not yet known whether perceiver characteristics moderate the effects of arousal as target characteristics do. This study investigated the effects of residual arousal from exercise on psychological and physiological reactivity to an active coping task, when individual appraisals of the task differed. This study seeks to explain observed gender differences in PTSD risk and protective factors and subsequent PTSD symptoms by use of a Masculine Heuristic moderator variable. Drawing from heuristic and gender role theories, this study utilizes a sample of male and female trauma survivors to examine the interaction between a Masculine Heuristic style and trauma exposure in the development of PTSD symptoms. Structural Equation Modeling and moderation analysis were used to explore these constructs. Results are discussed and incorporated into current literature, while limitations of the current study and suggestions for future research are explored.

Victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetration suffer from lasting deleterious impacts of trauma. Although various risk factors of IPV have been explored, fewer studies have focused on executive functioning as potential risk factors for IPV perpetration. Response inhibition is a form of cognitive control which serves to stop the initiation of a maladaptive action/response. Within the context of IPV, adaptive response inhibition may inhibit utilizing aggression as a conflict strategy. Bi+ individuals are at an elevated risk of sexual victimization compared to other sexual minorities. Hazardous alcohol use and minority stress are two factors proposed to contribute to increased rates of sexual victimization among bi+ individuals. The present study investigated the roles of distal and proximal minority stress, general life stress, negative affect, and hazardous alcohol use as predictors of sexual victimization in a sample of 192 bi+ young adults. Results indicated that experiences of anti-bisexual discrimination were associated with an increased likelihood of experiencing past year rape victimization. Numerous studies have found alcohol use to temporally precede and increase the risk for IPV perpetration.
